Sorry for only now replying now. My best advice for you is if your laptop have two ports one for headphones and the other one for a microphone buy a microphone for the mic port and buy the headphones for the headphone port so your friends can hear you properly and you can hear them too. But if your laptop have one port for both mic and headphones,if you plug the 3.5 jack of the headphones in it should be ready for you to use both features (mic/headphone). if it does not pick up on your laptop normally you must switch the feature on by your laptop windows mic ports should be by your settings or a window will pop up when you plug in the headphone in to the lap top mic/headphones port. Hope this helps you.
