Sony FX30 vs Sony A7IV - Don't make a mistake!

I’ve rented out both and ultimately decided to buy the fx30 and pair it with my fx3. The a7iv was great…until it wasn’t. It overheated on me exactly two times, and one time was already too many. I do mainly video and I believe the fx30 is built exactly for that, its just a reliable workhorse. If you’re a hybrid shooter then a74 is definitely the better choice. But if your thing is video, I think the fx30 is a no brainer

Fair enough, I’m loving my a7iv for what I need it, but others might need the FX30 more, it really depends 😊

The excellent video kept saying the image quality is much better on the A7IV… did you find that when you rented as this is the only thing stopping me getting the FX30 for studio video podcasting

@@smallbizdigitalmedia Anyone who says the A74 image quality is "Much better" than the FX30 simply doesn't know how to use cameras. The image quality of the fx30 is on par with the a74, a7siii, and fx3. Where you might find a difference is in low-light, and even then you'll only be able to notice it if you're constantly in situations where you literally cannot add more light to a scene. For studio work, the fx30 is absolutely a no-brainer. It will run hours upon hours and you'll have no overheating issues and you'll be in a controlled lighting environment so noise won't be an issue. I think unless you are doing hybrid work and are also a photographer, the fx30 is much more of a work-horse. Just my 2 cents

What about the horrible rolling shutter effect on the a7 iv and the zx30 has ability to download and LUT that you can apply to LCD screens both internal and external and you can choose to bake it into the image in camera if you so choose

Rolling shutter is showed in this video, everyone can judge for themselves, I’m also saying that in the video 😊 not sure if I mentioned about the LUTs, but probably did as well 😊

The different color science in the A7IV is news to me. I was sure it matched all post A7sIII cameras.

I wouldn’t necessarily say that it’s a completely different color science, but there’s definitely slight color shift.

Overheating on the A7IV is a Big problem, if you shoot 60p 4K a lot, it is frustrating, other than that it is quite awesome but not for profesional work, Not even in Mild Conditions. That is my personal experience. 24p 4K probably not as much as a problem.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I’ve not really experienced this, but might be because I usually use my FX3 for this sort of filming 😊 does this happen when recording in 60p long takes or even when it’s short takes?

Oh yeah and the overheating of the a7 iv… anyone doing these comparisons should be straight up and say for the serious video grapher its the fx30, no question. Arri alexa mini utilizes a super 35 sensor and so does the smaller red cams, the fomo over full frame is unfounded

Litterally what I said, I think FX30 is much better for if the video is the priority, the A7IV is better for hybrid. I chose A7IV cause I use FX3 as my main camera 😊

Arri and Red is cinema camera with purpose to work on stage with controled lighting, on lowest possibly iso. For run n gun scenarios full frame is better because of it lowlight capablity.

If you rig it out with a vmount battery those overheating problems will go away

Does crop factor in higher fps reduce resolution or sharpness or file size ?

I believe in modes without the crop, camera records from the full sensor, and scales it down to 4k, the crop makes it record in native 4k I believe so the sharpness and quality might be worse, and the noise might be higher. It doesn’t affect file size as this is affected by bitrates and codec. Hope that helps 😊

Hi ,nice video...i will buy a camera,,i like a7iv but with that overheat issues...mmm....I liked the cooler system of fx30 but no having mecanic shutter and i readed i may cause some artifacts on photos with electronic shutter,,its that true? thanks

The Sony A7IV shoots 60fps in 10Bit 'only' in Crop-Mode, which is important if you compare these two cameras

$700 over the FX30 means that it's not in the same price bracket.

You can buy A7iv lightly used for about $2k, but FX30 is basically only available new for only $200 less. Pretty similar.

@@josephwenda yeah but I'm brand new and I would never have bought a used unit. Only new prices are valid in this argument.
