Love the idea of you offering consultation calls! And there definitely is a gap in the market for this service. I’ve had a few calls with older guys. They were very thankful at the end of the call but it always feels a bit weird giving them advice when I’m 10-15 years younger than them. At least I can shed light on the current marketing platforms; plus, networking in general will never go out of style. I’ll be happy to recommend some people your way that you might have a bigger impact on with your experience.

Any chance you can give a breakdown of the LiveU and its cost structure? E.g. Why LU300 vs the less expensive Solo, overview of ongoing cost (Lrt subscription, and mobile data packages from live u). Loving your vids. Thanks
@CrankyCameraman2 ай бұрын
It is expensive but less than a sat truck. I think the end user agreement restricts disclosing pricing. The Solo product is specific to web steaming, there is too much delay for live tv with talkback. The broadcast units are quite a bit more costly to operate. As a freelancer working for multiple and unknown destinations there is an annual support contract , mine is due in March. Or you can lease with a flat monthly fee + day use fee for each 24 hour interval. For a local tv station that always sends to the same receivers I think they can opt out of the LU support and LU cellular service entirely but I’m not sure.
@SportFlow2 ай бұрын
@@CrankyCameraman The Solo can only do RTMP and SRT. The Broadcast units (LU300 and upwards) can be decoded in a hardware receiver with SDI outputs at the TV station. They also have adjustable delay, whereas the solo has only two predefined delays. And some other features.

How do you keep all of that wind out of the audio? The live audio sounds great!
@CrankyCameraman2 ай бұрын
Thanks. There is some heavy processing at the station but the right mic and windshield is essential. Most talent prefer a lav, as the wind picks up I move from the stock lav windscreen to a larger furry shield. More wind, swap to a stick mic with foam windshield. If talent doesn't want to hold the stick, a shotgun mic overhead or under.

It replaced my Amira. Love the Amira but my clients are Sony centric. AF, IBIS, VariND, lower power consumption, light weight, a better image vs the Fx9 but still "matches." It's a great camera if you can make the financials work. There is an established user base of working pros that have moved to it, I know as many have contacted me directly vs on social. I think it's close to the ideal owner / op camera on the mid range, as you've seen it's adaptable for corporate, documentary, commercial, feature, news gathering, live shots. Native PL and native locking E mount vs adapters is excellent.

@ I don’t disagree with you. As an owner op working up and down a range of assignments, news, Corporate, commercial, sports. I don’t want to own and operate a different system for each assignment. Consistently is the winner as the jobs stack up and the sleep deprivation hits. Spending more money on a lesser system vs using gear that is paid off and meets or exceeds client requirements.
@PrestonGladd2 ай бұрын
@@CrankyCameraman the problem isn’t the cinematographer, an award-winning cinematographer could show up, but because the client doesn’t know who they are, they assume that because they don’t have a fancy looking camera the results will be bad. FYI, this wasn’t me knocking the equipment you have, this was me knocking the industry on forcing unknown, yet capable videographers and cinematographers to spend loads of money on gear that’s not really needed just so that they look fancy for the client.
