Hi, I really enjoyed your review. These are my thoughts about these headphones which I have owned for about 6 years. Back in 2018 I was looking for a pair of really high wuality headphones and around $100 was the top price I wanted to pay. I read review after review of a less expensive pair of Sony Headphones and they received so much praise it was crazy. I am not sure of the model but they were around $60 and red on sie sides of the headphone instead of the Blue. So I thought I would take a chance on the MDR-7506 and bought them online without hearing them first which back in the old days I would never do. I bought these is 2018 and absolutely Love the sound. They sound incredible for only spending $90. I have owned Headphones all my life and in my opinion, they sound like the pair of Koss headphones I owned in the 80's that I loved. I Love everything about them especially the sound quality which for the price, I doubt any headphone could match the sound for $90. My only Con is I wish the Headpone wire was detachable so you could replace the wire when it started to wear out. Otherwise, I Love these headphones and could not be more happy with them and the sound I get with them. Lastly, I use them with all Separate Technics components and I am very happy with them. So, if anyone is looking for a pair of fantastic headphones without braking the bank, try these. I doubt you will be dissapointed, and if you are you can always ship them back.

I believe the predecessor to the MDS 7506 was the MDS V6, which had red labels. The V6 was discontinued when the 7506 came out, which makes me think the 7506 is the upgrade to the V6.

@@EddyFreddyfulits not, The MDR-V6 original was made in Japan. They started making them in Thailand and those are the same as the 7506. Sony was trying to get the price down to the original price of the V6’s with the cheaper made 7506. We have all 3. The new to come out MDR-M1 looks to be the old V6’s and made in USA. The price looks like what the V6’s (japan made) would be at todays prices.

Thinks for the Sony review. I just purchased these and like them more than my more expensive Grado 225e. The Sony is more comfortable and sound slightly better to my ear. Although I also like my Grados with thicker ear pads, but not as good value as Sony.

What an absolute joy of a review to listen to. I had shortlisted the Sony MDR-7506 phones from a few reviews as a potential choice within budget and audio abilities, but then overjoyed to see that the ones that led me to them - the Audio Technica ATH-M50X - were compared in this same review. A clear explanation of pros and cons, a clear comparison of the two sets of headphones, a clear, calm analysis...excellent. Thank you.

Sony rarely maintains a line for a long time, specially headphones. It says a lot about these headphones. Really enjoyable review. 🎩 Also I totally agree with having these as a reference even with higher quality headphones in our collection.

Yeah, this way I saved myself from many unnecessary buys. MDR 7506 is superb benchmark when spending money on headphones. My rule is, when something is more expensive than my MDR`s, it should also be better sounding, or at least, with same sound quality have some other qualities.

MDR-M1 should be the Japan made V6’s remade and not diluted by price point. I will get them as soon as available in October. After owning the MDR-V6’s from 1991, the Thailand made V6’s and 7506, I gave them to my kid and wife, They love them and I find them worthless. Spoiled.

I own both Sony and Audio Technica. I find ATH a little boring. Use them as my PC headphones. I like to watch movies and webinars with ATH. MDR more for critical music listening. MDR delivers so MUCH information. Unfortunately, you hear all the garbage too, so, some recent mixes are unlistenable on MDRs. So, for pure enjoyment I listen to some ChiFi in-ears, less information and sound coloration in the way I like for fun listening.

After having read many reviews, I decided on the ATH M50x over the 7506. Yesterday I went to the store to get them, but they had several models I could listen to before buying so I tried the 7506, the M50x and the DT990. I left the store with the Sonys, they really surprised me. Everything’s good so far but I’m interested in modding them because they’re just a tad bright. Fatiguingly so.
@edmush20103 ай бұрын
@@infiniteheight The brightness is not a bug, it's a feature. :) That's why I own many headphones. Better buy one more pair (less bright) of headphones than destroy a classic. If you don't already own, try Koss KPH30i. 7506... you can just EQ them, I use standard Jazz setting sometimes.

@@edmush2010 I use them for production and mixing, alongside the HD650 (which are very dull) and monitors in a semi-treated room. I feel the snares in particular are tedious to work with and I have yet to hear how the decisions taken with the 7506s will translate. Other than that, for casual listening, they seem a solid choice. You're probably right about holding off on the mod, though.

I wonder if these things will play out of my Phinistec Z6 DAP (it's a $40 DAP with a good bang-for-your-buck value, much like the MDRs.) I use an old Samsung Galaxy S8, and the audio jack quality is about the same as it is on the Z6, so if the S8 can handle them, the Z6 definitely will. But enough about the playback devices. Those headphones will probably be fantastic. If the studios have used these for over 30 years without stopping, you know they're good.
@gh0stcassette21 күн бұрын
They have extremely high sensitivity, closer to an IEM than a lot of other over-ear headphones. Basically anything with a headphone jack will drive this fine.

I love my 7506s, but I recently had to replace the earpads as they began to peel. I couldn't find official replacements in the UK anywhere but like once place, where it was close to £60! I settled for Brainwavz for £25, but the same has changed a tiny bit. Not a dealbreaker, but still unfortunate.

Sony always made good value headphones. I first noticed that when a mates parents bought a pair with their very modest mini system. And when I saw a few tv camera men wearing them as well as the sound guy with the boom mic. I like Shure and Beyerdynamic headphones too. I have Dt990 and 1990 models and Akgabd some high end sony wireless models the metal backed ones with silver arms and I think they were class leading in their day in the price category. Like speakers personal taste prevails but a headphone must must must be comfortable for at least an hour or two . Beyerdynamic are good at this and Even my Bose S700 I got when my Sony 1000xm4 failed twice....the Bose units don't sound as good as the Sony ones but they are way more comfortable and they haven't failed yet. I'm no Bose fan but they can get it right. The S700s need you to eq them to taste. After a recent hifi shop visit it occurred to me how much headphone choices are out there. Heavy hitters in Speakers are well and truly in the personal hifi game....that's where the growth is. People can be all snobby about how good or bad blutooth wireless headphones and a high end phone can sound. It's fine by me for out and about exercise or travelling long distances.

Those to me have way way WAY too much top end. Decent for a vocalist to use for monitoring. Hi fi? Not close.. I'm 65 Years old and can still hear the horizontal oscillator from a CRT (15k ish) I've tested many people 50 plus who barely reach 10K..some 6k. Point being, protect your hearing. With high end Headphone amplification, the top above 10K is just subjectively 10dB up.
