A couple hidden nuggets: 1. Next to the battery slot is a capped spare battery compartment. Does need a thin flat object like a knife blade to be opened though, but caaarrefull! 2. Whilst recording in video mode pressing the Photo button at the top rear takes a snapshot 3. It can be plugged in/recharging whilst recording 4. Using the hdmi cable you can plug into a smart tv or a monitor for playback or as a recording viewscreen

I have 2 of them and this is the best review of this camera on KZbin. One thing you did not talk about is that you can edit what you record in the camera before you put it in your PC. I record 5 to 10+ hours out of my kitchen window to see all of the birds and squirrel that visit my feeders. I edit the best clips about 2 or 3 mintues of the action and then make the video in Windows Movie Maker. I think you should make a part 2 review about this. If I coul blog as good as you I would.

That “white fabric plastic” is an anti-static bag. Most are clear or grey, but Sony uses a anti static bag with special cloth that also protects the product. Also, I am buying this camera today in 2023. Lolz! My Reasons: 1. I can hook a battery pack (I have 2 Mopys) to it for a very long uninterrupted recording. 2. Real image stabilization on the physical lens (not a digital stabilization) so nice. 3. The zoom. 4. Cheap. 5. No Wi-Fi or Bluetooth or subscription none sense. 6. I heard from multiple reviews it’s own outer microphone is very good. I don’t want to have to buy a separate mic.

Just ordered one Mike, and I'm a very fussy art creative when it comes to tech on my low budget! So thanks mate, I really appreciate time u took making this video, helped me a lot with menu settings and functions even before mine arrives next few days! I'll prob set it up exactly as you have to start with as I don't know much about camcorders, except my research online! I'm a night so owl so It was gud to see it in use at night! And white balance info great to know! I was torn between this and the Panasonic in same price range, but I know this can create automatic highlights vid from footage, so that made my mind up! Only downsides I saw in other vids were 1) No external mic Jack, but inbuilt mic sounded when you was outside, so I'll do for my current starting needs! 2) Feels very cheap, but for the £198 I paid what can anyone expect! From my research it seems to be the best on market for this price range, along with the Panasonic! so I'm more than happy as it's only for everyday creative casual use to get me into basic video utube/art projects with people in London. I can upgrade when I need to. Really appreciate this video Mike, I've subscribed! 👍

Built in usb plus included cable plus included wall plug lets you keep charging via wall socket while recording 3. Hdmi port and included cable lets you connect to a monitor while recording 4. There is a slot next to the battery slot for a spare battery, but the insert has to be removed. 5. Pressing the photo button located on top rear of unit while in video recording mode takes a photo (except in the highest video quality setting) 6. Monitor screen flips around gor selfie view

@@MikesWorld1 I am a trainspotter as well and currently using a higher end model the Handycam HDR-CX675, or in my case the HDR-PJ675 since it has a built in projector. Brilliant review!!! I am a still photographer of many years experience but when I bought this camera I was in another, very strange world. The instructions given by Sony were the usual 2 page stuff which might be ok if you are familiar with a camcorder but when you do not know what some of the setting mean they are quite inadequate. Your review went through the menu in excellent detail and gave me confidence to get into it. Now I can adjust the settings with confidence. You should work for Sony. Now doing test to see if I should use high quality or standard to reduce storage space (how brave is that). Many thanks for your review.😃

Before I bought a CX405 I had the CX240 and I thought the lens was probably lacking in sharpness. But the CX405 seems to have the same lens and it is wonderfully sharp. So in retrospect, the difference seems to have come from the bitrate. Used at full 50 mbps it is stunningly sharp. When I record UHD on my better cameras, you need 80+ mbps (for H.264) to do better. That was the big lesson. Resolution, compression and data-rate all need to work together. The CX405 is still a nice wander-around camcorder to have with me.

