Since I'm a green woodworker I didn't do much blacksmithing yet. Although I hope to start blacksmithing and be able to forge my own tools together with a friend of mine who has a coal forge. Thx alot for the great videos and inspiration Nils! I hope to visit Sweden next summer to be able to visit other craftspeople and maybe have time to follow some courses. Keep up the great work!

I'm living not too far away from you and I'd love to come by and visit your shop some day. I hope that I eventually have enough skill to take a one-on-one course with you and be able to get the most out of it.

I am a retired tool and die guy who lost everything when my brother took me to court. Now I am rebuilding from scratch. That includes building a new shop and forge while living out my truck on some rural land. I got into forging timber frame tools as I have lots of logs but little cash. I would be blessed to get one of these hammers.

Don't sweat the beginer dude. I been at this for decades and my "daily driver" hammer is a 900g(ish) crosspeen too. sure i got lighter one and heavier ones dependong on the work... but this type and size hammer been made on this vid is 100% the work horse of my career, cant go wrong with it from beginner to pro my dude.

HI Folks, I have watched Black Bear forge over the years and more or less revived my interest in Blacksmithing. I worked With Bob Wilson at the Grange Smithy Nr Dundee. I have used alll the skills Bob showed me as a teenager And at 75 years I feel I have reached a proficient level in Blacksmithing, It is a Skill where you are always learning. I have moved on to Making horseshoes now for the local horse owners. So thanks for the video on the Cross peen Hammer, Time to get some tool steel and have a go. Thanks for the tutorial.. Thank you for making such well edited and instructional videos. I especially appreciate videos that show that you can make things with basic tooling instead of going to the power hammer and making me feel poor. I'd love to have that hammer, almost as much as I want to make one myself! Thank you for sharing your skill and helping others start their journeys at the anvil.

That would be a brilliant hammer to own and use for its intended purpose. I’m beginning forging, I’ve welded up a coke forge last week and used a hair dryer for bellows! Works quite well actually. I got a hand me down anvil from my neighbour and it’s a beast, just need to make proper tongs and a proper hammer, that would be a brilliant hammer for a beginner! Thanks for a great video to show how the ordinary person can make brilliant things without owning a power hammer, that gives me a lot of confidence to keep swinging my old hammer for now. Thanks Nils

I love it! I recently moved, but I had been living in Cleveland where a local guy had set up a blacksmith shop where he had multiple forges and had started a sort of membership model, where you could pay to use the forge and get materials and whatnot. It was great for people who wanted to get into forging but didn't have the space. He also provided lessons and supervision. I wish I could find something like that in my new place.

Your talent never fails to amaze me. Up here on the west coast of Canada roofers use a special hammer for cedar shake instillation. It is a combo hammer hatchet. The hatchet side is sharp on two sides and multiple holes on the one side for measuring. Be a challenge for you but bet you would have fun doing it. Also it will add to your tool chest.

Thank you for sharing the making of this hammer. Your explanation of the process was easy for me to follow as a beginner. I have been using hardware store hammers up to this point, and they work ok, but this one is very nice. It would be a very welcome addition as my first forging hammer made by a fellow smith. I haven't had the courage (or skills) to attempt making one myself, but it is in my sights as I make more tooling. I really like that style of punch you used. I will try to make one soon.
