If you are going this route, wouldn't a cheap (old) cellphone be more flexible. And it has a battery built-in.

You could control the same things, and yes it has a battery but the interface and user experience would be completely different to when you are using the wall switches. I also think it would look a little weird with an old cellphone laying around. I work towards using my phone as little as possible when it comes to controlling the home. I don't like it and family members especially don't like having to pick up there phone when they enter a room. I like the thought of the users having the exact same interface whenever they need to change anything. Plus it's a super fun project to get my little NSPanel baby powered with a battery and packaged in a nice way.

No it's not in the current scope unfortunately. One thought could be to have the same approach with the NSPanel Pro but instead setting up a web page that looks kind of the same as the GUI design we have for the original NSPanel and the behavior would be the same. But right now we do not have time to do that as well.
