I was privileged to see Sonny in the UK many years ago. Just in a quartet, so it was basically all Sonny all night. What I remember most was his encore - 20 minutes playing every song with goodbye in the title you can imagine, never repeated a phrase. He must have had the sax on his face for 15 minutes straight but never ran out of new ideas. What an extraordinary musician.

He was famous for that kind of thing. There was a contest on his website a few years back to see who could identify all the quotes in a cadenza.
