I'm just looking at learning to play guitar & when I see these guys it really inspires me, this is good music to me.

I saw him at the Chicago Blues Festival in 1995 - he was in a jam with Big Jack Johnson - when they did a version of Sitting on Top of the World, I do declare my brain left my head and started rising to the sky -

3:26, that sound towards the end of the song when your standing in a small town in the Delta, listening to the realist of all country music, and the sound of the deep Southland Blues. The talent here is off the charts, deep Blues at it’s finest! Lots of smiles and good feein’ of the men chillin’ and listening to Sonny Boy Nelson playing on that archtop. 🎸

We were blessed enough to get him to play at several festivals in the Clarksdale area in the late 80s early 90s. I took Willie Nicks to his home in Greenville once. I just sat back and listened to them bullshit a couple hours. Willie Nicks knew everybody and had a sharp memory in his late years. You only had to discern the truth with him.

"blues that I had so bad when my good girl quit me" "so, I could feel at home once more again" Man, the dialogue after got me right in the heart. Real stuff right there.

it's like watching a whole encyclopedia of cool riffs. Love this style of playing. Those bass lines with his thumb!

He plays with a ragtime lilt like an old time bar room piano player. Most people's guitar playing can be easily played on a piano with one hand. This would absolutely require two hands. He's playing bass, harmony, and melody simultaneously. It's an incredibly hard style to play or master.

I am fortunate to have one of his 1936 recordings on Bluebird, "Long Tall Woman", after that session he did not record again until the 60's Blues revival when he was rediscovered. Absolutely amazing video of him some 42 years after his early recording session. he passed on in 1998 . RIP.

He lived 62 years after his 1936 session. That is amazing.

there are tons of em, think of dixieland, ragtime, funk, soul, action painting, rock n roll , rockabilly, chainsaw sculpting and indeed westerns and jazz, but I think I like blues the best of em all.
