That’s true, it’s really going to depend on your requirements what will make the best camera 👍
@Hangs4Fun5 жыл бұрын
I have not seen this with mine. Granted 99% of the time I'm running from a shot list and try to limit shots to what they to capture (so that editing isnt a nightmare of going through way too much footage). That being said, several times I have needed to hit record and leave it recording and couldnt get back to it right away, and it recorded over 15 mins no problems. I would recommend that you have the back screen lifted off the back slightly as it is an easy way to help dissipate more heat. Any way, not sure of the use cases where you let a camera roll for an hour straight in 4K, would be the most boring hour of video. Most of the time I'm trying to figure out how to change frames and angles every 4 to 8 seconds so that I dont put the viewer to sleep. But either way, I have not had this heating problem and hadn't heard this yet. Too bad he doesnt have that on video to prove it and show the conditions it was under (direct sun, screen closed, back usb/mic area closed, had it configured to not ignore high heat, battery that was just fast charged, etc..) There are other issues with the RX0 Mark II that are more concerning than this, to me non issue.
@Hangs4Fun5 жыл бұрын
@@TheEverydayDad well said. Many people hear a bunch of features and then build a checklist from features that dont pertain to what they require. Then go out and try to check all those boxes. Besides identifying your requirements you also need to give each one that makes your list a "weight" something that indicates one thing is how much more important to you than the other. E.G. for the 2 week solo backpacking trips I take into national wilderness, weight, size, audio/video quality, speed of use, and durability are heavily weighted requirements. Lower for me would be S-Log2, stabilization, cost, AF-C, how long it can record for, etc. Then you have to look at your use cases and think through how you will use this. Editing a video from 30 min video clips is a nightmare, shot lists help you get the footage you need and makes the editing process go better and you instead get lots of little clips (going by your shot lists). I have yet to use the RX0 Mark II where the focal distance changed after I hit record, that's not what I use it for. Usually I wip out the RX0 Mark II, it is for either vlogging or time lapse, neither of which has a changing focal distance. I need to stop watching and reading comments for these RX0 Mark II videos. Lots of misunderstanding what the camera is designed for and who it was targetting.. BTW, either RX0 was NOT designed to compete with the GoPro (Sony has a line of similarly priced action cameras with better stability already), this camera is for higher quality video productions that want durable and sync able (upto 50-100 synced) S-Log2 footage. I think Sony themselves are having a disconnect between the marketing department and engineering. Any way love your channel, you dis better than most on this review (though I still dont get why so many compare these two cameras)

Your test footage around 5:50 looks ungraded, which is good: shows what each camera gives to start with. But that does mean the GoPro looks more contrasty and with pushed saturation, which is their trademark pitch for mass appeal, whereas the RX0II looks flat, but this is completely adjustable in post, if you do any video editing at all. The graded image from the RX0II should seriously beat the GPH7. To my eye, your GPH7 looks mushy as usual; just like my GPH5. GoPro may record at 1440, 2.7K, and 4K, but that doesn't mean the IMAGE actually carries that amount of visual information. Without question, the teeny sensor and optics of the GPH7 bottlenecks image density. Your shot looks more like an effective 720 resolution. In fairness though, I've tested pushing in post with my GPH5 at 4K & 2.7K a lot, and I think I get more than 1080, but less than 2.7K.

Big fan of the GoPro, and getting ready to make the plunge...then you come along with the Sony RX0 II. The picture quality is sooo much better that even with GoPro's many advantages including the stabilization, the Sony picture quality blows the GoPro out of the water. wtf overheats and shuts off after 15minutes of 4k?
@ZenGeekDad5 жыл бұрын
I've heard conflicting reports on this. Some say around 45 minutes. But I've also heard 10 minutes. Tricks to reduce heat shutdown (learned my hot Sony A7iii): pull the screen out fully (reduces insulation of body), run on an external battery (eliminates heat generated in the in-body battery, which is substantial)., and if you want 8-bit 422 badly enough to record over HDMI, then maybe there's a setting to turn off in-body recording.
@ZenGeekDad5 жыл бұрын
Since I posted this, I've bought a couple RX0ii's and used them on some jobs, and tested them pretty thoroughly. They did not overheat for me in any of several continuous >3-hour shoots. I just had to switch the preference setting to hi-T thermal shutdown. In most cases I used an external USB battery, but in at least one job, it was the internal battery alone. I really like these for how I'm using them: as static, unattended B-cams for event shoots, where I want more perspectives to mix together in post. The 4K is very nice. And setting the focus properly in advance overcomes the lack of continuous AF just fine. I hate auto-ISO on any static cam, this one included, so I don't use it. I just pick my exposure settings carefully and accept that not every second of footage is going to be perfectly exposed. But that beats having auto-ISO (or auto shutter) wander randomly every time the stage lights vary, or the actors move around.

