When I was a kid on the farm, we used my grandfathers manure spreader and it was adapted from a horse drawn system. It originally had steel wheels, but my dad changed it over to rubber. I can remember the tongue was a big block of wood with a couple of iorn straps for the pin. No joke! The first tractor I drove in 1956 was a Farmall F-12. Absolutely!

Congratulations on the new spreader....my husband has a similar one in his collection of farm machinery models....many John Deere tractors, combines and stuff. I ve even bought a black angus model for his mini farm 😉 He grew up on a farm in central Iowa, but unfortunately his family lost the entire farm in the mid 80s due to a very bad drought 😥 They also raised black angus and grew corn....Lately i can tell how much he s missing the farmlife....he is spending his sundays watching farmvideos like yours, thats how i got to know your channel too And we both love it very much Keep up the good work 👍🏼

Congrats on the new spreader. The box on the back to scrape up the poop seems to work really well if things are a bit frozen. The dairy farmer up in Canada uses an old huge wheel to move all the softer watery poop. They make great water holes. Why not wet scrapers. I know u have enough poop to try it.

Our spreaders were ground driven and to put them in gear you had to reach behind from the tractor and move levers. As kids we couldnt reach the levers from the seat so while the tractor was moving we swung around to one foot on the draw bar to move the levers.

Your channel is just the best real farming channel with two dam entertaining comedians !!!! The big grain farming channels with the all to often attempt at bad reality show over produced self promotion I find hard to watch. They constantly attempt humor and they are just NOT funny. I watch u-tube agricultural channels because I grew up on a farm in Iowa and still have interest in how farming is done in 2020. Manure is part of farming , relying on the market price of two grain prices year in year out is 2020 farming for many I guess.

I remember when I was in my teens and we had a Case 75 bushel ground drive spreader. We had a dairy herd and we had always loaded it with manure forks and shovels. Then one year we had a bad winter and ended up with a big manure pile. That spring we borrowed my Uncles tractor with a loader on it. Being a teenager I loaded as much as I could on the little Case spreader. I didn't get very far on the first couple of loads. Because the apron chain broke and I had to fork almost everything off and then fix the chain. My hands smelled like manure for almost a week. I'm 75 now and remember that like it was yesterday.

Rangoon here; When your loading manure do you pick up much dirt? Does it lower the floor over time? Or is SD BLACK DIRT rise up as you have 20 ft of topsoil. Or do you use plain sand by the truck loads once in a while to keep floor up. Tech stuff right!
@briansonne8144 жыл бұрын
yes bringing back in clay is necessary over time
@sherrywhite449064 жыл бұрын
@@briansonne814 The Man himself! Thanks for quick response and infact an answer at all in these times. Do you get the clay off your farm or from retail? Cole, you, Jeff & Ellie do a great job representing the FAMILY Farm. Continued generational success. I love your stories Brian. I'm 73 and in H.S. cleaned dairy barns with a pitchfork for $1 an hr. Anyway one day after cleaning calf pens---better known as a wall, bindertwine and tied calf---I took the load in a JD pull type spreader driven by spreader wheels and lever to engage down the road and unloaded in field. I thought I'd help farmer clean the blades off from dried manure & bindertwine by engaging the lever at road speed. Now the trusty AC WD-45 gas helped clean those paddles off great. At least half flew OFF the spreader, one within 5 ft. me. Of course I did the Lincoln thing and LIED to the farmer stating the spreader popped into gear when we hit a pothole on road.
