SONY ICF-SW7600 restoration (repair)

I hope you are still fine under difficult time. Apart from it, good job for the repair. I like your manner you always start with cleaning up the body before doing repairs. Very neat way! The electrolytic caps are all bottleneck for Sony equipment in this era (90s mostly). And it is wise to replace them with SMD capacitors. Suggestions are: 1) tantalum caps are good for performance but still have possibilities to break in catastrophic manner as it fails in "short" mode between VCC line and ground. 2) the most weak caps are within DC-DC converter which is used for tuning-voltage supply over varicap. In this SW7600's case they are inside shielded tin can so difficult to replace in fact. If it was not replaced this time, the next time you better replace it first. GL and 73!

ICF-7600 the most perfect version that SONY has produced. I regret so much that I sold it in 2005, the 2002 model. I have tried several brands and models, but ICF-7600 is NUMBER ONE ⭐⭐👍Then comes the ICF-55⭐⭐

I have one to refurbish, this is helpful for my project, TNX for sharing; I diagnosed the the tuner and at high frequencies above 20MHz, no PLL lock, for sure DC/DC converter issue, hi.

The early Sony 7600 from 1983 onwards to 1987 didn't suffer from this problem as no surface mount capacitors were used.

It seems to me that before starting a repair you need to make sure that you understand how the circuit works, how to determine if the parts are ok or faulty, have the proper tools and skills to replace bad parts, make measurements and alignments.

Thank you! I didn't count the number of capacitors. This is easy to do if you take the scheme. I recommend changing all electrolytic at once. I used size B SMD tantalum capacitors.

I buy capacitors in an online store. There are a little over two dozen of them. The easiest way is to just look at the list of electrolytic capacitors in the service manual. The new tantalum ones are size B. Preferably a little more voltage.

З відео не зрозуміло чи усі конденсатори довелося міняти чи то був якийсь ключовий і того достатньо? Взагалі то дивно, вони схожі на твердополімерні в яких немає чому сохноти і ресурс напрацювання в них = декількам таких гаджетів..

там звичайні SMD електроліти не кращої якості. головна проблема не у висиханні, а у витіканні електроліту на плату та роз'їданні всього на платі. також відбувається зміна параметрів. зазвичай краще замінити одразу всі, оскільки всі вони приблизно в однаковому стані.

@@ЄвгенЧернявський-т7г я не вимірював на платі і не можу сказати що хоч у одного з них була номінальна ємність. до того ж ємність далеко не єдиний параметр конденсатора. а враховуючи ціну нового конденсатора, просто не бачу сенсу отримати через місяць апарат на повторний ремонт через намагання зекономити копійки. але ви можете поекспериментувати.
