There is an option in the settings now to stop the camera from turning off when you close the view finder. My friend purchased this camera and that was the first thing he looked for when he turned it on, because him and a number of people were annoyed by that in the previous model.

Cool and thorough review, I liked it. Some remarks: when you push down the EVF and the camera turns off, you can now change that in the settings of the camera. Also, what was the video codec used for rendering this video? Since I saw a lot of artifacting in the 120p 60M XAVC S 1080p video footage sample. It would've been nice to get more in-depth about S-log, since it's a feature previously only found in FS camera's. Base ISO would be 1600, and it's nice they added a 3-stops N-filter. Would be nice to show us some footage from S-log and how it can be edited.

Hello Lisa, first of all congratulations for your reviews they are always very informative. There is one thing about this review however that it is not correct. In the Sony RX100 IV there is actually an option (it was not present in the previous version) that stops the camera from shutting off when you close the viewfinder (in the options menu). Nice review If this is like the mark 3, you can keep the camera on if you press the 'on' button at the same time as you push the viewfinder down.

the only downside I've experienced is that there is no 'Intelligent Steadyshot' setting for the 4K video which you have in 1080p. This means that the 4K video is shaky and often unusable in 4K when hand held. So beware. I just hope they introduce a firmware upgrade to address this soon as the camera is not cheap to buy.

The shutter sound is not too loud? Are you talking about the artificial noise you can turn off? The shutter in this camera is virtually silent.

Does this camera have both NTSC and PAL modes? As in 60p vs 50p mode? I hear the American version of RX100 II did not offer a PAL mode, but the PAL version offered both.

I have the Mark II, and I like it better because all of the accessories you can add to it. I have the Sony mic and the evf. I have used the Sony mic to record my daughters dance & singing competitions and boy does it make it sound better. And it looks cooler too. I don't understand why Sony would take off the hot shoe that gives you the option to add an external flash or mic??? I just don't get it!!?!

hi Lisa , i like it your presentation style it is slow ,steady , like you are not in any hurry , like a sun . i want to know from you that in 2016 will sony release RX100 MARK 5 with pdaf /hybrid autofocus with focose time of 0.05 sec or less with curved Exmor RS sensor and better high fps about 1080p at 980fps with new bionZ x cpu and low heat during 4K because transistor node has reached 11nm which have low TDP . i allready have sony rx100 mark 3 i skipped mark 4 but now i want mark5 , do you know when it will come in 2016 , i have seen canon 80d i did not like it primary due to it does not fit in my pocket , and due to rx100 form factor i can be incognito which i can not be with canot 80d

I got the M3 here in Hong Kong and at the time it was $800USD~. Now the M4 is released, it's still around $850USD with the M3 being $630 now. Damn, US prices is pretty damn expensive.

Tanner Hostrander As I mentioned in the video, the RX100 Mk 2 is my personal favorite. I like the hot shoe, longer zoom lens and (nowadays) lower price tag.But that's me. If you want the EVF, 4K or slow motion video recording, then it's worth the upgrade.

tbh, the combination of selfie mode and 960 fps mode makes it worth it for me. But it'd be hard for me to pony up over $900 for this. I think I'll wait until price drops down to $700 or so ~ RX100 II owner.

Just bought the Panasonic DMC-TZ70, a supersoom, competing with this product, but less than half the price of the Canon. Has RAW, EVF, Wifi, etc like the Canon. No regrets for not buying the Canon. None of the software bugs, like Lisa mentions with these Canons.

Valerii Zakharov It's limited to 5 minutes of 4K recording to avoid overheating. Now 1080p overheating, that's another thing. I get heat warnings around 10 to 15 minutes. It doesn't always shut down though (which it will do if necessary to prevent camera damage).

+MobileTechReview So, you pay your 1000+ (dol or euro) to buy the best compact camera(every reviewer says so) BUT then you have 5min(ridiculous really) of 4k video or 10 to 15min of 1080p??? Who cares that it doesn't have a mic input. There is nothing stopping you from using an external audio solution like a zoom h1 and a clapper board. That would probably be higher quality anyways and it is much more flexible than using the camera to record audio. If you are carrying around an external mic, the zoom isn't much more weight, AND, the mic isn't tethered to the camera.
