This video explores the prophesy made first by Malachi and later repeated by Christ to the Nephites and by resurrected John the Baptist when restoring the Aaronic Priesthood. It says that the Aaronic priesthood shall never been taken again from the earth until the sons of Levi do offer again an offering unto the Lord in righteousness. Who are the sons of Levi? Are we talking about the literal decedents or is this an adoption thing? Are we talking about the Jews or someone else? What offering will they make? When will they make it? Where will it be made. When did they make it anciently? What is the difference between the way Joseph Smith remembered what John the Baptist said versus what Oliver Cowdery remembered.
There aren't very many gospel topics that people find more confusing than this, and yet it is kind of important to understand. Christ made sure the Nephites included it in their scriptures when he visited them and it is one of the main points of the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood.
This video delves into all of this and we may find that everything we thought we knew about this subject may not be accurate.

The actual sons of Levi, the tribe of Levi have kept their lineage pure all these years and they are right now, like since 2022 began, have been practicing performing sacrifices. They have already built the alter according to proper order and are actively working to at some point, I assume soon, perform a righteous offering. So this is exciting for those of us who are paying attention to the signs of the times. :)

@charliecan my estimation of the information we have is Jews will build a temple in Jerusalem again and their sacrifices and rituals will recommence thus fulfilling prophecy. I don't know when or where exactly. What do you think?

"Wait a minute, Kevin..." lol... You're right, there is a lot here. I will try and address a couple of points I took notes on. Let me suggest how I have seen this supposed "conflict" which I think is really a matter of semantics. I think we need to not conflate, but carefully distinguish the use of some terms. I draw a distinction between the hereditary and literal Cohen "Sons of Levi" and the adopted, modern-day restoration-era Priesthood holding "Sons of Moses and Aaron" in these references. I think this distinction is important and necessary and resolves the problem. Your D&C 84 reference is about restoration Era Priesthood as Sons of Moses and Aaron. Fine, but the phrase "Sons of Levi" is not used and should not be implied as being synonymous here. This D&C verse is clearly a latter day adoptionist reference. Concerning D&C 128:24, and relaring to Malachi 3, the very beginning of the verse 24, "Behold, the great day of the Lord is at hand..." and the footnoting, makes clear this is a "Second Coming" reference to the Son's of Levi being purified and purged at his coming when He saves Jerusalem and Judah at the Olivet appearance, ( Zechariah 12+14, D&C 45) when they recognize their Messiah and can then be taught, baptized, ordained, and grafted back into the natural tame Olive Tree. The natural Sons of Levi may have the "right" to the Priesthood by heredity, but they do not and cannot "hold or exercise" that authority due to apostacy. The folks in Israel may build what ever they want or offer what ever they want, but until they are purified and refined after The Lord's return and establishment, they cannot offer an offering that will be pleasing unto The Lord (v.3). After His great and last sacrifice (Alma 34) Israel and His Church no longer required blood sacrifices. This also resolves the difference in the recollection of John the Baptist's words to Joseph and Oliver. In Joseph's understanding its a matter of timing: "until". For Oliver is a matter of necessity: the Priesthood was restored so that hereditary and ordained Sons of Levi could offer an offering in righteousness. They will be ordained and have the keys restored to them to offer an offering which will correspond to their calling and office as hereditary Sons of Levi in Judah and Jerusalem (Malachi 4:4). One should be sufficient to restore that unless The Lord desires more, consistent with Joseph Fielding Smith and Brother Joseph. The JFS reference appears to be a clear Levite requirement limited to Sons of Levi and of unspecified magnitude. That's a possible resolution to a seeming conflict. Joseph Fielding Smith was pretty sharp even before he became President of the Church. As for the Sons and Daughters of Moses and Aaron, the adopted and grafted in other branches of Israel? Our sacrifice is the broken heart and contrite spirit called humility and repentance and doing our best to walk or stumble back on the covenant path. We are of Israel, but not of Levi so our last blood sacrifice was Christ's and ours is now our hearts in accordance with your Book of Mormon references and others in the scriptures. So, I have known these references for a long time, and with a little contextual clarity, I don't find a conflict. I see a restoration of once plain and precious truths to help us be watchful for that great and glorious day of His return. In my humble opinion... Keep up the good work. I really appreciate your efforts. I don't think I would have the patience.

