YOU DECIDE if there is really an $800 difference between the Sony a6700 vs the Sony ZV-E1? As an everyday content creating entrepreneur I'm looking for a few basic settings done right and few bonus features to make my life easier, and I'm sure you are too.
BUT these two cameras are near identical, but there's still a few things that makes me go for the ZV-E1 over the a6700, but which one is right for you?

Thanks Diana for all the perspective. I'm coming from a zve10 leaning towards the zve1 because of thr DA stabilization but am hesitant bc I haven't found a light wide or zoom FF lens for travel vlogging. Do you mind sharing what you use of any suggestions?

Howdy @PeterSu I see you've asked this question across a couple of videos a couple of times while I was taking some time offline. I'm making a video response to this but the short answer would be based in one or two avenues. One option is to take the Sony PZ route. They have lenses like the Sony 16-35mm F4 PZ, and even the new Sony 16-25mm f2.8 lens that was just released. You may see a lot of other fellow creators with the Sony 20mm f1.8 lens as well. The second option is go the APS-C route. APS-C is honestly where I've found all the ideal focal lengths outside the 16mm full frame zoom options. Those are those lenses like the Sigma 10-18mm f2.8, Sony 10-18mm f4 and 10-20mmm f4. PZ, Tamron 11-20mm f2.8, and the Sony 11mm f1.8 lens. Yes, they're APS-C and not full frame but the biggest they win in size, they're still good quality glass. Plus, when you actually travel with them they don't weigh down your arm after all day use or carrying it with you, and can still fit easily in any bag or jacket pocket. Lastly, and the biggest reason on top of the weight and size for me, is the fact once you add on the stabilization the fact it's an APS-C lens is where it wins, not becomes a loss. Most want full frame to fully utilize the sensor, makes sense right? That's until you add on the stabe and that same percentage difference is lost anyway. Just because it's an APS-C lens doesn't mean you need to crop in 1.5x before you get full use of the lens. You'll see exactly what I mean in the video but those are my general thoughts on choosing a vlogging lens. I go APS-C every time personally.

@@DianaGladney Thanks a lot for the detailed response! Haha yeah I kind of went down a rabbit hole on this one... Ah gotcha. The Sony 16-25mm f2.8 is only 400g that's nice. I thought you mainly use the ZVE-1 now though? Or are you saying for travel it's usually APS-C for you? Thanks a lot for all your thoughts, this has been really helpful.

You're very welcome. At times I do use or will test other cameras alongside my ZV-E1 but the ZV-E1 has been my primary video camera and the one I use all the time regardless. So, your thinking isn't off there because it's definitely easy to get caught in some spiral search loop looking for answers lol been there many times. Even on my ZV-E1 being a full frame camera, I still personally choose to go with APS-C lenses for vlogging and on the go content creation. Their size, weight, and quality all match exactly what I would want in a lens. I've tried others but full frame glass tends to either be too heavy, too big or both lol. My camera is lightweight and I want a compatible lens. I haven't tried anything full frame that really has been very comfortable for me when traveling and creating on the go I want to carry with me. Until Sony made this recent lens, that's as close as I've seen on the market for both size and weight. But yes, 100% of the time, I put an APS-C lens on the camera I use when traveling and vlogging because it fits perfectly in a very small sling bag and isn't heavy. Some stuff can look good online or technically looking at specs, but the real test comes down to if you want to actually carry that stuff with you when traveling. 10/10 APS-C lenses always won that decision process when choosing what to carry when actually having to carry it or leave something back at the hotel and stuff.

Almost 3 weeks ago I got myself a6700 but I haven't yet figured the best color profile to use. I love playing with color grading and but with the sloge cinetone I must say I haven't been able to get it right. Images gets grainy and I feel like I got the wrong camera but I know I maybe I have to give it time and learn a little bit more. I wonder what would be the best camera settings light condition combination for my sit downs and vlog video. Any suggestions Diana

You're very welcome! and Happy New Year! 😊 Well, I would always suggest looking into why you want to upgrade, what benefits would it add over something else. Like I shared in the video, I don't regret getting the ZV-E1 personally, but the a6700 is hard to beat for all it does. Can't go wrong with either though.

