This appears to be an improvised Jazz version of "Bye Bye Bird", by Sonny Boy Williamson, which was kinescoped from his UK tour in either 1963 or 1964. At this time in his life, he was suffering from a lot of dental pain, and was drinking alcohol to deal with the pain. Sonny Boy Williamson II, seen in this kinescope footage, died in 1965. His birth date is disputed, but he stated in an interview that he was born in the 1890s. He lived a full life. Here is an important item of note. There are TWO Sonny Boy Williamsons. The original was John Lee "Sonny Boy" Williamson, who recorded in the 1930s and 1940s, and was tragically murdered in 1948. After that time, Aleck "Rice" Miller decided to use the "Sonny Boy Williamson" name to promote himself at concerts on the "Chitlin' Circuit" in African-American communities. I have listened to recordings from both music artists, and Sonny Boy Williamson II is a much better harmonica player. Sonny Boy Williamson II was 60 or 65 years of age, when was signed to a recording contract with Checker Records (a sister label to Chess Records) in the mid-1950s. Some of his best recordings, which I would like to see you react to, are "Don't Start Me To Talking", "I Don't Know", "Fattening Frogs For Snakes", "Help Me", and "Nine Below Zero".

I can tell your a blues cat Larry. Well hello from a very very young one. I’m 17 and recently got into blues very heavily because of Alan Wilson. I know all these old legendary blues cats because of him and canned heats music which liked to stay with their roots in the songs they recorded in the late 60s blues/rock n roll scene. Im sure you know what you’re talking about. I’m going to check those songs out right now. Although I’ve already heard one that you listed ;) Cheers man

1912, surprisingly, seems to be generally accepted as the year of his birth.

I've always assumed that this was a tribute to Charlie 'Bird' Parker, the great Be-bop saxophonist.

You're really going to be embarrassed when you read the title of the song. "What's he saying? I can't understand what he's saying." Love your reactions, guys.

You really lose a lot by constantly interrupting; you're not getting the full effect of the performance.

He was dealing with a lot of dental pain, which he was dealing with by drinking alcohol to kill the pain. This was just before the time of Medicare and Medicaid.
