Tips, Tricks & Mods to get the most out of your HDR-CX405 !!

There are after market extension bars u can get that attaches to the 1/4 20, tripod thread at the bottom of the camcorder. Some extend to 1 side while some extend to both. They come with a combination of cold shoe mounts or 1/4 20 tripod threads.

Wonderful. I was holding back getting this camcorder specifically because I want the ability to attach filter. I think this is a major omission by Sony. I just KNEW someone else had cracked the nut on how to do this. Thanks!

Nice job patiently explaining the battery and cold shoe opportunities. It’s great to see how - for mere pennies - you drive more value out of this awesome $200 hi-def handycam. The Sony 405’s zoom, along with my insta 360 GO cam, can gather 98% of the shots I need. $600 on another camera like the Sony AX53 might buy the remaining 2%. But so can a cold shoe light mount, along with a lens adapter (you show in the other video) and an ND filter, and I’ll be complete! If you haven’t already, Consider checking out that little hand-grip tripod with buttons and short cable that controls the handycam’s shooting, zoom, and power on-off. Newmowa SG-SR1-NMW. Near-perfect results at a budget price!

Super ideas. tHanks for posting this. I just filmed and posted a video....I bought the camera for the zoom feature and I'm more than happy. I had no idea the camera was so small and light.
@productreviewstv8129 ай бұрын
Thanks for commenting. Yes, it is delightfully small and light weights which makes it very easy to take around with you. If you're particularly interested in the zooming feature, you'll most certainly want to get yourself a small tripod and the remote control to give you great results.

Good idea to use a 49mm UV to protect the lens, even if you go nowhere near the sea the open/close shutter cover on these cameras is not great & dust will get through wherever you are.. but you should do this as soon as possible and epoxying a step-up ring onto your new camcorder will kill the warranty! A better way of doing it is to get a cheap 49mm filter & remove the glass.. the filter ring should be tight push-fit onto the front (may need to file inside of filter slightly or maybe not), allowing you to use 49mm filters without invalidating your warranty.

I love what u did with this and i just got 1 and attempting to imitate your build. Can you please give me tips on how to add the cover that you glued on. How did you know it was straight and flat? In case i want to add other lenses to it without warping the shot
@productreviewstv812Ай бұрын
I think you are speaking of the Step-up-ring. Just center it by eye and stand the camera up with the step-up ring facing downward while the epoxy dries.
@taolb10 ай бұрын
Could you theoretically attach a different lens onto the step up ring ? like a fisheye perhaps .

You could fit a Cokin A type filter housing with a 49mm adapter and use any number of Cokin special effect filters in it but i wouldn't bother trying to use an add-on lens, the image quality would be crap.

Do you know if glueing a step-up ring in order to attach a fish-eye lens is a good idea? My concern is whether the built-in lens being wide angle would cause distortion when trying to add another lens.
@productreviewstv81222 күн бұрын
All you need to do to find out is to hold the fisheye lens in front of the built-in camera lens and try it without gluing anything on.

Thank you for your excellent video! Do you have a source for the plastic cold shoe mount adapter with the metal leaf springs? I have searched eBay and the Internet several times to no avail. There are plenty of aluminum SmallRig and Neewer adapters but they do not appear to have the metal leaf springs.

I was curious is having the lens filter caused any glares in the footage since the filter has some space between the lens and filter.

Ok out of the blue and if you see this ... and I know you can't speak to this for every HDR handycam ... so .... are there threads on the HDRs that allow an adapter and or lenses to be added on .. IE wide angle or telephoto thanks

If your camera is not threaded on the front you can do the mod in this video with a step-up ring.

Hello, again my friend. Well, that is very clever. I see that you have been busy since last time when I mentioned that you should do a video that shows how you modified the CX405 lens so that you can attach lens filters over the lens. Still, don't forget my last request. How to use a cell phone or any other external mic system record and edit your sound rather than the on camera mic.