Many years ago I remember reading the passage about the sons of Levi and their "offering in righteousness." I remember thinking 'how odd!' But I kept that phrase in the back of my mind & one day while reading my scriptures & pondering the Spirit bore witness to me in the clearest way. The words came to my mind that "it has to do with genealogy." In my mind's eye I saw a big thick book laid on what looked like an altar. I've wondered over the years since if I was right or did I dream it up myself because in many ways the answer didn't seem to "fit. Thankyou for your research & scholarship. It's so nice to have answers that make perfect sense!

Thank you for this video. You commented that Joseph Fielding Smith's "Doctrines of Salvation" was published while he was a member of the Quorum of the Twelve and not while he was the Prophet. I just finished watching General Conference April 2022. We sustained all of the members of the Quorum of the Twelve as "Prophets, Seers, and Revelators." Was that also not the case when Joseph Fielding Smith lived? However I acknowledge that the President of the Church is the "Mouthpiece of the Lord" and speaks for the Lord to all the Church (and world).

"It makes no difference what is written or what anyone has said, if what has been said is in conflict with what the Lord has revealed, we can set it aside. My words, and the teaching of any other member of the Church, high or low, if they do not square with the revelations, we need not accept them. Let us have this matter clear. We have accepted the four standard works as the measuring yardsticks, or balances, by which we measure every man’s doctrine. You cannot accept the books written by the authorities of the Church as standards in doctrine, only in so far as they accord with the revealed word in the standard works. If Joseph Fielding Smith writes something which is out of harmony with the revelations, then every member of the Church is duty bound to reject it. If he writes that which is in perfect harmony with the revealed word of the Lord, then it should be accepted." Joseph Fielding Smith Doctrines of Salvation, 3:203-204

"All that we teach in this church ought to be couched in the scriptures. We ought to choose our texts from the scriptures, and wherever you have an illustration in the scriptures or a revelation in the Book of Mormon, use it, and do not draw from other sources where you can find it here in these books. We call these the standard Church works because they are standard. If you want to measure truth, measure it by the four standard Church works. If it is not in the standard works, you may well assume that it is speculation. It is man's own personal opinion, to put it another way; and if it contradicts what is in the scriptures, you may know by that same token that it is not true. This is the standard by which you measure all truth. But if you do not know the standards, you have no adequate measure of truth." Harold B. Lee Teachings of Harold B. Lee, p 149

Unfortunately, I wasn’t finished. It was supposed to say, READING verse 16: “Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord and that thought upon his name.” I have always recognized that Malachi was referring to binding faithful family members together as far back as we can go via temple ordinances, just as D&C 128 says.

What is really interesting about the record of genealogy that we will offer unto the Lord is that the Lord views this record as scripture. We receive so much scripture from the Lord and yet this is the one thing that we will make to give to him that is also scripture. That’s how sacred the Lord views the work for the dead.

Agree with "formula" for truth!! Sacrifice may be many things, but when The Savior say it is ended, well, it's ended!! We may sacrifice in many ways, depending on the direction of the current prophet and we covenant our all in the temple. Even the Prophet Joseph said a few things incorrectly when not under the direction of the Holy Ghost!

It doesn't hold up that we ignore doctrines taught by someone calling themselves just an "apostle" and not a prophet, this distinction isn't made in the scriptures, much of which was written by "apostles" like Paul. It's more reasonable that we look at the isolated teaching and if it conflicts look at what is more consistent with other scriptures and the context that it was written, whether it was direct from God or an opinion. That being said I greatly appreciate the video and the research breakdown