I really love the full frame look and the tracking the ZV-E1 has, I'm a one Woman band so it'll be brilliant for walk about videos. I'm not a pro videographer so I don't need it, it's more of a want, not a need really. Thanks for the food for thought and another helpful video ❤

From my experience of upgrading from zv e10 to e1 I can say that definitely, if you value compactness but a6700. Because full frame lenses aint no compact at all. There is no full frame alternative sizewise to sigma 18-50 and also to 10-18, or sony 11 1.8. Big full frame lenses also feels like 10 times front heavy with zve1 and you kinda have to have cage etc making your setup twice bigger weightwise and quadruple volumewise. Dont fall for the compactness of zv e1 camera itself, because this size is nullified by lens sizes

Thank you for this. I'm wondering how the dynamic active perform in low light at a shutter speed that follows the 180 degree rule? Is it able to remove the micro jitters from light sources like signs and street lights, or do we still need a gimbal for that?
@DianaGladney
@DianaGladney 5 ай бұрын
You're very welcome Tim, glad this video was helpful for you. In my experience on the ZV-E1, it's already phenomenal when it comes to low light based on the sensor tech and the quality of the lens matters too. However, I've traveled with a simple budget-friendly lens and the ZV-E1 when documenting my travels and it still worked like a charm. Going from indoors to outdoors, even if you put it on some kind of auto setting like Aperture priority or even Intelligent Auto, it still works great. The biggest thing I've found is if you use a wide angle APS-C lens and you keep it really wide, you'll still get some warbling on the edges, but if you zoom in a little, it takes care of that.

Sony ZV-E1 was my first "big boy" camera. I went from using my smartphone for photos and video to the ZVE1. It's a WONDERFUL camera. It never overheats on me when videoing. The first time it DID overheat was when I started using it for Zoom meetings. But once I slapped on the Ulanzi cooling fan, all is good! I will say that the $2300 for the camera and $35 for the cooling fan is a REALLY good deal compared to a more expensive camera that doesn't overheat (a7Siii for $3500 or a7iv for $2500 which doesn't have the fully articulating screen).
@DianaGladney
@DianaGladney 5 ай бұрын
That's awesome to hear you're enjoying your camera! The need for a fan just seems to be the season we're in with camera specs outpacing the camera body designs at the moment. Either the tech will create better bodies that are still economical or we'll all just get used to keeping a fan handy, but I don't mind it. It's a small investment to have an awesome camera. Also, by the way, the A7S 3 and A74 both have the fully articulating screens. They rotate the same way the ZV-E1 does.

@@DianaGladney holy moly you’re right - they do! Man, I just had to do a deep dive as to why I didn’t buy one of those instead haha but I got my answer and am glad (for now) that I got the ZVE1. I’m going to look in to the A7SIV assuming it’ll have everything the ZVE1 has but won’t overheat (if it comes out this year). Having to constantly check and wonder if I’m still recording 4k footage (seeing if the ZVE1 has shut down due to overheating) keeps me in a slight anxious mode at times. I’d pay more for the specs of the ZVE1 but in a bigger body that won’t overheat

Hello Diana, about ZV-E1 shot marks, I want to see how it works. Are the shots marks visible when I import the video in Final Cut? This is crucial for me. I need to edit fast and save time 🙏🏼
@DianaGladney
@DianaGladney 5 ай бұрын
As far as I've found with the Shot Marks on the cameras, the ONLY place I've seen them show up is within Sony's Catalyst Browse software and on the new Sony camera app. I don't think they've considered how valuable they are outside of their proprietary software and only had 1-2 things in mind for their use case. I've not found any way to transition it from the file to pop-up in FCP. I know it's in the metadata for the file, since Sony's software on the computer recognizes it immediately, but as far as I know to date, there's no way to auto-import that into Final Cut or any other software. I'd put my money on Davinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, or some other 3rd party software being the first to fix that problem to see the metadata details to eventually create markers in the camera that show up on the raw files when imported. That's the best I've got so far.

