Should also note for most people, that using the 25p and 50i, the 25p is great for slow shots or still shots (Weddings for example), 50i will always generally be better for fast action sports.

Hi, that was when using tape. You can use a memory card when using something like the Sony HVR-MRC1. I've got a video of that in the same channel.

Fantastic overview. Thinking of picking something like this up used. I understand it is old, but it seems quite powerful and flexible, more so than a similarly priced modern consumer camcorder ($500 range). The only issue for me is the tape recording. I understand the quality is nice, but having to playback scenes and record them in software manually is time consuming. I don't plan on taking it outside so I am curious how the HDMI output compares. I have a capture card so I would be running it into that. Looks like I have more research to do..

this camera actually can also record to CF memory cards with the flash drive recorder that plugs into the back over the battery.

I'm in need of Help with my HVR-Z7U ...I have no audio coming into the camera using the onboard microphone in XLR 1 or 2. I just got this Camera and wondering if I'm not setting something. I'm using the meter ( channel 1 and 2 ) on the display, when I turn the camera on I would think I would see this level come up....but nothing. ....

I like everything about this camera, the only thing that bothers me is using a tape for recording. WHY a tape and not a SD card ??? Because of this feature I don't think I am going to buy this video camera. Thanks for the video !!!

Camera uses compact flash cards. The recording unit is detachable, but it isn't used in this video. Does an excellent job, though. Footage looks better than using tape, too! A good solid camera!

Sou muito objetivo, todas elas são boas magníficas sem defeito, o que eu acho que os fabricantes erraram( quem sou eu pra dizer isso ) mas minha opinião é de livre arbítrio.elas deveriam virem com um volume de som padrão, e outro pra vc escolher a o volume desejado. ( que é o que vem )no meu caso eu fiz um evento....e não aumentei, não regulei o volume....resultado fiquei somente com as imagens. ESTAMOS NA ERA DA TRANSFORMAÇÃO DIGITAL.Principalmente quando se fala em IMAGENS.A GRAVAÇÃO NEM SEQUER SAIO UM RUÍDO, para recuperar o áudio original. E agora? amigo tem outro meio de recuperar, na edição aparece somente a linha de áudio sem o gráfico...

I'm afraid not. (At least, not unless you use an external recorder). It's an older model camera so it's either DV tape (inbuilt) or using a Sony recorder that can clip on the back of the camera which records to CF cards. SD would need an external recorder to record the HDMI output. (Something from BlackMagic or Atomos would do it).