I really enjoy your videos. I appreciate your thoroughness. I want to present an alternative interpretation to Section 128:24 that might resolve the apparent conflict between some statements by the prophets. You assume that the sacrifice of the Sons of Levi is the book "worthy of all acceptation." This follows the interpretation given by Allan F Packer in his talk titled "The Book" in October 2014 General Conference. I would suggest that another way to look at it is that the book is what enables the purification of the Sons of Levi. To understand why this could be the case, we need to read the last few verses of Section 85 regarding priesthood holders whose names are not written in "the book of the law". The last verse states "Therefore, it shall be done unto them as unto the children of the priest, as will be found recorded in the second chapter and sixty-first and second verses of Ezra." This refers to the time of the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem after the Jews returned from Babylon. It was necessary to replenish the Priesthood offices. To do this, applicants had to prove that their lineal rights to the priesthood had not been polluted by marriages outside the covenant. The relevant verse from Ezra reads "These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood." It may be that the book worthy of all acceptation is needed to identify the Sons of Levi through genealogical records. As far as purification goes, you do not give any details. However, there is a known formula given in Numbers 19:1-10. It involves the killing of a "red heifer" whose burnt ashes are used in a priestly purification ceremony. The last verse describing this formula states "... it shall be unto the children of Israel, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among them, for a statute for ever." This may be too literal of an interpretation, but it would explain that there will need to be at least one ritual animal killing (not technically a sacrifice, but a necessary ritual slaying) in order to purify the Sons of Levi identified through the book worthy of all acceptation. (It is surely coincidence, but interesting to know that the Church owns the largest cow/calf operation in the country - 295,000 acres.) As for the idea that Priesthood holders are adopted into the tribe of Levi through the oath and covenant of the priesthood, I am left to wonder whether this is more symbolic rather than literal, similar to the 2,000 "sons" of Helaman. My patriarchal blessing states that I am descended from the prophets "through the loins of Ephraim". And perhaps the reference in Section 128 to the Sons of Levi is more literal than symbolic.

When most high priests were absorbed into the elders quorum, and only bishoprics and stake presidencies and high councils, stake patriarchs etc became the stake high priest group, I used the church statistical reports of wards stakes etc to get a rough estimate of the total worldwide number of high priests, I don't even know why I did it. But lo and behold, the estimated number was very close to 144,000. At our next stake conference, which was in the Assembly Hall in SLC, a stake high priest group choir sang, and not one person was missing. Apparently the 144,000 will sing a new song that only they will know and sing. I just found all that pretty interesting.

Hello there! I have been studying a bit ahead, and in Isaiah 11:6 I thought it said the lion would lay with the lamb? It actually states that the wolf will lay with the lamb. Everyone I asked old and young rember it lion and lamb, and I can't find anyone that can find it anywhere! Is this some sort of cultural mix up in language? Also we have a painting of a lion laying with a lamb in my ward that has been there since I was a kid and is there to this day. It Still shows the lion and the lamb, confirming my questions as to this being a cultural staple at the least. I am sure I'll have to wait for the episode, and I don't mind waiting but if you could give a look into it I would be appreciative.

I like this video and I generally agree with you, but I wanted to add something. In the first quote by Joseph Smith 9:11, notice that there is an ellipsis after the second paragraph. The missing portion says, "We frequently have mention made of the offering of sacrifice by the servants of the Most High in ancient days, prior to the law of Moses; which ordinances will be continued when the Priesthood is restored with all its authority, power and blessings. Elijah was the last Prophet that held the keys of the Priesthood, and who will, before the last dispensation, restore the authority and deliver the keys of the Priesthood, in order that all the ordinances may be attended to in righteousness. It is true that the Savior had authority and power to bestow this blessing; but the sons of Levi were too prejudiced. "And I will send Elijah the Prophet before the great and terrible day of the Lord," etc., etc. Why send Elijah? Because he holds the keys of authority to administer in all the ordinances of the Priesthood; and without the authority is given, the ordinances could not be administered in righteousness. It is a very prevalent opinion that the sacrifices which were offered were entirely consumed. This was not the case; if you read Leviticus 2:2-3, you will observe that the priests took a part as a memorial and offered it up before the Lord, while the remainder was kept for the maintenance of the priests; so that the offerings and sacrifices are not all consumed upon the altar--but the blood is sprinkled, and the fat and certain other portions are consumed. These sacrifices..." Sorry for making you read all that but I didn't want to leave anything out. The original quotations can be found here: www.josephsmithpapers.org/paper-summary/instruction-on-priesthood-circa-5-october-1840/17 It's clear that Joseph Smith is referring to animal sacrifices in this discourse. He mentions how blood is sprinkled and fat consumed, then goes on to say that THESE sacrifices, and others, will be restored. Maybe this was Joseph just learning line upon line like you said and that the true offering will just be book of remembrance, but I am perfectly fine in believing that animal sacrifice will return for some time. Perhaps there's something in animal sacrifice that allows us to perfect our book of remembrance and work for the dead.

