I would love to see a 100-300/4.0 G master lens. It would compliment the 12-24/4 and the 24-105/4 just right...with a reasonable pull and a steady f/4.

I have a Sony NEX-7 and have been using a Sony 18-200 lens but I want something longer. Would it be daft to use this 100-400FE GM lens with a NEX-7? Pros and cons of doing so?

FWIW, I tried the 70-200 2.8 GM with the Sony 2x teleconverter. It was noticeably less sharp than the 70-400 G II with the Sony adapter. I would assume that the Sony 100-400 would be noticeably sharper too.

great review, bay the way yesterday i buy sony GM 100-400 attach on my camera sony a7r2..I have a problem with the mount camera or lens, no idea by the way.., every time I attach there is a slight shake on the mount. Do you experience also on A9 or A7 series cameras? but not affecting the results of the photo is just a little annoying.

I have the A7 III coupled with the 100-400mm and I don't have any shake or play.

Agree. Both Video Samples were awesome. Thumbs Up for the Lens+Camera...Was It me or I did hear a thunder at some point on the vid sample? (considering that was shot with the buil-in audio). Ill watch It again later (and get it to my "Sony" Folder if u don't mind) see u around : )

Not sure what I'm doing wrong but I paired this (100-400mm GM) with the a7III and I am having issues getting sharp pictures with this lens. Does not matter the focal length and I am shooting at the fastest shutter speed possible and it seems to be a little off.

Hi, lovely video by the way. I was wondering if you could elaborate more on the lens with the A6500 which is what I have and I am thinking about this lens. Shooting soccer/football lol generally how is it for action sports on the A6500, whats the AF like etc, am ok with its weight ratio although currently using the 70-200mm F4 G lens. Your thoughts will be really appreciated.

Aaah! Thank you for your thoughts on this lense! I also am shooting with the 70-200/4 and have been longing for mor tele! I was thinking of buying the 70-200/2,8 with 1,4x teleconverter but am convinced that the 100-400 is a better choice. I am shooting some wedding but mostly regular portraits and need something with a big aperture but will also invest in the sel135/1,8 so that, together with the 100-400 should get me going on a broad front with mu photography.

For that type of work the 2.8 and teleconverter makes more sense.

You will lose not one, as said in the video, but 2 stops with 2X converter and 1 stop with 1.4X converter. So, with 2X converter your widest aperture on the longer side will be F11. Barely usable, to say the least.

This should not of been a G Master lens. Ive used it on my A7rii and focus does hunt with this lens. Its a nice lens but to me its just a G Lens, Very pricey compared to the canon with the same focal length which is just as sharp as the Sony.

I feel the same way. Definitely a G series, but without a crazy-for-that focal length 2.8 aperture it's just not a G Master

I used the 100-400MM gmaster this weekend at a high school football game with the A7111 in the first half and in the second half with the A9 . With the A7111 it did hunt. With the A9 spot on everytime. No hunting, I 've shot the entire football season with the 70-200 MM Gmaster with the 2X teleconverter and the 100-400 is sharper and faster auto focus. It' s a great lens for sports!!!
