I also love that Sonlight tends to force us outside of our comfort zone, or the books we would reach for first. My family had a tradition of chanting "read another chapter! read another chapter!" with so many read alouds when I was growing up.
@MommaonMission3 жыл бұрын
Haha! My boys are always begging for more chapters despite my aching throat from reading so long!

I really enjoyed using sonlight as a kid

YES! As far as "lumping kids together"...we pretty much always did one core as a family, up until around high school level, but at that point, the kids just do a Sonlight core on their own.

Yes! That’s kind of what our plan is!

I grew up with Sonlight 1st grade -12th and loved it! Not only did I feel prepared enough for college courses, I have so many fond memories of staying up late as a family because we had to know the end to a book. It is a great curriculum

I love that Sonlight covers other cultures and beliefs. I want my kids to experience that, too. Yay! I’m glad it’s fun!!!

Yes, I like exposing them to all of those things in the safety of our home where we can distinguish truth from false beliefs.

I can definitely see why it would be super helpful for it to span a lot of grades if you are teaching multiple kiddos :-) good review.

We love Sonlight so far. I did it kind of weird...I got HBL B and started the whole thing last August, then life got a little crazy so we did just the basics for late October-December. We picked back up with the read alouds and Bible devotional, but will start back up with the History part this coming Fall. I plan on getting the full package for level C the following year and actually doing the whole thing in one year like normal. 🤪 That’s the best part of homeschooling though, you can do it however you want. 👍🏻

Yes, homeschooling is so conducive to life's crazy ways!! We're carrying sonlight into the summer because we couldn't get it all finished "in time" for summer. But we still are loving it so much!

Yes I love that it is not full of busy work

We used Bookshark (Sonlight’s sister company) History level E with my 6th and 4th grader this year and we loved it!! We will be doing G together this fall. I’m excited for all the books we will be reading.

I've heard great things about Bookshark too!

I just found core b for 75 bucks! It's only missing a couple books! I'm so excited I have been wanting to try it for about a year but the cost 😫 and my son isn't super into reading...and I am a slow reader. BUT it keeps coming up and then this so I feel like it is the perfect opportunity to try and not feel remorse if it doesn't work. And your video just made me feel even better about my choice! Thanks for doing what u do! God bless!
@MommaonMission2 жыл бұрын
Oh that's so great!! I usually have to buy my core used then piece together all the books. I save a lot of money that way but it is VERY time consuming! So to have it almost all there for $75 is amazing! I hope you love it!
@andreaashley26382 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Me too. I have been on the sonlight website daily considering which books I need to buy. Like looking for Christmas presents 🤣 so exciting!

I haven't tried Sonlight yet because it seems SO overwhelming. But we did just start MFW and we realized we LOVE doing read aloud as a family! It has been a game changer. I do want to look into Sonlight a bit more though.
@MommaonMission3 жыл бұрын
I thought it would be a lot more complicated than it was. But if you put as many ages into one core as possible, it’s not hard at all!

We enjoyed it also and are part way through HBL C. Now trying to decide if we will do D or D+E next year.

I love how sonlight looks but also think I will lean more classical. Can you explain how you mesh the two?
@MommaonMission3 жыл бұрын
I only use Sonlight for their core, which is history, Bible, and literature. For all other language arts, I use a classical curriculum.
@angelarichardson9762 Жыл бұрын
I’m curious how you get the curriculum without having to buy the books from them.
@MommaonMission Жыл бұрын
I usually buy the guide from them unless I find it used at our local used curriculum shop. But then I buy the books required from Thriftbooks or Abebooks

We onli use worksheets wen needed!!! We love using books to teach. I’d rather be the one to expose my kids to different books than uncool peers as I have pre teens. We don’t want to live in a bubble even tho my son and my daughter would like to. We love rabbit trails. We haven’t used a literature based curriculum but I may have as a kid. I remember using books but I can’t remember if it was a curriculum.

Yes, I love reading the books with them!!
