Sony HT-S20R 5.1Ch Home Theater System (Unboxing Review + Installation)

Every modern LED TV needs a home theater system to truly enjoy any movie. While older televisions featured acceptable sound quality, present ones simply do not have sufficient space to fit in powerful speakers.
Sony has always been the best in consumer grade home theaters and with their latest lineup of soundbars, the fact still remains unchanged. Many Indian brands simply import low quality sound systems from China, rebrand and sell them at a price that lures consumers, not realizing the poor sound quality they will offer and nonexistent after sales service.
Audio quality is really impressive for this model. Mid range is clear, treble could have been better but since there are no tweeters in this model, high frequency response can be said to be good. Upper bass is very powerful and lower bass is good as well though it can be enhanced even further by placing subwoofer in the corner of a room. Sound systems need some time to burn-in so that they can provide best possible sound quality. At the price, this is the best sound system one can buy.

Brother I highly suggest you play FLAC format or WAV format audio file mandatory wired connection ( Bluetooth is too lossy ) to truely judge all sound system performance

Hii thanks for the detailed review. Just one clarity needed, will it deliver good music quality in 16 ft by 10 ft living room? For 16x10 feet, this sound system is sufficient but in case you want louder sound experience, you can choose models with higher wattage. It totally depends on your personal taste and usage.

Turn off 2.4 GHz band on all your WiFi routers and try to use 5Ghz band for as many devices you can so that speakers can receive signals without interference in 2.4Ghz band. Wireless transmission always has risk of interference and it just cannot be eliminated completely, only reduced.

Is home theater mein Dolby atmos nahi hai, but isse double budget mein bhi yeh feature nahi hai upper models mein, par haan dolby effect poora milega because yeh home theater specifically smaller rooms ke liye designed hai.

i bought a Presonous Eris E3.5 Studio monitors for 12000RS, and the speakers now accidentally producing cracking noise and not working. went bad within jsut 1.5 years. not expected from the company. also its PCB is not fairly repairable.

That's the reason I avoid higher end brands because there is simply no service support available for such products in many cases, and even if they do provide a center location, repairs are costlier than the product itself. Many brands pot their PCBs to prevent any repairs. Nowadays most cars, motorcycles and even generators have potted PCBs which tend to go bad when the capacitors fail and sadly we just cannot replace them. Stick to consumer brands and protect your electronics well with proper safety devices. Overheating is another factor that ruins electronics much earlier because many brands just don't put a cooling fan.

There are different audio modes given in the sound system. You can use them to get audio in surround speakers as well. Ideally a movie should have 5.1 channel audio so that you can really enjoy surround effects. As of now, Bluetooth does not support 5.1 audio on any sound system or smartphone so only mono or stereo channel audio can be transmitted through Bluetooth devices to the home theater.

Ideally rear surround speakers hamesha front speakers se at least 2 feet oopar lagte hai, isse surround effect better aata hai. Cables aur lambi hoti toh thoda lower bhi mount ho jaate surround speakers, but door beechmein aa raha tha. DAV DZ350 jo main apne computer mein use karra hoon, ismein maine ideal height pe surround speakers ko mount kara hai.

My drawing room is 15'x15' and I feel that this is loud enough for music and videos but some movies have really low volume so only in that case volume may feel a bit low, but it works well for most movies which have good quality audio. For your room size I'd recommend S40R which is 600 watt version of this series and it should be sufficient.

Bohot log claim karte hai ki kuch brands mein saste mein deepest bass milta hai, but jaise hi aap volume badaoge, waise hi distortion aane lag jaata hai aur bass response weak ho jaata hai. Sony ke kisi bhi model mein distortion nahi hai, even at full volumes, but bass and trebel response depend karta hai ki kaunsa model lete ho. Jitna higher end model loge utni hi better sound quality milegi.

Dont buy the base is very bad instead, i had sony,philips etc waste of money, you go for logitech z906 if you are a serious music and gaming buff with 5.1 dolby certified and thumping base.

You are comparing Logitech Z906 which costs 29k to Sony HT-S20 which costs merely 15k and claiming that the former offers better bass? For double price it is obvious that Logitech will give better bass and in the same segment Sony HT-S500RF offers deepest thumping base with exceptional treble and double RMS power of 1000 watts! Unlike Logitech which has poor high frequency response due to lack of tweeters, not to mention that this Logitech set is notorious for dying right after the warranty period, service for which is not provided by Logitech unless it is in warranty period. Western gamers have burned their hands and Z906 is still being sold in india because consumers here are still unaware. Older model of this was equally bad and that's the reason Logitech Z906 is a really bad choice. I don't endorse any brand that doesn't provide after sales service for their products. High resolution home theaters are available from Sony and many high end brands as well, but most of the consumers never look farther.

Most Indian companies sell cheap quality Chinese products at high prices. People get sentimental due to slogans like Make in India, Vocal for local, etc. and make wrong choice. I support indian companies that really make good quality products in India, but if we have to buy rebranded Chinese goods, it is much better to buy a premium brand which offers better quality and service.
