You should have also mentioned that if you use 4K30FPS the rolling shutter is less and comparable to the A7s2. And if you switch to any 1080p mode in the camera the rolling shutter is so unnoticeable it almost looks like a global shutter. I've filmed some action sports at 1080p 60fps with really fast whip pans and literally saw zero rolling shutter. 4K 24fps should only be used for slow pans and static shots tho but is useable handheld. I used the 4K 24fps on a small plane ride and the plane was very shaky and the footage looked great

Hey David, does it have the rolling sutter when you flim 1080p120fps ? I want to buy this camera for filming and mostly slow motion footages but this problem could be a deal breaker for me.

Hi, I truly love watching your camera reviews, you do a pretty good job, HOWEVER, on this one, i would like to point out a stereotype you propagate at minute 7:50, Africa is a massive continent with over 50 countries and it is not a blazing hot desert!!!!, I do shoot videos in Nairobi (which means "cold" or "cool"), and my cameras never overheat. My summer experience in Germany is unbearable compared to Nairobi, Kenya (Temperature-wise). Please, avoid this stereotyping, mention a county and the zone when reviewing a camera, better still speak of your personal experience shooting in that "Africa". That said, i still love your reviews man!

Fast cards help with overheating. The firmware upgrade from Sony (1.10) also helps a lot. The only time I had the overheat problem was when I was in direct sunlight. Rolling shutter is not as big a problem with 1080P. I plan my videos to shoot 1080p in those instances where rolling shutter might be a problem. The headphone jack is an easy fix. Same with battery life. So much for the problems with the A6300. I love mine. Best camera for the money. Sigma lenses kick butt.

Brilliant review, I was previously looking at the A7rii but obviously the price is rather steep when you consider that I'm a student. My partner stumbled upon this camera. online spec lists and reviews tend to be extraordinarily biased. this has helped me incredibly to understand the strengths and weaknesses of something that is currently the top end of my budget. Thank you. I'll be sure to comment how I get on should I go and purchase. :) edit: purchased today will take delivery tomorrow and update again shortly.

Good review video. We've been using the A6300 for 3 months now and it performs very well. Great 4K video images, even in low light! The Pro's and Con's mentioned in this video and pretty much spot on, but I can add something about the Audio part. The A6300 has microphone in but no audio out (headphone), which some regard to be a drawback. The sound quality of the built-in microphones is very good though, and the sound level management and limiters do work well. There are external solutions where you can loop microphones through an amplifier, which does have headphone out. So if you want to get really professional and use XLR connector based audio gear, you need an external solution anyway.

i found a really great deal on a used one and i’m still a beginner but it has some great features for the kind of video i plan to shoot. your points about it’s lacking image stabilization and shooting quick-moving objects outdoors kind of turns me away. i plan on shooting motorsports at high frame-rate for cool slow-motion shots. for $500 i feel like i should just test my own luck with it, but then i wonder if it’s worth saving for something better.
@RyoHazuki2248 жыл бұрын
I love this camera. And though for me, the lack of a headphone out port isn't really that big of deal. Yeah its good for monitoring audio... but really for most situations that are under your control, like if you're interviewing somebody in a quiet room, shotgun mic on the camera or something, what are the chances that you'll run into audio issues if you're NOT monitoring it? You can see onscreen the audio levels to make sure that it's picking up the sound, not being too quiet or too loud. Maybe the only real issue is if you're trying to capture audio in a loud, crowded public area and you want to be sure you're capturing the right audio. Or if you're outdoors and you don't know if the breeze is producing too much wind noise. But I'd figure any audio guy worth his salt would know what conditions would produce what background noise with what mic setup, and he'd know what to do about it. Would it be nice if it DID have the option for audio out? Sure of course. But the lack of it isn't that big of a downside that a lot of people are making it out to be, that without it it'll make it "impossible" to use for hardcore video/audio shooters.

It's such a frustrating camera release. Fantastic, specs, beautiful video, amazing auto focus etc... But the terrible 4K rolling shutter, and the fact that you can't trust it due to overheating, and stuff, makes me both upset and sad. I was really looking forward to this camera, but it's such a big no. I hope they'll come out with an a6300s or something real quick to address these standout problems. It'd be great with an official battery grip too.
@dslrvideoshooter8 жыл бұрын
I hear ya. My inter conspiracy theorist thinks Sony signed off on all the problems so that people would be moved to buy more expensive cameras but they would still have an offering in that price range.
@truecuckoo8 жыл бұрын
+DSLR Video Shooter Hehe... I'm no conspiracy enthusiast though. I think it's more likely that they "had" to release it, due to budget constraints etc. Probably a lot of internal pressure involved when Sony releases a new camera. I don't understand the business behind it though. I mean.. What, they think people gonna shoot 30 second Instagram videos occasionally? It could easily be their cash cow, if done right.

