@@daleboettcherphoto Haha it totally is. We use the Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art and while the images are beautiful, it definitely makes you work for it!
@MatthewSaville4 жыл бұрын
@@daleboettcherphoto Yeah, considering the /insane/ coma of the Sigma 20 at 1.4-2.8 in the corners, this Sony G lens is clearly taking the lead in the corners, even though the Sigma is pretty dang sharp in the center. Also, the Sigma 14-24 2.8 DG DN is an insane lens, too. Really loving it on the A7R4, it's smaller and ligheter than the 14 1.8 Art and 14-24 2.8 Art DSLR version, ...and yet sharper at 2.8 in the corners. Witchcraft! If you don't need to shoot at f/2, don't bother with any primes, that Sigma is nuts. (And there's allegedly another 2.8 zoom coming, too.) I'm only left wondering, if this is a "G" lens, ...do we have a 20 1.4 "GMaster" coming someday too? Or maybe Sigma will start making FE primes too, now that they've got a 14-24 FE and 24-70 2.8 FE.

Great review on the 20mm1.8G! Recently did some filming at night. Keeping the iso as low as possible and using a light setup, the primes were sharper, more vivid with better color, than the zooms. Thus, my purchasing of the 20mm1.8G. Within the return period. So, still testing the 20mm1.8 against the 16-35GM and 12-24GM. Daytime usually have no issues. But if the lens performs better during night, it's a keeper.

@Nateinthewild4 жыл бұрын
I think they're comparable and both have strengths and weaknesses. I much prefer the 20mm field of view, but f/1.4 is an amazing aperture for astro, so you have to weigh the options and decide which is more important to you. Nate, I think you have done a fantastic job showcasing the low light capabilities of the new Sony 20mm F1.8 GM. I liked the video and subscribed to your channel. Do you think the low light capabilities of the 20mm F1.8 GM outweigh the 16-35mm F2.8 GM for outdoor low light video conditions drastically? I do a lot of low light virtual walk tours with the 16-35mm F2.8 GM right now (Using A7iii body + Zhiyun Crane 2 Stabilizer). I usually set the focal length to around 17mm or 18mm to compensate for the Sony 4K video crop and Adobe Premiere software stabilization crop while still providing a true virtual wide angle experience. Despite being absolutely blown away by the 20mm F1.8, I am concerned it is simply not wide enough for my style of videos. I definitely welcome your opinion if you know any better alternative. Anyway I would greatly appreciate if you could check out my recent videos and provide HONEST feedback. Subscribe if you enjoy :)

I own the a7C and did buy the 20mm. I enjoy both at 75 years. Here is my question - headed to Alaska in August. You convinced me that the 20mm will do wonders for landscapes (I shoot in the desert of AZ). Would you also take the 24-105mm on the off chance you will be able to see possibly a clear view of a bear and whales are a given? Hope you will respond - thanks very much for this very informative video.
@Nateinthewild Жыл бұрын
Hi there! I LOVE the 20mm, but it's very much a specialty lens, I would not recommend it as your only lens, or as a do-everything lens. I would absolutely recommend the 24-105 for that trip, and if you're wanting to photograph bears you should bring a 100-400 also. Please do not try to get close enough to the bears to photograph them at 100mm.

I have been using the FE 28 F2 on my a7iii for just about everything lately, (astro, landscape, walk around) given its price, size and performance. Can you comment on / recommend replacing it for this lens? Is there reason to own both? Judging by your closing comments, the 20 seems like it will be a permeant fixture on your a7iii... Have you purchased it? Is it everything you hoped?
@Nateinthewild4 жыл бұрын
Great question! I also own the 28mm f/2, and I have to say that after using the new 20mm I will be selling the 28. It’s like comparing a Lamborghini to 1968 Chevelle. They’re both fun to drive, but it’s pretty clear which is better.
@DJKISSchitown4 жыл бұрын
I have the exact scenario. I have been using the 28 F2 on the A7ii and think the 20mm will be the next best for myself and traveling. I also like the ability to not have to move out on shots when I need it a bit wider. I prefer primes when shooting. This will give me the opportunity to do a bit of video as well with the A7ii.
