There might be a market for these. I have always wanted a good full frame camera without the advanced video for a lower price. Something like the A7CR with the high resolution without the video features like the A7RIV at half the price would be great. Better than paying for a Leica. Would be interesting if other companies would do something like this. I know people will want to be able to video record and would want more for something that small.
@slurpalurple Жыл бұрын
Better autofocus, interchangeable (and remotely affordable) lenses, same IQ as a $6000 Leica all with at least some attempt at looking different from every mainstream pro camera out there? That enough alone makes it unique and incredibly appealing.

The 'cripple' part of an A7CR would simply be the single card slot, and probably reduced-res rear lcd screen.... but it would make zero sense for Sony to cripple it even more, ESPECIALLY if they only drop the price $200 like the A7C....

Oh boy, you correct are about the SIII-FX3-FX30, but this habit has been going on a lot longer than that. The A9-A9II was the king of this particular ROI maximization format. They literally use the same parts for both, removed the SDI for SDII added Bluetooth and software and resold it.

It's smart from a business sense, but a little frustrating for customers hoping for big improvements each generation. But its working for them, and doesn't appear to be hurting sales at all.

The A7RV reused the sensor from the A7RIV. So we’re talking about a sensor from 2019. The body is part of what makes the A7RV so expensive. For example it has a 9.44M dot evf bs 3.58m on the A7IV. Multi angle lcd screen, 8 stop stabilization, etc. Dropping that sensor in an A7c body will give a lot of versatility. You could shoot in apsc mode and not worry about cropping. So you could buy all of the smaller cheaper apsc lenses and have a small package that could pack a large punch.
@ryanthompson4846 Жыл бұрын
I mean, why wouldn’t they offer the A7CR for like $3,000? Strip out the 8k video, put in a lower quality evf, no flip/tilt hybrid screen, and then the reduced thermal performance accounts for the rest of the pricing difference.
@OrdinaryFilmmaker Жыл бұрын
It's posible Ryan. Sony is very good at taking tech from one camera and trickling it down... and only one camera does 8K under $3000...

So should the Canon R5 mkii come with 60mp? Should the R5 mkii be considered cutting edge or just keeping up with Jones’s (Sony A7 R5)?
@OrdinaryFilmmaker Жыл бұрын
That's the discussion we are having. I don't care so much what other companies are doing. Rather, I care about the outcomes needed by the market the 5 series serves. Does it make sense to have 60MP, or does it make sense to have a R5 that is a high megapixel camera and even go further.

If they can't physically fit 2 card slots in a small full frame camera, they can give us 2 micro sd cards. For photo purposes if they can't do it for video. It's hard to justify paying $2k or more for a camera with just 1 card slot.
@nubscrub Жыл бұрын
It’s not an engineering issue, it’s a product line management decision. 2 cards = dump A7IV sales (their best-selling line), because despite the ergonomics snd customizable button differences, it would largely replace it. So seriously doubt it.

Micro HDMI, single card slot and the price makes sense. But, without the mechanical shutter, it will be basically unusable. That 61mp sensor has a slow readout speed. I think it will have the video capabilities of the A7RIV rather than the A7RV.

Here goes Sony Crashing Down the Turnpike Again, No Double Crash Diaster: Recent releases of Sony Cameras have been charcterized by serious OVERHEATING PROBLEMS: The Sony a7iv, The Sony ZV-E1 and the soon to be released, Sony a6700. And now these geniuses from across the Pacific have decided they'll up the ante by cramming higher megapixel sensors into an overcrowded midget camera body. Oh yeah, then we'll get the single card slot as a bonus, with them whimpering, "Oh, there's no room." Can u imagine how fast these two "new releases" will overheat & shut-down? Probably, seconds! Not even minutes. Active Cooling like in their cinema cams, the FX3 and the FX30? Oh no, the bean counters have already figured out" "That'll cost too much. Got to keep our profit margin high!" As for me and my dog team in Alaska: We're eagerly waiting on Panasonic-Lumix to release their rumored full frame-high megapixel S1HMark II camera with ACTIVE COOLING & Common Sense (Two Express Card Slots), etc. Go, go, go, Lumix Guys! 😎😎
