FIX: In the video I say that you can control your video settings only in video mode and not in S&Q mode. IN FACT, you can actually modify the Aperture and the Shutter speed, ISO, ECT... in S&Q as well, when you are in manual mode (at least). I don't know if I missed it or if it's from a Firmware update. Sorry about that. Cheers!

Thank you so much for sharing this - I'll be buying an A6700 for macro video, and have been struggling to find examples such as this showing the camera's macro video capacities, especially when it comes to video AF - so this is super helpful, and also very convincing. Amazing shots (due to videographer skills of course, but happy to see the camera is a good tool for this) My application is slightly different as it will be underwater macro video, especially fast moving small crustaceans, planktonic and larval forms in open water, which is why video AF is really important (though I usually shoot standard macro in MF with peaking). This setup clearly works perfectly for your purposes, but I was wondering if you had tested any other APS-C lenses for macro-video applications? The one thing I'm a little worried about is lens AF speed in video mode, and wondering if native Sony lenses would be faster than others or if it's not necessarily the case. Merci encore! ben

Thank you for your comment Ben! No, I am using a manual lens Laowa 65mm with Fuji for macro. I choose this Sony set up for video and I like it, but I am fairly new to it. I was close to buy the Fuji lens equivalent 80mm macro, but I really needed to try the strong Sony AF. Its not perfect, It was probably design for bees an butterflies actually, but I am happy with it. Another idea that I had was going with the OM1 and the expensive 90mm macro. Maybe you should look at this one as well. I have another video with a few footage of wasps where I just let the Sony AF do its job, coming in a couple of days. Its on a tripod, an we can see the AF more clearly at work. Cheers! ✌😀

Thank you Robert! 👍 That little camera is a lot of fun! I will mainly using it for KZbin Shorts and B-roll of macro stuff. I am also thinking about selling stock footages online... Even though it seems time consuming. Thank's for the comment, cheers! ✌️😀

Are you being chased by Aswang in this video 🤣 Wow this was so helpful - I sold some Olympus Lens to reduce that kit and some unused lenses to fund a new camera body - but then for months now I have been on the fence of what to get - I am basically down to this vs the a7cii - mainly for travel, street, and better video. I mainly want to do really nice slow mo macro video but also use it for travel sometimes when I want to change it up and take instead of the Olympus - this might be it! Amazing that it can autofocus shooting at 120FPS! Impossible on even the newest OM System bodies!

@@BMadPhoto I must say, usually I buy a shiny thing and then I regret. But this combo is my favourite for macro video and close up, followed by my Canon R7 with the RF100-400 for close up with an excellent 120fps at 1080p. For macro photos my Fuji is still the best for me with the 40MP. I have no doubt that this A6700 is good for street. It is good at everything. It will overheat though if you insist on a subject. I guess probably 3 to 6 min at 4k120fps before a warning. I never tried it though. (Put your warning on high by the way. That's what KZbinrs say...) Remember that the Canon R7 mark 2 or the R6 mark 3 may come soon, and a new Sony is rumored to arrive in November. It could be a very expensive A1 mark 2 though. 😁 I hope you make the right choice! 😄✌️

Chris - I dont know how I missed this. It is AWESOME. I really liked the A6700 and that 90mm lens. All the lower end cameras have rolling shutter and nothing is perfect. You just get some amazing shots. As far as the R7, I use the eye AF with the 100mm EF macro lens but I dont get anything like you do. 🙏🤗💖

What a cool little camera, right? 😀 Have a look at the 7Artisans 60mm mark 2 if you are looking for an affordable 1:1 macro, I bought mine around 7k pesos in Lazada. I have a review on it. I will receive a lens even cheaper in a couple of days and probably do a review in the future as well. (TTartisans 40mm F2.8 macro). Thank you for the comment UrbanWildeCDO, cheers! 😀👍

Thank you very much! 😀 Yeah, I figured out only after running that the S&Q 240p actually works well with butterflies... That would have been more beautiful to see maybe. Your 90mm is very nice, at least you have that native 1.6X magnification. Macro vidéo Is very challenging but rewarding when you finally get a good footage with a subject that is doing something without moving too much. 😆 Cheers! ✌️😀

I have the 6700 and 90mm. i was using a Canon R5, but my back hurt, and this is a much lighter setup it seems. Thanks for the video. I’m still trying to figure out how to get focus tracking on a subject when shooting video where focus seems (when on auto) to have a mind of it’s own. I’m a very experience still shooter (40 years!) but new to macro video. Question, for videos like the ladybug, are you using a tripod? I doubt I could get it that smooth hand held. Also, I assume very little if any breeze in that situation.
@Chrispitchwildlife3 ай бұрын
Thank you for the comment Rfh! I am kind of a beginner too at video. But I am a bit more used to manually focus in video mode with my manual macro lenses. And I probably used that skill in this video more that I thought. I think this combo will do very well for a butterfly at close distances and even focus on the head. But around 1:1 it will just detect some contrast and stick to it. I think in this video I was half manually focusing by playing with the minimum focus distance, if you see what I mean. Anyway, all that to say that for macro videography Sony will help by detecting something, but then you kind of play with that minimum focus distance and/or the AF ON, or even with the button on the lens that stop the AF. And you hope for that 2 or 3 sec of magic moment when the subject is doing something without moving. I have lot of fun trying since 2 weeks now. I have 4 or 5 short footage that are really cool. I think. In my next video I'll show how I use my tripod to help with shakiness. I try to do the video but it's very humid at the time... Cheers! 😀👍
@Chrispitchwildlife3 ай бұрын
No, for the ladybug I was handheld with steady mode I think, or standard stabilisation mode. At that distance it's fine. Yes the wind is not your friend. 😁

Beautiful video again, Pitch! I'd like it of you tell us more about that lens in another video, it may go in my shopping basket! I bought the full version of DaVinci Resolve because of the A6700 10 bit video, just a few months ago, it was a good buy for me. You have some beautiful bugs there...

Thank you The_rat!😀Yes, it's very probable that I do a review of the lens, but in a couple of months. I did not think about that 10 bit thing actually, and I just read now what comes with the studio version. I think it's actually not that expensive if you plan to use it for a long time, so I will buy when I am back in Switzerland. Cheers! 😀👍
