Sony PlayStation Prices are Doing Something Interesting [Retronomics]

What do you think about PlayStation prices? Will they rise or fall in 2023?

My old original playstation still alive and strong nowadays thankfully, my paremts bought it for me a bit late ,though. Around Feb 2000 I got it as a surprise, during high school a year later I go out of our village to city where my school located and only play at home during weekend (usually until 3 am in the morning), thats also probably another factor it still usable today

@@SuperNicktendo absolutely, will treasure it, I don't know yet if it yellowing or not because it's unit are fully covered in Tekken 3 console sticker since the early time I got it

I think prices will start to drop slowly next year, but in the next 2 - 3 years, drop to reasonable levels. It takes a few years when people start to lose interest and move on to other things.

I totally agree. As the pandemic spending recession kicks in I think retro gaming may finally get affordable again. Dragon Force on Saturn for 3 - 400 bucks?! Cmon son!

This is an interesting video! You should make it a yearly content, like, Retronomics August or something where you make these kind of vids in that month for all major consoles, especially Playstation lineup cuz don't really care bout others lol (sorry grandpa NES and gramma Genesis)

I got to be honest, I’m a little surprised that games from this generation and before still go for so much. It has never been easier to play PS1, N64, SNES, etc games than ever before. Are there really that many “physical collectors” still? Because back in the day, the only reason people bought games was because, well, that was the only way to play said games. Can of surprises me.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug - no different that comic books or baseball cards. Except these don't seem to lose value when you play with them. I can't say for the modern collectors, but I still play my original games more than I do digitally.

I also collect cards and it is more expensive than videogames. People pay thousands for htf cards, that you only look at them and put them in a case. Videogames at least you get hours of fun with them.

@@SuperNicktendo I mean I have all my old stuff too. But playing a SNES cart on a system takes so much more time, money, and/or effort. So what happens to my copy of Earthbound now? It sits on a shelf, like a figurine, doing nothing. I guess I’m just surprised there are enough buyers that prices are able to soar. I got out of the collecting game 10 years ago when prices were starting to go up. But when I see SoTN going for north of $150…. I’m just like “who in the hell is paying that much?”. That game sold a million copies. You can download it for 10 bucks on Xbox and it actually loads faster. Just continues to mystify me is al. I guess I’m just not as materialistic as some people. I wish I had LESS shit, not more.

@@amuntvalencia7827 Yeah, card collectors mystify me 10 times more than video game collectors. It’s like people think they are buying unique pieces of art work instead of thin cardboard with printed image.

@@leeartlee915 yeah I personally wouldn't spend that much money on something unless it was a personal experience attached to it. If I was just starting collecting today I would have a fraction of what I have and emulate the rest. The prices are getting so out of hand that my collection is becoming a liability.

so glad i collected ps1 games during 6th gen. proud to own most of the games here. tron bonne, revelations, & klonoa, among others not listed, is now just a pipe dream for me 😢

Yeah it's been a rough year at my full time job so I needed to prioritize that first since it pays the bills. I've also been trying to make some evergreen content to draw attention to these videos since sometimes KZbin just stops promoting the retronomics episodes after a week or so.

2:30 jewel cases can be a nightmare to ship sometimes. Just glad my psikyo bravo soundtrack worked when rhe case broke and technology is better than when I had my Saturn. Funny how shipping services still beat up packages whule they raise the price. Surprised tactics ogre had value, and reborn went on sale (which yeah its flaws no way worth $50, and cutscene channel helps). PS3 includes manuals that probably won't be in Suikoden remake for $16 combined.

I bought tomba for 94 Complete in October and parasite eve for like 45 I think my holy grain is klonoa for ps1 it was missing the manual but I bought it for 3 bucks at a yard sale

The Sega CD plays burned discs, no protections on it, yet keio flying squadron goes for 3k.... I think it may have the ps1 beat!