Great video and great feedback about this camera. I have the A6300 and yes, I had to do a workaround for the audio recording. I think your choice of words were wrong though. You said the A6300 is useless for audio. Not it's not. It's useless for "monitoring" audio sound. It does have recording level adjustments with record level meters and stereo mics built in, so it's not "useless" for audio. I bought a Zoom H5 and while I would've preferred a more simpler solution I'm glad I did get the H5. Higher quality recording onto an SD card, plus the option to directly record into the camera. I use this for both my A6300 and Nikon D810. The card slot placement is subjective. I don't think it's any more of a hassle than taking the cards out of my Nikon D810. Once you do it, you can do again with your eyes closed, but I understand your point. I've come to understand about Sony is what they do well they do VERY WELL but they are notorious for cutting corners and leaving the consumer wanting more.
@dslrvideoshooter8 жыл бұрын
Technically yes, the camera isn't useless when it comes to audio, but from a production side it is. I would never trust the camera alone for audio on a gig. We will have to disagree on the card placement. It is terrible lol.

I have a question that no one seems to be able to answer. I use autofocus on video (mostly at a distance you are from the camera filming myself) but from time to time i need to bring a product really close to the camera. The autofocus works amazingly well. However when i move the product away the temperature of the video (color) changes dramatically to a very cool looking color and this is incredible frustrating. I bought this camera on the amazing capabilities of autofocus but i cannot seem to stop this temperature change.... any help would be most welcome. Thank you. And amazing channel.
@dslrvideoshooter8 жыл бұрын
It might be because you're using auto white balance which is almost always a bad idea. If you shoot outside in sunlight, try using the sun setting or kelvin WB between 4800K-5800K. If you shoot indoors with tungsten/warm light, try using the tungsten/lightbulb WB setting or kelvin set to 3000K-3600K. The main point is to set your white balance to whatever color temperature the lighting is and lock it in. Auto white balance will try to find something white and change the color automatically, the problem with that is it can get mixed up and use your hand for a white reading which will obviously mess up the color.

Thanks for the review - very informative. I am quite new in all this video-shooting, but I have realized that I need some god gear to be able to make the quality videoes I wish. I am mainly going to shoot indoor yoga (but with some lighting challenges as I would like it to be in front of some really nice big windows) and then outdoors riding and horse handling - some of which includes some speed. I am concerned about the length of the recordings and the overheating, as I would like to be able to record for 1-1½ hours straight (fx when doing clinics or a yoga programme). And also the rolling shutter, especially if I'm outdoors with a horse at a canter fx. Are there any ways to tackle these challenges? Or should I choose another camera? And in this case, are there any good alternatives in the same price range? Also, has somebody experimented with shooting videoes with shorter shutter speeds to use the recordings fors stills instead of video? Often I don't have anybody else around to press a button for a picture while I'm in motion, so I figured if you altered the settings a bit, you could maybe get decent stills from a 4k video for use on social media and in blog posts.

Good video - I'm subscribing! You do the exact same type of work I do, and I've been thinking of getting a new camera. For interviews, though, don't you find 4k shows off TOO much detail - flaws and blemishes in the subject's skin? With girls it's a concern when they look at the interview footage and see EVERY little flaw (you know how girls - and some men - are.) It seems like you just take a wider shot ... or do you shoot the interviews in 1080 and everything else in 4k or 120p? Main cam is my old Sony EX1R, a workhorse, but I've got the Samsung NX1 now as my 4k/slo-mo camera ... just not ecstatic about transcoding everything, but the footage IS amazing. Love to hear your thoughts, when you have time.

