Hello Dr Wiggo, thank you so much for this review! I'm considering getting this player now that my Samsung Region B 3D Blu-ray player won't recognize 99% of my Blu-ray discs (what's up with that??) and the region free laptop with Blu-ray player I would connect to the TV died. Shame about the 3D/Dolby Vision issue. I've noticed that 220 Electronics (the guys who modify these players) also sell on their own website (not sure about Amazon) two LG players that also have 3D, 4KUHD, HDR10 & Dolby Vision, the LG UBK90 and the LG UBKM9, both for $319. Maybe these solve the 3D/Dolby Vision thing but on the other hand they probably don't support SACD playback... Since laptops now stupidly come with no optical drives, do you know anything about external blu-ray players for PC? Like basically is there a difference between the ones that cost 20-40 bucks and the ones that go for over 140? Thanks again and take care.

SACD support is definitely a Sony thing. I know nothing about PC Blu-rays. Sorry.

How has the player been working for you? Impressive that it also plays SACD. Even the mighty Panasonic UB9000 doesn’t do that! Also…how is the noise level? Do you have to change settings (usually a remote feature) to enable the region free capability or does it just work as soon as you pop in a region b disc, etc?
@DrWiggo2 жыл бұрын
Re: SACD, Sony was the major player pushing it, so that's why that's there (and I am happy it is, as I invested hundreds of dollars in SACDs. BTW, Oppo supported SACD, too, so I was sad to see them exit the category). The region-free on the unit I bought (and linked to) requires changing settings. There was another more expensive version that works as soon as you pop it in, so if you switch a lot, you might want to track that down and spend the extra $100 or so.

Missed the noise level question. I haven't noticed any issues, but it's not attached to my big living room 5.2.4 Atmos system.

Nice video! So this player does indeed play 3D Blu-rays via streaming or discs even though there's no icon on the player itself right? ...someone mentioned that they think it would stream 3D but not play an actual 3D disc though.

Yes it plays 3D Blu-ray discs. That’s why I bought it.

@@kjmullinz I don’t know of any way to stream 3D movies (except Plex, from other replies to this video).

They came pre-installed. Don't know if there's a way to get more.

Glad I could help! It's a good little player. I saw Linus Tech Tips plugging a Panasonic player that was $500 and didn't support SACD, which just made me like this one more.

What differences does the Sony ubh x700/M in comparison to the Sony ubh x700?
@DrWiggo2 жыл бұрын
Looking at the listings, the /M is a pound lighter. But all the specs are the same, so I guess they just did some streamlining.

You can rip all your discs and play them on a Zidoo box...supports 3D.
@DrWiggo2 жыл бұрын
So instead of $200 I should spend way more on storage and then spend weeks ripping my hundreds of discs? No thanks. But good to know it supports 3D!

What's the difference between this player and the Sony X800 m2 ?
@DrWiggo2 жыл бұрын
X800 costs more, supports DVD-Audio, has dual-band WiFi, has HDMI 2.0b (as opposed to 2.0a), and is 5 lbs heavier. All other specs are exactly the same. That's why I went with the 700 (because region-free version cheaper)
@mattk50202 жыл бұрын
@@DrWiggo I'm thinking of getting the X700 for Dolby Vision or one of the Panasonic's.

Do you know if I can watch 3D blu-ray movies on a TV from 2020-2021?

Sadly, the last 3D capable TVs were made in 2017. So you can only watch them in 2D.

@@DrWiggo Any plans to maybe do something with a plex media server? that way you wouldn't have to plant BD players in every room and it would automatically configure itself for hdr/dv/3d with no need to adjust settings. Former student, would love to assist with this.

I thought they stopped making 3D TV's over a decade ago?
@DrWiggo2 жыл бұрын
They made 3D TVs until 2017. And there are many hundreds of millions of them in peoples homes around the world. They still release 3D Blu-Rays of recent movies (Spiderman No Way Home, Dune; you just have to buy them from overseas).
Did you watch the part about having to go into settings (with no disc inserted) and turn it on? Or does it not work after you do that? (In which case it may be a hand-shaking problem between the player and the TV.)
