To get the "s-cinetone" look on my a7iii and a6300, I used the custom profile made by extrashot. It made my cameras give a "filmic" look straight out of the camera without me having to stress about 8 bit color science. Matching cameras became easier as well since all I have to focus on is the white balance and exposure. You should give it a try!

@@SianCKB HLG is similar to LOG in a sense that you can color grade like log. The only difference is that the profile has more baked in colors than slog.

Hey there Mike. If anyone is interested, the 70mm SmallRig NATO rail works perfect on top of the FX30 using the two top holes closest to each other. It’s about $10 and a bit sleeker than the Kondor Blue alternative.

Hi, awesome video. I’m a 6400 owner and want to upgrade to fx30 because I Edit a lot using speed ramps and want a 4K 60 or 120 fps assuming the crop. Do you think is worth it just because of that? Does cinetone and Log3 bring me better quality than the 6400? Thanks in advance

If you’re heavy on color grading the 10bit is nice, and of course you’ll get a sharper image when recording 4k. Depending on the work you do, yeah it looks very good choice. But the cinetone profile and slog3 seem more of a luxury with flexible footage. If you want an upgrade, this is it.

Thanks for the great video! I thought the fx30 was going to be the perfect travel camera for video and stills, then no remote flash option. I was all in on the fx30 until now. Thanks for pointing that out. I think you are the first to mention it.

I have not attempted much to match them. But i use slog 3 on the fx30 and slog 2 on the a6400

Your videos are very helpful! I am looking to purchase the fx30 as my first and hopefully my final cinema camera…I don’t plan to change my camera as it could be a crazy rabbit hole to jump in. Do you think the fx30 is future proof? I plan to mainly shoot documentary style videos in hopes to land on Netflix. The fx30 price fits my budget perfectly. Should I grab one or wait a bit and see what comes out? Apologies for this crazy long message. Blessings!

I think the fx30 is surely future proof as it does a lot what is needed even for today. The only thing is it isnt netflix approved (yet). Only its bigger brother, the fx3 as of the moment. Right now it doesnt look like anything cinema wise is coming out for Sony in such a form factor. Can’t say this camera will be netflix approved but its a great way to get started in that world.

*As having the later and now having the FX30, I switch from the a6400 too the FX30 because it's a Video Recorder basically and the a6400 is a hybrid Camera. Overall it depends on what you are going for. Video or Hybrid*

Overheating problem is solved on my two a6300 , I shoot over 2h of 4k 25 without problem, this is not possibiel on a6400 ?

I guess it depends on your environment. For me, I’ve had the a6400 overheat after an hour and a half or so in 4k.

hey hey...I got them both and I used them at a wedding recently...shooting in 4k30p with the a6400 an 4k60p with the Fx30...I used S-cinetone with the FX30 and a neutral profile with the a6400 but I will try to match them better for the actual ceremony part...the a6400 didn't over heat during the 45 min ceremony. I put a Sony 18-105mm f4 OSS on the a6400 and I used a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 on the FX30 and I used them on monopods. I had a helper. He used the a6400 and I took the FX30...I browse thru the footage and I think I can use most of it! It sure was different than using conventional camcorders. I will keep them both for now. They are great in 4k and with some lighting (I used 3 LED Panels). I'm not sure I would use them for more than 1 hr non stop. For that I would use a camcorder like my old but trusted Canon XF300 or even the C100 mk2

I had the a6400 and the FX30 is a lot better to use (even if the actual pic quality is not much much better than the a6XXX line)...now I can use both cameras to get similar shots...I was previously using a Canon 90D which is ok. The battery life in the a6400 is crap but I have 7 batteries so no worries there. I will start the ediitng this week. I hope my 2nd videographer got me good shots. The a6400 didnt over heat (but I always pull the LCD screen away from the camera body) because it's Winter here in Canada!

I could have definitely emphasized that point of the a6400's poor battery life haha. Since the FX30 I've avoided shooting video on the a6400 as much as possible and keep it exclusively for photos.

Depends what you're going for. I stuck with Sony because of the lenses, autofocus and overall compactness. S5 II looks promising if you want that full-frame look and advantage. The camera itself looks very promising as a video centric hybrid camera. But who knows, never tried it out before.

ZVE10 is better for budget video shooters than A6400 due to catalyst browse gyro data stabilization and better heat management, all of these while being cheaper than A6400.
