Thanks for the compliment! To answer you're question, yes it does. In good lighting the camera's automated settings work perfectly and is very accurate when choosing the right white balance with sharp photos.

I'm not aware of any bass problems on the HX5 but on the HX20 you can adjust the microphone levels from normal to low for concerts.

Thank you! Which camera did you own before? If you had a HX9V, it may not be worth the upgrade but that really depends on you. If you want the extra zoom and a higher megapixel sensor and a few new features such as clear image zoom then you will be more than happy with it. If you're a newcomer then definitely yes

The difference between the two is that the HX30 has wifi and the HX20 doesn't have wifi. Everything else is the same.

Thanks! If you want excellent image quality with good low light performance, I would say get the NEX-5N. However, if you want a long zoom and a smaller body, the HX30. Just depends on what you value more.

Thanks for the compliment. In my opinion the video quality is better on the Sony. The image quality looks to be on par from what I have seen. It really comes down to features though, they both share the same optical zoom but the Panasonic has a touch screen and the Sony has more length with clear image zoom and a whole bunch of other features.

Yeah you can. Its a function called background defocus where the camera takes two photos and combines them together to get the blurry background.

I can't really comment on the other brand cameras since I haven't used them all, but the Sony DSC-RX100 has been well regarded to be the best compact camera to date.

Yeah its good for portrait photos. You can also get those DSLR type looks with this camera. Its called background defocus and works really well.

If its on the lens, you could probably use a lens cleaner to get rid of it which can be purchased from most camera stores. If there is a problem with the zoom, it would probably be best to take it to a service center so they can properly assess it.

As far as I know, you can't get adapters but what you can do is record the audio separately and sync the video and audio together in post.

Of course I'd recommend the Sony camera =.P but mainly because of its features like clear image zoom, sweep panorama, etc. I also like the higher resolution screen, the design with the solid grip and just the layout of it all. The video quality is pretty good for this camera too. My suggestion is to try them both out in a store and see which one handles better.

Based on what I have read, it looks to be the better camera with regards to zoom. Features such as picture, effects, 10fps continuous shooting, hand held twilight, hdr, sweep panorama are just a few.. I know Panasonic has some of these features as well and maybe a few different ones so its a bit of a toss up to see which one is better. Might be best to go to a camera shop and trying them both out there.

John, thanks for this video. A friend bought this camera and all of her still shots look very red. Around the 2:13 mark you flip through some brightness menus, etc and I think her answer may be in there. Have you experienced any overly red pictures? Thanks.

I haven't experienced any overly red pictures. Press the down button on the control wheel and make sure all the settings there are right in the middle.

Hi. 1. Yes it would be worth the extra spend. 2. The image quality is better on the HX20 because of the updated sensor and better lens. 3. Sorry I don't have any experience with the Panasonic and Canon cameras.

I would say go for the HX20 if budget permits it. The video on the new cam seems better than the HX9 with more vibrant colors and sharpness. HX20 has pros would be its long zoom range, new features such as clear image zoom, picture effects and improved stabilization. Cons would be buttons are a bit small for larger fingers and I can only take a photo with one hand if I'm using flash because the pop up flash occupies the space where my other hand would be. Thats all the cons i think of atm.

Does this camera let you set (manually) aperture, exposition time, and all that things you can set up manually in a pro camera? I've read some semi-advanced cameras manufactured by sony, that came with the possibility of change those parameters, but in a limited way. In a pro camera, I can change aperture value for any number, but it seems that in this new models you can only select "manually" 2 or 3 fiexd values. I don't know if you've understood my question, my english is too bad. Thanks :)

Yes there are. The buttons are a bit small for my liking to be honest and low light performance compared to other cameras may not be the best. And lastly, its a bit pricey compared to the other cameras in its class

Hi, I am using this model camera for the past one month. There's little bit dust's on the lens.. Also have finger print mark of my kid. single halo mark is seen while taking a image focusing the sunlight. And my kid shaked the zooming part while taking a snap. Just took the HX20 on Holiday, I found video and low light pictures are much better than the TZ30. The TZ7 was brill for low light but then it all went bad in future models. Compact camera and clear zoom, I can't rave about the Clear image zoom but take a DLSR if you really need to zoom so far. Get a spare battery as with the Lumix.

The difference is that the HX30v has wifi and transferjet capabilities and the HX20 doesn't have this feature. Other than that its the same camera

Compared both the HX20v and the Lumix ZS19 (ZS20 minus gps) for a month. While I loved the set-up of the Lumix and wanted it to be "the one," found that the Lumix colors, although brighter, were not accurate and did not stand up to magnification as well as the HX20V.

No you can't view the image via USB whilst filming video. You can only do this via the HDMI.
