The a7iv is for someone who does proffesional work and the a7cii is the a7iv made compact for travel or a influencer to get great quality and all the extra AI will help someone who doesnt know much to be able to get good video with the help of Ai. I think also if you get deeper in the settings the IV got 10 bit vs 8bit on the cii which again, i think the iv is made to push the quality even more, in the first video comparison i think the iv looked more cinematic. Its so interesting to see how the Sony A7CII & Sony A7CR compared to cameras they are based on. IMO, I believe the A7CII is an "upgrade" compared to the Sony a7IV. For the Sony A7CR I see it as a "downgrade" from the Sony A7R5. Generally speaking of course.

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis My take on the CR vs the RV, is that CR has additional features and cheaper at the cost of a limited EVF and screen and one and card slot...that is the $900 question that people needs to put in the balance based on their specific use cases , I am not a pro, and for me, the portability and additional features (i.e. able to load my LUTs in camera) and the price differential, the CR is the better option

Mark, I watched all your videos in the last couple of days - I appreciate all the input. I get an educator's discount so I can get an A74 for $2248 (arrived yesterday). So, you are looking at like a $50 difference! I was thinking of getting two cameras and had ordered, received, returned the Sony A6700 (though I liked it, was thinking about waiting for the Sony A7Cii). Now, I can keep the A74 and pre-order the A7Cii (I had owned the A7C and thought the grip wasn't quite right and the EVF was weak - both updated in the A6700 and the A7Cii). The only lenses I own are the Sony 24mm F1.4 GM and the Sony 200-600mm G OSS (I shoot birds) so I have room for any direction. I was thinking of keeping the A74 just because of the Sony 200-600 lens, but I could get two Sony A7Cii camera (get one of each!). What do you think? What other lenses if I stay full frame (was thinking Sigma 28-70, Tamron 28-75)? Thanks!
@erg1450 Жыл бұрын
Robert, I have several GM lenses (including the 24 1.4) , and also have the Tamron 28-75, this lens is excellent and would be on the same level of the GM series. My favorite lenses (mostly family events and portraits) are: Sony 35 1.4, Sigma 50 1.4, Sony 135 1.8 (the best lens I've ever owned) and Sony 100-400 G (for sports). I shoot them with the A7IV, just ordered the A7CR to complete my set, they complement nicely (I think the new grip for the A7CII/CR will be a must when using large lenses), the CII with grip would be $2,350, the CR comes with the grip, so, price difference is $650, and you get better video at 4K P60 (1.1. top vs 1.5) and a ability to crop to your heart content, also, I tested extensively the A7RV. vs the A7IV and the IQ for portraits of the R sensor, in my opinion and observation, is a bit better than the A7IV
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Жыл бұрын
I love the A7iv so I am keeping mine as well. the a7cii or the r are great compliments. you have two great lenses. the sigma 28-70 or Tamron 28-75 are superb and you can’t go wrong there. of course there is the 24-70 GM II which is great but expensive. if you like shooting portraits, look at the 85 1.4 art from sigma. f you need wide for landscapes, the new 16-35 GM II is amazing

For 8 hrs of 4k60 - the best thing to go with is the fX30 (or FX3 if it’s in the budget). An A7Cii or an A7IV “might” be able to do it - but it’s asking a lot. If you get a Ulanzi cooling fan the A7Cii and A7IV are more viable options. Another possibility is a used A7SIII. That is still a great photo camera even at 12 mp and it won’t overheat in 4k60

Im just worried that the A7CII doesn't have 2 card slots. Thats my only worry. Do you think it'll be safe to use the Sony A7CII at weddings and stuff with one card slot? Can you set the creators app to backup photos to your phone in real time?
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis7 ай бұрын
you can’t really backup in real time to the creators app because it’s very slow. I’d rather get the A7iv for weddings with the two card slots, and the AI autofocus won’t come into play as much with weddings. it’s big with tracking vehicles animals, and birds. With people, the A7iv is excellent. For LUTs, you’re usually looking at an external monitor anyway and you can load LUTS into those. The A7RV actually has ai features (but not the LUT loading). A lot of people don’t care and use the one card slot because it’s rare that something goes wrong. But personally, I couldn’t take that chance.

