You've got the same arrangement with your dad that I had with mine when I was in high school. I had a small row crop patch attached to a bigger field that belonged him. The first year I got paid for that was either 1969 or 70 and the first check I got was for $1600. He handed me that check and said that was more money than he made the year I was born. The first thing I bought was a beer for the two of us. Mine was of the root variety though!

The next time you're whining about the cost of beef, it's time to recognize Cole earned a whopping $88 a day and the work doesn't look easy. The cost of food has nothing to do with the farmer they are busting their humps 365 days a year. Time to focus on those who are driving costs through the roof and support those who are growing it. This channel has given me a new appreciation for the American Farmer. In the words of Brian Sonne, "That's all I have to say about that".

ROFL. Could you show your ignorance anymore? Ranchers work for themselves. What raises the profits is supply and demand. So tell your dorky friends, tell your dorky neighbors, tell your dorky relatives to stop whining about slaughter houses and meany farmers ... to shut up and eat beef. Only way ranchers would make more money.

Your videos bring me happiness and sadness. Happy to see how you two work so well together and your agreement. Sad because I worked for 25 years building my dad's 4 million dollar operation by the hour with him claiming I was working for my future but in the end my two sisters got every penny and I got nothing, He claimed the farm could not support two families and I had to leave because I could not pay my insurance, heating and groceries and other bills on my $500 a month income. He went from milk 70 head of dairy year around and farming 1200 acres to selling the cows and dropping to 600 acres of the land he owned after I left. One of those family things that I had two deaths in one year. My dad's death and the day the will was read and I was intentionally omitted completely from the will. Even with me leaving my dad and mom and I always got along and not any idea it would go that way it did. The two sisters never ever had a thing to do with the farm. I guess greed has no boundaries. Thanks for your great videos Cole and I hope my wife and I can drive the 4-5 hours this summer to meet you guys. Thanks again. Any RV parks in your area?

That was darned impressive. Brian was on the phone last fall buying cattle because you had enough feed for more. He was right. And then to load three semis full, steers and heifers looking good and ready for finishing, means applause for Jeff, Brian, and Cole. Drone footage was great, too, showing how you handle that number of cattle. A top notch video.

Drone shots of the cattle loading were great, Cole. I drove a cattle liner once about 100 miles while the real driver caught some Zs. Pay days don't come around that often for the farmer, and when they do, it's best not to try to work the number back to an hourly wage. It's a long term proposition, for sure. So glad there are young men still willing to put on their boots every morning and keep the family farms going. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for a great video on sale day. Was most interesting. Thanks for doing the drone and music on sale day when the trucks come. To me, when the big haulers come it is time to benefit from a lot of hard work. Nice haulers you had come. Good equipment. Bad on the day our livestock were hauled by straight truck and can remember when the new trailers of today came out we thought that was first class. I would always ride to the sale barn with the last truck, was a big deal for me. I thought the sale barn gave Sonne Farms some real good words as the sale started. Lived in Mitchell for a year and have been to the sale barn there many times. Good one. I am super pleased that Brian and Cole did well at the sale barn. You both are most deserving for your efforts at having such excellent livestock for sale. People in the area know that name. Congratulations to both of you!!!!!’ Cole glad you did well. Do appreciate you seeing a good income off your herd. Know you have that wedding coming up, hang in there. You and your dad have an outstanding setup the way you work your income and working with dad on the farm. Brian , my compliments to you for getting your son up on his feet and having a good arrangement on what you give Cole for his part of the farm operation. Brings back a lot of memories back in my day. I worked on two family farms and had good arrangements with both on how I was rewarded. Good to see Jeff and have him in the conversations. Hi to Jeff. Trust he did well also. Happy day for me with your video. Really pleased you both did well on the sale. You both are excellent herdsmen and pleased you were rewarded. High fives for Sonne Farms!!!! Glad you are getting rain for the crop land. Fertilizer such has went up in price-wow. Put an armed guard on that load you got/ha!!!! Good punch line for Storla Station. Trust business continues to increase all the time. Your videos make my day. So enjoyable and makes my heart glad at the wonderful relationship Cole and Brian have!!!!! Just great!!!! Guess I better be quiet before you shut me off. You both take care and be safe. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks for everything. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.

Cole, another great video! Growing up on our family dairy farm here in Missouri my parents had a similar arrangement with me concerning my cattle - they provided all of the feed & vet care for my cattle in exchange for my labor on the farm. Those cattle paid for my first car and then put me through college.

First off, Great video guys. I watch a bunch of different channels. I do have to say that I do look forward to seeing yours each time. You always have great content. You try to always keep it upbeat. I have read comments on other channels from people that do not have the smallest idea of what it takes to run an operation like yours. Myself, I do not have the experience of it, out of my pocket. Yet, have the experience of working it as a ranch/farm hand. So I know where your money goes. These comments from people saying wow love how rich you are and I see you just got a new truck or what ever. They do not see the cost of fuel, feed, seed, fertilizer, vet bills. That list just keeps going on. The days of only having one or two tractors is long gone. Yes, if you only read the amounts of checks you receive. You made a lot of money from your cattle, grain or what ever it is you are paid for. Then if they were to see what bills you paid out of those checks. They would run as far and as fast as they could away from it all. I truly respect you guys in the fact that you and your Dad, The Brian, along with Jeff keep going and going. I know Brian is proud of you for wanting, from what I see. To carry on in his shoes to keep the family business going. I want to add this last thing. Like what you did with your new loading/working pins. I would of loved having that to work cattle growing up. LOL With us, we started the day before fixing the coral so they do not jump out or go through the fence. When you work cows. Every time you do, I say you guys have it easy. LOL. Great job Cole on your channel. BTW, who is going to do the camera work at your wedding?

From an Australian perspective; I worked it out at about 362kg/animal, $1140/head Australian dollars, so $3.15/kg live weight. (I hope I got that right) Compared to the current sale yard figures here is Victoria, those same animals would sell to around twice that amount ($6-6.8/kg), perhaps more given the large number of cattle in one pen (feedlots here pay more for larger pen sizes as there are less health issues as the cattle are already socialised and thus suffer from less stress). Also the cattle are close to ideal entry weight for a feedlot job. Great video, I really enjoy watching your videos and appreciate looking at how you go about the job in your part of the world.

My wife and I watched this video right after a nice steak dinner. These steaks came from our last two cows that gave us calves every year for probably 12 years. Sweet Pea and Daisy May had good lives. Luckily I didn't have to make a living raising cattle. I was a bad farmer and over fed them. Marbled is a little of an under statement. They were 15 years old when we had them slaughtered but the beef just melts in your mouth. I love the flavor of mature beef, my wife, not so much. Thanks for what you do. We need people like you.

Congrats on the good sale. Neighbor Ned saw that check you got and wanted me to ask you to invest in his latest " can't miss get rich quick" idea. He's trying to invent a velcro system where your have velcro bands surgically implanted on your body and that way, you put the other half of the velcro on your pants and hats . You won't need a belt on your pants and your hat won't fly off either during a windstorm. He also said that they can put velcro on barstools at the Elks Club too and that way you don't fall off your stool .

It’s a good arrangement with your dad. Saves a lot of expense as compared with a hired hand. Also provides you with some income and a way for some independence.

The sun may not be always up all the time at Sonne farms but they are always on the "Sonne" side of life!!