@@ZenGeekDad hey man seriously? I was totally sold on this Cam for my vlog and live stream kinda everything as its time to upgrade my old GoPro. But I need at least an hour of continuous usage. 1.5 would be great to make sure all is good. That 15 min thing freaks me out though. Is there any videos or anything that can further prove this? Would love it, Thanx. I'd prefer this to the hero 8 but I need at least an hour.
@ZenGeekDad5 жыл бұрын
@@Eddylive I haven't looked for anyone else posting some thermal shutdown test results; sorry. But since I posted above, I've used my RX0ii pair for additional shoots. The only early shutdown I got was almost certainly due to a battery issue. (I found the recording had stopped after 27 min, running solely on internal battery, and upon repowering, it showed nil battery and promptly shut back down.) So, so far these RX0ii's still record reliably for hours with no thermal shutdown, as long as I do the above 3 tricks (external battery, hi-T shutdown setting, and LCD screen away from camera body). If those operating measures don't bother you, then don't fear a thermal shutdown. One caveat: the RX0ii is a lot of sensor for a live stream, which I assume is not going to be at 4K. Maybe the RX0ii is worthwhile for its better light-gathering than a GoPro (due to much bigger sensor). But GoPro DoF is more forgiving, and if you're moving around any, GoPro image stabilization is hard to beat. The RX0ii 4K image is markedly sharper than my GoPro Hero5 Black's 4K image. But if you're downsampling to 1080 for streaming, that difference is less obvious.

Finally someone doing a comparison video, most other reviews say that it’s not an action camera so there is no use comparing, that’s a load of bs! A lot of us hero 7 owners have it because it’s a handy small waterproof camera, that of which the rxo series are. I would love an rx0 ii for its low light capabilities and image quality but won’t get one until they put afc into it, that’s just a massive fail imo! The image quality of the hero 7 holds up quite well considering I’m watching this video on KZbin and my iPad which a lot of people do so the image quality difference almost becomes irrelevant in where the content and stability of content is more important. If they had afc and bos stabilisation like the x3000, they would sell like hot cakes! Actually for the price difference I think most people would take the GoPro. We need more innovative moves from Sony in their action cameras I reckon. I would absolutely love a waterproof smashproof version of the rx100 vi, if they made a hybrid point and shoot/ action camera with BOSS and a 24-200mm lens, that camera would live on my person at all times

As a Hero 7 user, I’m struggling to see me parting with twice the money for the Sony, the GoPro does a specific job, it has done now for several years, the latest version is stunning. The Sony is stuck between the action cam and and a standard mirror less camera, with terrible battery life. If it was 500 quid it might have been a possibility, but not at over 700 quid.

What about reliability? The Hero 7 always locks up or stops recording in the middle of a skydive. What about the Sony? It doesn't really matter which one is best in other categories if you get down from a jump and have nothing because it locked up.
@TIMagicProd5 жыл бұрын
There are too many issues IMO about the GoPro Hero 7 Black as far as its usability as a vlogging camera. For starters, not having a flip-up screen can make vlogging much more difficult when you film more subjects than just yourself and it's a major pain to have to use another accessory (i.e. smartphone) just to be able to properly frame your shot and not take your chances by guessing. The other major pain is that in order to connect an external mic, you need the proprietary mic adapter which takes away simultaneous in-camera charging for longer shoots. Also, by not having a built-in tripod mount, you will need to carry around another accessory (more things to carry and possibly lose). Then there is the fisheye lens that not everyone likes. Yes, it covers a wider field of view, but it's at the expense of distortion. As a vlogging camera, the Sony is a step closer in the right direction, but could still use some improvements like a continuous autofocus, an improved internal stabilizer, and an optional date/time display.

This was really helpful. When you think about it, there are many aspects to image quality: resolution, dynamic range, color quality, noise reduction, stability, etc. When it comes to stills, I would absolutely go with the Sony. It would be an easy choice for me. For video though, I would argue that a stable image is more important than anything else. I can watch and enjoy a video with lower resolution, washed-out color, and lots of noise if the content is compelling. A shaky video is rejected immediately. It gives me a headache and screams amateur. As an aside, I'm both surprised and disappointed that the Sony doesn't offer continuous AF and tracking. That is one area where Sony excels.

If you're going to travel, you can always take a small smartphone that has a good camera system and put it in a protective case. If you've done your research, you might agree that I can find some good examples of smartphones that are pretty small and have good photo and video recording capabilities, complete with image stabilization. Some of these are water resistant too. Take the Moto X4, for example. I saw it on sale at the Best Buy and Motorola websites yesterday for a really good deal. To me the GoPro had the better color (or more natural color), the Sony looked washed out and for double the price it shouldn't be so. Considering the mic input issue for the GoPro (it SHOULD have a 3.5mm jack on it) can be fixed with a $60 part that isn't a deal breaker, also the mic adapter can be used as a charge port is a nice touch. Also the focusing on the Sony seems like a hassle for such a small camera without a remote of some kind.