@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Жыл бұрын
Honestly - you can't do wrong with either. The HDMI full size is for hooking up external monitors (usually for video). It's more reliable and less chance of breaking. You would use 1/8000 mechanical shutter when it's really bright outside because sometimes 1/4000 won't be enough. You can do that with electronic, but that might be an issue if it's a fast moving subject like a car (because you can get rolling shutter). With portraits it shouldn't matter much. I think you'll likely be better off with the A7C II because it has the latest tech, better autofocus, and is a bit cheaper. You probably won't mind the HDMI and you won't need the 2 card slots.

I don't understand why the low light performance is worse on the C2 when its the same sensor
@RaymondKPhotoVideography4 ай бұрын
Most probably it’s because of a different noise algorithm. The FX3 vs a7s3 has the same. On the FX3 it also results in a bit more noise, but also keeps a lot more details visible, whereas on the a7S3 the noise reduction is much more aggressive and a lot of details are lost. I guess Sony also tweaked the noise algorithm/noise reduction to be less aggressive on the a7cii compared to the a7IV

Where is the A6700. I'm sure it can kick both FF camera's ass. Just kidding. But the a6700 is also one of the new kids on the block. BTW. When going aps-c mode on the A74 and CII, you are using a smaller portion of the FF sensor and that makes sense when it comes to rolling shutter. One thing I'd like Master Mark to check out and make a video on is the improvement in the sensor in the a6700 and how it is getting closer to the FF sensors in all aspects. You are right, this is exciting time, but there is one issue, $$$$. One more thing, the A74 is now badly in need of an update as the CII and a6700 outclass it in the autofocus area. That is the one area I love, the ability to follow planes, trains and automobiles, animals and insects. I can almost do without many other features in lieu of the Ai autofocus. And as many have said, no one has suffered from an SD card failure. My Nikon F2A did fine as I could load only one roll of film in the body.

awesome review and comparison. I think Sony is confusing the heck out of everybody with that many bodies and not enough firmware upgrades. On top of that, there are more headaches from Canon and Nikon as all have similar bodies. I want to upgrade my camera and leaning towards the A7IV, Really like the 33mp sensor and Dual Card, but The headache is A7CII with the new tracking. Canon R6II and the new Nikon ZF is super nice with at least dual card slots. Why Sony, Why? Sony seems to always disappointing with many lacking features that can be put in. Anyway. sorry for the long comment. would it be possible to make a comparison of the R6II, Nikon Zf and A7CII?

I give you some advice. If you want to buy a7 iv, buy it. Trust me, you will not have regrets. In general, the sony cameras, especially their software is well done and robust so rarely you need an upgrade. A7 iv is a killer like some nikon and canon cameras. But if you want sony, go ahead, buy some nice samyang or sigma cheaper lenses and shoot. You will have fun. Don't think too much about the gear. A7 iv is already a great and powerful camera. I did have the sony a7 iii and oh boy, i miss that camera so much because of all the things I managed to create. I would buy the a7 iii again😅😅. So a7 iv is even better.....easy choice.

Hi Mark, can one compensate the rolling shutter in post production? Thx!!😊
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis6 ай бұрын
if you run the gyro-data through catalyst prepare or gyroflow, yes. But these two cameras have workable rolling shutter. if you’re really concerned about it, just use apsc crop mode - rolling shutter is much better that way

I’m reading that the EFS (electronic first shutter) affects the quality of bokeh. Can you test that?
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Жыл бұрын
it just means that sometimes when lenses are wide open (ex f1.4) first curtain shutter can cause bokeh balls to be cut in half with a slow sensor. So you will be fine with this camera as it has a fast sensor

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Is there any reason why Sony would elect to use this with the A7cii instead of being able to shoot mechanical up to 1/8000 like you can on the A7iv?

How does the cII compare to the 7IV with big lenses. Is the 7CII okay in handling while using a 70-200 or even 200-600?
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis4 ай бұрын
Yeah - it's fine. Its grip is still decent and with big lenses like that, you support by holding the lens anyway.

I really notice the problem with a5 C ii in video low light. Obviously, no one will use the 100k iso but you can clearly see that from 32k the a7 iv has cleaner image and less of that green look that sony is trying to get rid of for years. In my experience I will rather have a cooler image cause its easy to edit rather than that green look on the skin. Nightmare in edit😂😂

3:08 i don't know why but the footage from the A7iv looks much cleaner in low light situation

Yup. Much better on the A7iv. A7iv is better than the FX3 and A7SIII on iso below 12,800.