So I am trying to start a photography business as well as begin making videos. I have a budget of around $1000 (I am 17) and I have a few wants/needs for a camera. These include: Sharp image quality, at least 6 fps shooting, at least 1080p 60fps (slow motion is something I will be doing) but 4k would be much better, at least 20000 iso, wi fi and bluetooth as well as time lapse mode would be nice, tilting display, good auto focus, microphone port (not necessary but it would be nice), a touch screen would be great, Environmental sealing would also be nice, lots of lenses to choose from. So those are my needs/wants in a camera, It will be for everything from landscape photography, to product photography, portraits and the video will be used just as much. I have narrowed my search to 2 camera that I have found and can get for the same price right now. They are the Canon T7i and the Sony a6300. The kits I found have the following: Canon T7i, EF-S 18 - 55mm IS STIM, EF-S 55 - 250mm lens, filter, battery charger, 2 batteries and camera bag or the Sony a6300, 16 - 50mm lens, battery and charger. Both kits cost the same. I am having trouble deciding, I like the T7i for the ease of use i.e. touch screen, fully articulating, lots of lens options, good button layout, classic dslr feel and the 60fps 1080p is the only reason I want to pay more for it over the T6i which is $500 off at the moment as I want to do slow motion. But I am disappointed that it doesn't have 4k which is why the sony a6300 is nice. I like the 4k capabilities and the 1080p 60fps. Really both cameras have similar photography capabilities. But I am disappointed that the sony a6300 doesn't have a touch screen and the numerous articles about sony a6300's over heating are worrisome as well as the poor button layout. Anyways, my question is which of these 2 packages is the better option for my needs as both are the same price and if you have a better option to recommend please let me know! Thank you very much and I hope to hear some replies soon as the deals are time sensitive. Thanks.

I just wonder if you think it will be problematic to grade the footage from both cameras, and use it in the same video, since the GX80 doesn't have a flat shooting profile?

Your video is high end pro shooting keep it going

What about the articulated 180º LCD? By the way, can you compare it to the Samsung Nx 1?

Nice video. What lens is on your camera? I think you have it on there throughout, but to be clear, I'm asking about the lens on the camera you are holding at time code 3:28. Thanks!

Ah, I think that is the Sony 16-70mm F4.0

You have great content and information (great audio as well on this video). One thing I would do though is add a little more flare to your videos to make them more appealing
@bryansheehy20008 жыл бұрын
Yes, add many lens flares every ten seconds.

When you refer to faster cards, are you talking about the actual memory card with higher transfer rates?

Hey Caleb, what is your opinion of the 18-105mm F4 G lens for this camera? Would you recommend getting that or the zeiss 16-70? I am looking to shoot 4K video
@dslrvideoshooter8 жыл бұрын
I would probably get the 16-70. But the 18-105 is cheaper. The main thing I don't like about the 18-205 is the minimum focus distance. You can't get very close to your subject so no close up shots.
@LFPAnimations8 жыл бұрын
***** Thanks for the reply! Yeah the 16-70 sort of brings this camera purchase out of my price range. Although I really like the smaller form factor and zeiss glass. How bad is the kit lens when recording 4K? I am thinking of keeping a lot of my EOS glass and just having one sony lens to use autofocus on.

Hey, please I'm considering to buy A6300 but I'm photographer and videographer as well. I'd like to use A6300 for wedding/events ..., do you think it is possible to handle photography with EF lenses? Sigma MC-11 looks the best.

I'm thinking of getting my first interchangeable lens camera. My choices are either a Canon 80D or Sony a6300! Help me. Which is better? Is the 1080p shot on this camera better than canon's 1080p? Please help me.

I got this background hissing sound when I start recording. It just won't stays completely silent in an enclose room without any sound. Turning the audio rec level down doesn't eliminate the background noise. Is it a defect or normal? Thanks

Hi, I saw that there's a firmware update that addresses the overheating issue. Tell me if the camera does happen to overheat, how long do you need to wait before continuing with the shoot ?? Thanks

Depends on many many factors. Indoors it would work for quite a while.

Hi, thank you for a very frank and interesting video. I am on that gruelling 'hunt for my next camera thing' (yeah, I'm emotionally exhausted). I'm interested in documenting events (mostly indoors) so the Sony A6300 might seem an obvious choice were it not for the 'cons' you mention. So a recent competitor (I'm finally down to just two cameras, hooray) is the new Fujifilm X-T2, which seems to rectify some of these 'cons'...But is a lot more expensive. Do you have any thoughts on the X-T2 in comparison to your A6300 experience, please?
@dslrvideoshooter8 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried the X-T2 so I can't comment :-S That said, I think skipping the a6300 is a smart move. One less camera to consider!

Hey I am planning on getting this camera. I would be recording videos of people playing acoustic guitar and singing. Whats the best mic i could get for this camera for live music? Is there a certain one?