I have to say I have the ZV-E10 and the a6700 and on the E10 I have never used product showcase. However I do use the EVF quite a bit and while I do wear glasses I was able to adjust the EVF to work with my eye. But the dials Yes the dials that is the great thing you those of us that like to run and gun. Switching mode is super easy, if I am videoing something and I want to take a few snaps and then go back to videoing it just so fast and easy. And then there are the 3 memory setting for each of the 3 modes, 9 fast memory setting. In S&Q I set one for Timelapse and one for 240fps slow motion. The Autofocus is almost 100% and I love the battery life over the E10 as well as the memory card slot is on the side. I think this is my camera until Global Shutter filters down to an affordable Camera.
@DianaGladney

How interesting. The ZV-E10 battery life over the a6700 is a HUGE difference for sure. What I found interesting with the dials and the modes were a little weird in my experience. Being used to being able to switch it on screen while in front of the camera, you have to use the dials. So, you kind of have a pointless button on screen. It feels more like something that needs to be ironed out software wise, and would helpful being able to customize the on-screen options. I think that was the biggest difference for me. Being in front vs behind the camera switches up the workflows. So, the month I tested the camera was mostly from in front of the camera. I can definitely see how it'd be different mostly being behind the camera. Thanks for sharing your perspective, gives me something else to try out specifically next time I pick up this camera.

Those jangly strap holders on A6700 ticked me off a bit. Also, ZVE1 spoiled me for awesome low light performance. But for wildlife in good light, A6700 is great. I need an EVF, so ZVE1 is difficult for bird photography. I sold A6700 but I miss it.

Ah, how interesting. You know you can take those things off really easily lol. I always take them off because they are super annoying. There's really no reason for me not to be gushing over the a6700, but I'm in the same boat. The ZV-E1 spoiled me and now the best of the best on Sony's APS-C still isn't enough to win me back to the APS-C team lol. I could definitely see how the extra MP on the camera would be helpful for punching and getting more details in your photography. Who knows, you may find your way back to the a6700 or something else in time that fits both needs better for you.

hey, I'm trying to get into making content and I want to know if that the zv e10 is more crop in then the a6700 with the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN
@DianaGladney
@DianaGladney Ай бұрын
All Sony APS-C cameras have the same crop factor, so the ZV-E10 and a6700 will have the same field of view with the Sigma 16mm lens. The Sony ZV-E1 however is not the APS-C camera, it’s the newer Full Frame camera. Hopefully that clears up the confusion between the model numbers. Because the ZV-E1 is full frame, it’s not exactly the same because that lens is made for APS-C cameras. So, you’ll need to crop in a bit on the ZV-E1 to remove the vignette around the camera.

Maybe I missed it but did you speak to the evf/with the shade? The EVF is small but much brighter/bigger than the older evfs and that is the main reason I have the a6700/a7cr over the zv-e1. (If it had an evf and could do pixel shift that would be my camera).

Well, the a6700 is awesome. Overheating just seems to be the season we're in with cameras across the board right now unless the body design is larger and built to handle better heat dissipation or just has a fan built-in, even other brands are hitting that ceiling. At this point, I just recommend grabbing the Ulanzi fan and calling it a day. From all day shoots to just absurdly long work days where my camera is on throughout the day, it's crazy how a bit more airflow completely removes the concern. Plus, the Dynamic Active just increases the time in post a little. You can still use Sony Catalyst Browse to smooth out any jitters with the stabilization.

You kept switching your naming from E1 and E10 to 6700. Either would be a valid comparison but kind of confusing. You mentioned the E1 isn’t quite meant for Cinematic shoots like the FX3 or Siii but it’s the same sensor and just as capable. Rig it out and you’re good. Also, regarding dual base ISOs. They are always there as they are based on the sensor and which profile you use. Slog has a different dual ISOs than using SCinetone. But they are still there and you just have to look it up. You also mentioned the 4k120 on the 6700 has a minimal crop??? It’s a 1.6x crop on top of its 1.5 APSC crop as is. It also needs tons of light to not be noisy. HUGE difference compared to the actual full frame E1. Also, the true biggest difference over the E1 is the 6700 having an EVF and mechanical shutter even if it’s something you don’t use. It’s another aspect that gives the 6700 some value as more of a hybrid to many users.
@DianaGladney
@DianaGladney 5 ай бұрын
Well, that's something Sony would have to fix with their naming scheme lol If I'm mentioning different camera models, I'm actually referring to different features across the different models that various cameras did or did not have based on what my audience uses. Can't control the names of the models though. As far as the dual base ISO, they're actually not present in the a6700 in the same way it is on the ZV-E1. Specifically testing the various modes on the camera at various settings, the results pan out. I know you mentioned some other things but different strokes for different folks. Some things you'll personally enjoy from a preference standpoint but something like a weaker EVF, although present and brighter is still a not something I'd go in-depth on-on this channel because the focus is video, not photos. Nevertheless, appreciate you checking out the video and sharing your thoughts!