Wide-angle cam's for vlogging DEMAND everything be in focus so iPhone 11 or equivalent is a much better choice. The Gopro does indeed have a 1/2.3 sensor. It's amazing what the engine room in that thing does considering the size of the sensor, but they've just about maxed out its capabilities, so any future Gopros won't get much of a bump up from it without going to a bigger sensor. The RX0 II would have to sport a really big lens in order to compete with the Gopro's Superwide field of view, but I would take a larger action-esque camera if it gave me a fisheye.

I have to say, the last few videos we have done have been recorded on the GoPro and I have to say, the low light for that kind of live music shot is really not as bad as I think everyone says. Got to use use Exposure Lock though, otherwise the highlights (from the stage lighting) blow it out big time, which is something I only really got onto after a few times using it. Compared to the other shots with the iPhoneXS Max, I think the video quality looks amazing, and whilst there are only a few examples up, the other videos I am doing do show what a great bit of kit they are. The biggest disappointment for me though is the audio, it's just not good, and really needs to done with an external mic rather than the in-built. If the Sony nailed the sound, and the bigger sensor dealt with the dynamic range of a gig better, then I would definitely pay more and get the Sony, or at least add one to the arsenal and use the GoPro's for other angles. Anyway, great video as always.

I'm trying to figure the use case for the Sony. I am leaning toward it being intended for the more serious use videographer. Use cases I see are kind of like this: This Sony: Serious production use with coloring in post. More serious IG. The GoPro: Primarily for adventure antics and inclement shooting. Look at me IG. And the DJI Pocket: Vacationers and travelers, stealth, and YT B-roll. "Here we are in Sicily. We are shooting people and they don't seem to notice."

Gopro Hero7 Black looks way better

I think they both look good in different ways 👍

The actual body might look better but the image qualtiy from the rx 0 II is just way better than the Gopro's. The Gopro looks like a cheapish smartphone camera to me

Would the rxo work well for recording my kids indoor basketball games?
@TheEverydayDad5 жыл бұрын
Depends on how close you are but it’s kind of a wide lens to capture something far away.

@@TheEverydayDad at times I'm courtside and with my regular camcorder is fine except when inbounding the ball or running by me I cant get the full shot there bodies are literally cut in half. Also you mentioned it doesn't autofocus well will that be a problem recording the whole team/my kid?

Hey mate. Have you still got this Sony RX0 II camera lying around? I am not begging, I want to buy it if you want to sell. Need it for a project :-)

When viewed on my iPhone, the image from the Sony doesn’t hold up - it gets all pixelated. Is it KZbin’s processing?

GoPro footage color and all just looked better to me so as price the is better I would prefer it.

If price is not the factor then I need one 360 action camera to be mounted on motorcycle LHS lower postion & one normal action camera on front of helmet. Which two would you recommend. Was considering Insta360 One R with 360 mod & 4k mod, but I am open to suggestion

10:17 200Kgf crushproof from four sides may not be able to hold your car, but motorbike could be a go.

Well, I wouldn't spend as much to buy the Sony as it costs. I think it would take better photos than the GoPro, particularly because the Sony has one of those half-press to focus, and full-press to take the picture options for its main button, based on what I've read, so you would get 15.3-megapixel photos completely in focus, just like with a normal point-and-shoot camera. The ideal thing about this is that the Sony is much smaller and lighter than a point-and-shoot camera. Otherwise, of course, if you wanted to travel, you could just take a point-and-shoot camera (LOL--of course you could travel without any camera at all). First you might thinking that these aren't waterproof and crushproof, but I have one that is AND that has a selfie flip-up screen. This is the Olympus TG-870. Unfortunately, it is no longer being made by Olympus, but I think it would make a good travel camera, other than being heavier and larger than the Sony, and of course it doesn't shoot 4K videos.

If the GoPro Hero 8 Black has a flippy screen & tiny interchangeable lenses I’ll buy it & sell my other cameras.

Actually I dont understand why you feel you cannot compare the two. They are used for the same purpose.. I dont see any reason why I should pay double for the Sony wherein the GoPro 7 is so much more affordable. There is nothing that justifies Sony's extremely high price. I feel that should have released the X4000... they should have updated the X3000 by now... at least that could compete with the GP7. For photos, everyone knows great photos only happen if you edit the photos...the same goes for videos... you mentioned about adding a mic... well its not like you cannot add a mic with the GP7. There are so many accessories in the market for GP that allows you to add various accessories. And when videoing... isnt it good if things are in focus... also, i notice the GP has a wider field of view. So for Vloggers, when you extend you arm, you will definitely be in the shot. You said you cant fault either camera... well thats actually bad for Sony... because that means your not providing people a reason... a good reason to shell out more money to get the Sony. Your comparing the video quality, you dont want to use the wide angle lens... why not... you can crop the video anyways... if you notice the Sony, you dont see much of the background... but if your vlogging about a place, like a beach or a city,... you want more background view. GP& image stabilization looks much better... for me, your didnt give me a good reason on why I should spend more and get the Sony over the GP7
