None that I can detect, yeah. I’ve used a whole bunch of crop lenses and full frame lenses in crop mode on my a7c and never had any quality issues I’ve noticed

Makes sense:) from my experience, working in video, crop lenses will still get you great results. I’m very rarely a photo guy so I’d double check if photos are important, otherwise I’d say go ahead and have full shooting 💪

It's worth every penny. I love my 18-105 f4 on both A5100, A6400 and on my A7III. Zoomed in to 25-30mm w. manual focus on my "ZOOM" adjusted A6400 gives great bokeh in video conferencing. I have some 3,5m to my background with several practical lights. I also love it for outdoor photos, it's always on my A6400 during my walks. Great video and one-liners, lmao..

Hi! I reckon you won't see this at this point but I might as well give it a shot. I'm buying an a7c tomorrow and I'm sort of on a budget with my lens decision. I've been eyeing this one in particular and my only concern (since this'll be my first full frame camera) is how much loss in quality there is when using an APSC lens on Full Frame. I know it crops to about 10ish MP when shooting photos, but my main focus is on videos. I believe the a7c downscales 5k footage to 4k, so from what I've gathered there shouldn't be much loss there. And from what I understand the conversion of the focal length would approximately be 18mm-105mm (APSC) = 28mm-150mm (Full Frame). Basically I wanna know if getting this lens on a Full Frame camera is a dumb idea. Thank you!

Can the Crane M2 gimbal hold this lens along with a zv-e10? I know it is above the recommended payload side but I would be grateful if you could test it out.
@dbvares87453 жыл бұрын
Hey FD, I’m afraid not; at least I’ve not been able to balance it. The weight is part of the issue but also the length and front heaviness of the lens creates problems. Maybe someone could make it work in limited circumstances but I can’t recommend planning on using the lens on the crane m2. On the bright side the in lens stabilisation is among the best I’ve used:) Thanks for watching, consider subbing if you enjoyed and have a great day 💪

Hi - I enjoyed this review but the quality kept changing. For example, in the first 30 seconds of your video outside and when you moved inside, were you using the 18-105? - Thanks, Peter.

Hey Peter, the outdoor shots and all the B roll we’re using the 18-105. The studio shots were either my sigma 16mm f1.4 or Sony 20mm f1.8. Watching a lot of your videos lately, i picked up the Sony ZV-E10 and I’m wondering if this lens is better than the Sony 10-18? What I’m trying to capture are my kids playing sports, I’m not super far but not super close and need something i can get a mix of videos and photos. Having a hard time trying to decide which would be best without breaking the bank. Thanks in advance.
@dbvares87453 жыл бұрын
Hey MWest, great Q. Out of those 2 options I’d go for the 18-105; the 10-18 really is wide to ultra wide so good for vlogging or landscapes and environment. Where you have subjects like kids playing sport you’ll want to be able to get more framing around them and get shots from a reasonable distance - for that the 18-105 is a great choice:) Hope that helps! Hey Jay, thanks for the kind words:) For this video I was mainly using aperture priority mode and a high shutter to control exposure. Awesome review. Thank you. I was seriously considering this lens for my a6400 for a while, but at the end of the day, and after watching a ton of videos, I don't think it's really much better than the 16-50 kit lens, which I actually think is underrated. At least for filmmaking. I know the 18-105 is technically better, but I think F4 makes it really not worth the price. I'm probably gonna save a few hundred dollars more and get the Tamron 17-70 F2.8. I think it's worth waiting another couple of months to have something that is much more professional/capable. Or... maybe I'll just get a couple of great primes. I have the Sony 35mm f1.8 OSS and it's awesome. Hmm... First world decisions. ;) thanks for the great Insight, I subscribed.
@dbvares87453 жыл бұрын
Thanks RW, really appreciate the kind words and glad it was helpful:) As with all things it depends on use case and it sounds like your thinking is spot on for yours. I’d say the tightest zoom range and the great stabilisation are the big wins of this lens for me vs the kit lens, but for a lot of other situations (for video at least) I think you’re right and differences aren’t huge. I do like the look of that tamron too! Building a bit of saving for the next lens investment and that’s one of the attractive options. Awesome to have you on board and thanks for watching:) Take care and have a great weekend 💪👍

@@dbvares8745 ha! This video just popped up in my feed, and so I figured I would drop in and say that I wound up buying this lens, I found it on eBay for $350 brand new, and it is a killer lens. I actually love it. As long as you pay attention to getting the proper lighting, and for me, I use manual focus most of the time, so overall, I find it to be a really good lens with lots of character. For my filmmaking, I find that I mainly use two prime lenses most of the time, but I’m using this more and more as time goes by. After using it for a few months, I don’t know if the Tamron would make that much of a difference for video. I’ve never tried it, but it would have to be pretty outstanding to be that much better than this lens. At least for video. I’m actually about to shoot a documentary, and just take this lens with me and leave my other primes at home, because I feel pretty confident that I’ll get exactly what I want, and where I’m going makes it difficult to take too much stuff with me, so we’ll see what happens, but I feel pretty good about this lens, at this point.
