Update Dec 22 2015: I have got this device for almost a year now and I had no issues with it at all. I hope it will not make trouble in the future, as well. Update May 1st 2017: I am still using the device. It also sits right beside my bed. For the last couple of months it was not being used that often, though. No hardcore-testing-phase at the moment. :P Update October 22nd 2017: The CD-Player is still going strong. I actually appreciate the USB-feature on this thing now. It is a lot easier and less wasteful to just put music on a USB-drive and plug it in, rather than burning a new CD everytime you make a new playlist or discover new songs! Update July 1st 2018: Still satisfied.

How does it turn off complitely and not always on standby mode?

@@user-er2xl6rh5p It doesn't. You have to unplug the power cord for it to shut down completely. You will want to do that. It emits some noise when kept it standby.

the pgm mode means programme which you can programme the cd player by choosing the tracks on the cd player that you like instead of listening to the whole cd

Absolutely awesome unit! You could convert your old cassettes to MP3 and put them on a USB stick to play through this unit as i a have done with old recorded talk shows. The low wattage was also a buying factor for me

Dhinchak Dinesh Thank You! The audio is pretty good for a device that uses speakers this small. With increasing volume it gradually loses its resolution in audio but all in all it has got a nice well-balanced sound spectrum. That applies to it whilst playing CDs as well as audio from USB, Bluetooth etc. edit: After replying to your comment I listened to an album by muse on this CD-player via my dt770s (80-Ohm) in order to compare it to my phone, pc and iPod. Compared to the Phone and probably the iPod it lacks some dynamic-range in the mids.....but I'll be honest, if I used cheaper headphones I might not even notice a difference. :)

Good review, but one minor error @ 8:25 the NFC! Your description of the NFC function is wrong, because it assists pairing of NFC devices faster and easier. NFC pairs Bluetooth, so it is very useful. You did not describe the sound quality and demonstrated the Mega Bass function and how it affected the sound. Cassettes! Yes I grew up with compact cassettes and had a lots of radio cassettes from Panasonic, Sharp, Sanyo, Hitachi, Toshiba, & Akai, some thing big 16cm woofers, soft touch, but, unless the cassette was recorded on a hifi deck on Chrome or metal, the heads aligned properly, the sound will always be poor compared to CD. Think of comparing VHS video to Blu-ray! I have a cassette in my car and never use it. Yes it is a personal thing. Overall a good review and you have shown most the functions.

+dblr3000 Thanks. Unfortunately I did not. Actually, I did not know of the app, at all. Although, if this app is just a music player, you can just connect your phone or tablet to the Sony via Bluetooth. Then all the audio of your device is played by the Sony.

thanks for the great review. very helpful. I read somewhere that a user was able to use 6 AA batteries in the RS60 model instead of C batteries due to the configuration of the battery port. Would this be possible for this model too

It might be possible if you get your hands on a special spacer, designed for that purpose. I have not tried it out, though.

+icecreamgecko I ended up buying this and I tried out the AA batteries. It works great! You can just insert the batteries where the C batteries would go and the springs and metal end plate will hold everything in position perfectly well. :) I'm guessing if you thumped the boombox down hard the batteries might move out of position but otherwise this solution has worked well for me. AA batteries are much cheaper than C and are easily available as rechargeables too.

These model haven't seen in Italy good machine..... if you're looking for something with a tape the Sony CFD S401 made for Japan only but you can import It talking into account the costs.... beware of the voltage it's 110 volts AC need a step down adapter in countries have 220 volts AC

+Pam Stevenson If the mp3-file is on an USB-stick, a CD, or played via Bluetooth connection then YES. Just keep in mind that if the files are on an USB-stick, the unit plays ALL of the audio files on the stick. Try to put your audiobook on a completely empty one. Greets, ~Gecko

Have you tried keeping the bluetooth button pressed? It enters the pairing mode this way and should show up on your phone, when it is scanning for devices.

hi i got a machine 6 months ago i was very pleased with the depth of sound, for some reason the machine went wrong, because it was still under warranty, argos replaced it, i was horrified to to find out the sound was completely different the sound is now thin no depth do you know if the circuitry is different, very unhappy with the machine now

Is it durable? My Sony CFD-S50 stopped working after five-six months. I"ll most likely get this CD player. Should I get warranty?

I have got mine for almost one and a half years, now. I had no issues whatsoever. Still, if you have the opportunity to get it with a separate warranty I would go for one. You can always have that one "lemon car" :)

I’m thinking of buying a CD player. Should i buy this or sony cfd-s70. This zs-rs70 has 2 times bigger price. So compared to the cfd-s70, is this zs-rs70 really worth the price?

If you do not need the additional features of the RS70, you are certainly better off going for the cheaper option. Back when I bought mine I really wanted it to have that Bluetooth-connectivity and the USB-port. If you only need it to play CDs and the radio then the CFD-S70 should be sufficient. You can still connect your phone to it via the 3,5mm audio-in. While the speakers of the S70 have got a bit less power (2x 1,7W vs. 2x 2,3W) it will probably sound the same when you plug it into decent speakers... which I would also have to do haha. I cannot say anything about the build- or audio-quality of the two since I do not have the CFD-S70 at my hands. In the end they probably use the same cheap chinese components that they put into all of their products, nowadays. P.S.: If you want to stay within the budget but can do without a cassette-deck you might want to check out the ZSP-S50. Slightly more powerful speakers and a USB-port in exchange for the cassette. :)