I believe both are true (regarding the nature of sacrifices) and that there is no doctrinal conflict. Here is what Joseph Smith also taught: “These sacrifices [blood], as well as every ordinance belonging to the Priesthood, will, when the Temple of the Lord shall be built, and the sons of Levi be purified, be fully restored and attended to in all their powers, ramifications, and blessings. This ever did and ever will exist when the powers of the Melchizedek Priesthood are sufficiently manifest; else how can the restitution of all things spoken of by the Holy Prophets be brought to pass. It is not to be understood that the law of Moses will be established again with all its rites and variety of ceremonies; this has never been spoken of by the prophets; but those things which existed prior to Moses’ day, namely, sacrifice, will be continued.” (Teachings of the prophet Joseph Smith, pp. 172-73.)

You bring up a lot of good points in your presentation. It gives us a lot of great things to Ponder about. Better yet to pray about and have a discussion with the Lord. I believe when this time comes with the sons of Levi we will know what is going on when the prophet announces this even before it happens. Kind of like when Adam and Joseph Smith arrived to dedicate adam-ondi-ahman and the Gospel of Jesus Christ to pronounce it good, even where the temple is to be built in Missouri and the Lord appears. After this the Lord will come sometime later in his glory in the cloud with his Holy Angels to receive his people before the destruction of the wicked just like the time of Noah Gathering all of the Saints before the great destruction . I'm sure I messed up the spelling the name Adam ondi ahman. You probably know the correct spelling so no big deal.

Shouldn't the hierarchy of truth be: first what our current Prophet is saying as a revelator and mouthpiece of God, then the prophets and apostles of today and scripture, and then everyone else? First and foremost we need the guide of the Holy Ghost to affirm truth.

What is written in the scriptures, sometimes refers specifically to the people who were on the earth when the scriptures were written and to them only and not necessarily to all peoples of the whole world, for time and all eternity. Therefore what Joseph Smith says can sometimes disagree (or seem to disagree) with what others are saying... When reading statements or particular scriptural passages etc, one must alway consider who is speaking and who is supposed to be doing the listening. It's a mistake to automatically quote things out-of-context, without due consideration. (Not every single word, is to be likened unto ourselves.) What may be required for Jews living in Jerusalem may (or may not) be immediately required for Saints, residing in Salt Lake City. It's entirely possible to receive (seemingly) conflicting revelations or instructions and both be right.

13:45, you quoted Joseph Smith correctly, but you took what he said out of context. You're saying that he said that we are supposed to offer up a book of genealogy, not blood sacrifice. However, that's not what the quote says. It simply says what it says. This quote isn't saying that we are not to offer up sacrifice. It doesn't even say "offer", it says "present" a book of the records of our dead. It isn't saying to do one or the other. Joseph already said in your other quotes that we will offer sacrifices. Not sure why you're trying to say he says at 13:45 that we are not to offer sacrifices. In that same quote he even says that God will purge them that they may offer unto the Lord an offering. An "offering" means a sacrifice.

D&C84:31 Therefore, as I said concerning the sons of Moses-for the sons of Moses and also the sons of Aaron shall offer an acceptable offering AND sacrifice in the house of the Lord, which house shall be built unto the Lord in this generation, upon the consecrated spot as I have appointed.

One question remains, why use the potentially ambiguous language of “sons of Levi” if this is a general statement about temple work for all members. If so, much of the specificity of that prophecy seems unnecessary… One problem I have with more “watered down” interpretations of prophecy is that the scriptures (including modern ones) use meaningful language that many want to generalize to the point where the language is pretty much irrelevant and all that is meant (in a general interpretation) is…”do what modern members of the church of Jesus Christ latter-day saints have been commanded to do recently”… Am I wrong? Could it be there there are things that may seem odd or even problematic by our standards now but will be part of the ordinances and actions taken by God’s people just prior to and during His return? This is not to be antagonistic but I am genuinely curious in this matter.

Very interesting connections. I am concerned that you didn't focus more on the individual sacrifice to produce ascension. You mentioned it in passing in 3 Nephi 9:20, but that was it. There is no significance in any other sacrifice if we are not giving an acceptable offering in righteousness of a broken heart and contrite spirit. Too many think they received the Holy Ghost upon confirmation into the church, but how many are truly seeking to develop their sacrifice and have it be accepted of the Lord? How many have testimony of this covenant of the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost, or are too many ignorantly denying the gift and power of the Holy Ghost as Nephi warned in 2 Nephi 28:26? How many think they have received hearkening to the precepts of men and think they don't need more, and don't need to be baptized completely? That is much more important than the completed temple and the book of names. The carnal commandments never provide salvation, and too easily become a stumbling block for us to fall back. We all need to become broken if it's through willingness or compelling. God will prevail.

