Genius!!! 50 years agao I played with a quartet in the Paris Club "Keur Samba". Sonny Rollins walked in as a client. I told the piano player, I am not feeling well please continue to play in trio :-)

Saw him about this same time, early 80's, in Pt. Townsend, WA. When he walked out on stage, some woman yelled out, "We love you, Sonny!" and we all cheered, and it was ON! Got our money's worth that day, and then some. Sonny is truly one of a kind, and gift to the world.

He's definitely a brilliant saxophone player! One of my favorites! Some people underestimate The Colossus, he's definitely one of the best (saxophone) players that have ever played. I love his musical jokes. Got some good laughs out of his "pop goes the weasel" quotes. :D

the saxophone is the most beautiful instrument it's the voice for those who cant sing. its something that you can speak into. it amplifies your soul and when you blow into it, it seams as if you are connected to it. and when you know your instrument and play from the heart there are no mess-ups. for me every key can represents a hardship and can also represent an accomplishment. and even though I'm young, when i play from the heart i escape from the world and all its problems and sometimes i find myself crying and never wanting to let go of that feeling of true complete undeniable freedom and innocents and prosperity. "it's my high." and truly, it's my life. besides my faith this what i live for. I'm kenneth king

All that breathing and diaphragm strength and support has kept Sonny strong and contributed to his longevity, wouldn't you think? It's especially nice to see a guy with his chops honor the melody and not use this gorgeous melody as a platform to jump from and do lots of self-indulgent riffing and showing off. It's a nice humble gesture and very sincere and endearing. Kids, now, don't seem to have much awareness of great instrumentalists. They're really missing something. Thanks for this!

Thanks for this video. Roillins has a great sound. A big tone, with the solid backbone to stand like a rock and the flexibility to talk like a preacherman. But I've heard him playing more inspired, more inventive or fancy as he plays on this video; but that's ok - everything changes a bit from day to day ...

As jazz players we listen to other players and how they express themselves, Rollins has so many wonderful ideas that he plays. Oh...I have yet to see an Eric Alexander composition in a fake book by the way.

I'm sorry, but scales are not beautiful. People can teach themselves scales, but very few can create the magnificent beauty that this melodic magician produces. That is what counts. I understand that you want to learn from such a genius though, just like i do to.