Mike thanks for the review. I was planning in purchasing this model. I have a question: are you able to store the footage (video) on your computer? Is it a simple thing to do or do you have to keep buying additional SD cards ( also what brand/memory do you recommend)
@twistybonks2 жыл бұрын
Correct me if I am wrong but I thought you can put the memory card into your computer through a Memory Card Reader and move the files over. Format your card after you have what you need, formatting the car will give you an empty card again
@MikesWorld12 жыл бұрын
It accepts microSD cards. You can buy a microSD card with a microSD card reader. Just create a folder on your computer to dump the video to, put the card back in your camera, delete the footage, then use the card again. One tip though, DO NOT FORMAT THE CARD TO DELETE FOOTAGE. This is a common mistake most people make. Doing this will eventually corrupt your card. Here is why. When you format the card it shows as being empty but its not. All of the data is still there, you just can't see it. As you record new video, it overwrites existing data. However, as it overwrites, it occasionally misses bits of data. This causes data fragments that build over time until it corrupts your card. Eventually , the card won't work or you'll lose footage. Best practice is to actually delete the footage in the camera. That actually deletes the data. If you use the card a lot, you should do a full format of the card in your computer about once every two months. To do that, put the card in the PC, go to My PC and find the drive that is the card, right click, and click on FORMAT. When the box opens, uncheck the QUICK FORMAT box. This will do a full format of the card and erase all data. Doing this will keep your cards working well for many years. I still have an 8GB SanDisk SD card I bought in 2010 that works perfectly.

As both a creator of KZbin videos and a consumer. I have one suggestion for you. Put the same affiliate links on this video as well as the one on your secret battery compartment for this camera. If you do more videos on this camera in the future include all the same links to those videos as well. The reason is because as a consumer I watch many videos on this camera and then go back to find affiliate links. I did not remember which video you created had the other links to this camera. If you have the same links on both videos I do not need to remember which video you produced to find all the links. Remember you can change the description in KZbin studio without it being a problem. We know you can not change the video itself without it being taken down and losing the momentum your video has built up. I actually went back to your two videos to buy an SD card for this camera through your links but was surprised you had no links for an SD card to make the camera work in XAVC-S resolution. I suggest you include a link for the card you used to film in this camera. Make sure it will work with the XAVC S format which is the higher resolution quality this camera does. I was looking for a link to it so I would not have to find the information myself. I did use your link to the camera and then went and bought a Lexar card so if you see on your associates site on Amazon on 10-01-2023 that was me. Hope the suggestions help you good luck with your channel. Ron From Super8tovideo

I got a question: can you change the aspect ratio of the video to 4:3? Also what size are the lens, like I would like and try to buy some lens for it like fish eye or something. Is it possible for this cam corder or nah?
@MikesWorld110 ай бұрын
It does not shoot 4:3. 720p, 1080i, & 1080p. It does not have a thread for extra lenses.

It has a 48mm thread size I believe. Can buy a step up ring and put a cheap wide angle lens on it. There's videos of people doing that. I have this camcorder and purchased a 48mm step up ring to 49mm and adding a UV lens for protection so the actual camera lens doesn't get dirty or scratched. And can put a lens cover on it.

Excellent review! Thanks! I'm looking at getting one to replace the JVC standard def handicam I have. Update: Got my cam and you're right. It's an amazing camera and works great for home movies.

Hey Mike, do you think I'd be able to transfer my videos to my MacBook Pro? also, which editing software should one use ? regards, Myles

whats the difference between 1080i and 1080p?
@MikesWorld13 жыл бұрын
1080i is interlaced frames and 1080p is progressive frames. Broadcast tv is still interlaced but nearly all TV's plus computers, phones, tablets, etc use progressive frames. You should be shooting and editing in 1080p unless it's for over the air broadcast. Shooting progressive and then airing it interlaced is why so many shows look bad on TV. You would be fine using a MacBook Pro. My suggestion is checking out Adobe.com and signing up for Adobe Premiere for $30/month if you are doing a lot of editing. Another good program is Blackmagic's DaVinci Resolve.

Very good review! I have many cameras but considering getting a camcorder to help with my KZbin channel, the zoom on this seems very smooth, unlike many of my bridge cameras! 👍

Hello from Enid, OK! I see this camera has an HDMI out. So can it send a clean HDMI image to an ATEM mini? Also, is a way it can be plugged into power instead of running on the battery, such as an AC adapter?
@MikesWorld1 Жыл бұрын
Yes to both. You can send it clean or with the on-cam display. It’s also switchable between 1080i, 1080p, and 720p. It’s the only camera this cheap that can do that. You can plug the USB of the camera into a big portable power bank and it will run nearly all day on that instead of the included batter.

can i directly connect it to PC as Video out and record directly to PC while making videos inside a room. and can I use it without battery.
@MikesWorld1 Жыл бұрын
You can use the included USB power adapter to run it without a battery. You can not connect it directly to a PC for live streaming as you are describing. You can, however, connect the HDMI cable to a HDMI capture card and plug that card into the PC to do it. They are pretty cheap.