After 16 minutes you say that doctrines of salvation doesn’t conflict because it was written while he was president of the 12 apostles and not the prophet. However, we sustain the 12 apostles as “prophets seers and revelators.“ What you should say is that they are still people and can make mistakes. Joseph Smith made mistakes and was censured by the Lord and so was Moses. Peter is another great example of a prophet who was mistaken and had to be corrected. At times prophets are censured by everyday people and from it receive revelation… like D&C 89.

Seems rather obvious that the "Levites" will be those who have been converted, have received their patriarchal blessing and have been designated as "Levites"! Only then can they offer up a "sacrifice" in "righteousness"! Their sacrifice will not be after the manner of the Mosaic Law, but more probably will be after the manner of a "broken heart and contrite spirit"! Then, there is no need for the Aaronic priesthood any longer, since Christ has come and His priesthood reigns!!

You misread D&C 84:32…it reads “who’s sons are ye”. Not “who’s sons ye are” as you read it. Who’s sons are ye??? We can become the “sons of god” as we accept the covenant of the priesthood. This does not make us the sons of Levi!

Just a heads up. If you're going to do commercials on your videos, please watch out for what kinds. I just saw a lot of near naked butts and "positions" in the first quarter of this video. I'm not here to watch butts, thank you. Christian Homestead also has commercials, but at least his are wholesome, religious ones for the most part. And then in the last quarter of the video, I saw women flaunting their bodies on underwear. Really enjoying the video, except the types of commercials.

1828 Webster: "Until" - definition#5. To the degree that. Example: "Thou shalt push Syria, until they be consumed." (2 Chron. 18) So, Oliver Cowdery's use of "that" in DC 13 is better conveys the meaning of "until" in the parlance of today. "so that"! Otherwise, DC 13 would mean that the Aaronic priesthood will be taken from the Earth. That won't happen. It is a component of the eternal Melch. PH.

Very good presentation, but believe you’re a little off base. It appears you’re conflating the presentation of the “book of our dead’ in the temple with the sacrifices that will have been made in the temple that will make it possible to compile the “ book of our dead’ who will have previously received the essential saving gospel ordinances by proxy in the temple. Prior to the changes (actually deletions) that were made to the endowment ceremony in 1990, it was very obvious that the endowment ceremony itself is the sacrificial ordinance being referenced. But instead of the blood of animals being offered up there were what the apostle Peter calls “spiritual sacrifices” that symbolically had the element of blood sacrifice but only figuratively so and not literally. It’s a little more difficult to discern the element of blood sacrifice in the present presentation of the endowment, but for anyone with eyes to see it’s surely still present… Now in defense of your thesis it must be said that there is a very close relationship between the endowment and the “book of our dead,” but they are not exactly one and the same thing. As previously stated, the book placed on the alter will be a complete record of all the sacrificial ordinances performed in behalf of the dead but not the saving sacrificial ordinances per se. Note how in verse 24 the phrase “offering in righteousness’ is followed by a separating semicolon and the word ‘So although the sacrificial ordinances performed and the book are closely related, they are not exactly one and the same. Simply put, a record of the sacrificial ordinance performed for the dead is not the precisely the same as the sacrificial ordinances previously performed. It may seem I’m splitting hairs because the placing of the book on the alter will indeed be a kind of sacrificial ordinance, but it will be a sacrificial ordinance that will only be affirmed due to all the vicarious sacrificial temple work that will already have been performed, the prime purpose of which will be to acknowledge that all the necessary vicarious sacrificial ordinances will have already been performed by the sons of Moses and Levi. And that’s the key, the sacrifices themselves will not be carried out by one man who places the book on an alter but by all those who have been made the sons of Moses and Aaron… I’m open to correction. 24 Behold, the great day of the Lord is at hand; and who can abide the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appeareth? For he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fuller’s soap; and he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness. Let us, therefore, as a church and a people, and as Latter-day Saints, offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness; let us present in his holy temple, when it is finished, a book containing the records of our dead, which shall be worthy of all acceptation. (D&C 128)

I believe it to be dual meaning the levites in Jerusalem will do a blood sacrifice when the 3rd temple is built they don’t believe that Christ has come so therefor they will continue as they have done anciently. Just my thoughts we are not Jews we have never done sacrifice via blood shed Jews have. We can not replace the true Jewish people they have a very important roll in the second coming and the fallow different sets of rules that God recognizes. Again just my thoughts.
