Sony SA-WMSP3 8'' 100W powered Subwoofer | Sound & Free Air TEST

So this is an 8'' Sony subwoofer rated at 50w RMS and 100W MAX . Compared to the Yamaha sub I had one year ago , this thing sounds ok , is pretty loud and have some power to it ! The driver is not the best I've ever seen in a cheap Sony Sub as it have a lots of mechanical noises even at low volume and does smell pretty easily with lows . The amp is actually way too powerful for that little driver , it is driving my Logitech Z2300 subwoofer driver like a champ ! Sony claimed a 28hz but that's not really it ... the lowest note I've got was 41hz . Still a nice sub to play with as it have a vey capable little amp .

i have 2 of these subs that i got for free along with a surround sound system, i love how crisp and clean they sound compared to some of the muddy sounding subs ive come across, they also pack a pretty big punch despite their small size

Your experience of only getting 41hz sounds about right, I modeled it and the box is tuned to 42hz, which also means the amp that sony build for it likely has built in correction, but really can't do much about how high this is tuned. I have the 100w version and am going to add a 2in x 14in pipe to aim for 28hz, and power it with an external amp to hopefully get a more flat response (in my small room that adds quite a bit of room gain).

Well actually no, the amp don't have a single eq pr dsp, it sends full signal all the way 1hz and this is a huge issue as the stock driver hates lows...and it actually smells really fast with the stock amp!

Cool subwoofer! It looks pretty beefy, it should have a decent amount of bass. Noisyyy lol. Good excursion from that sub. Nice video Does this sub goes down to 20hz? I tested a 6" LG Subwoofer in free air that had the same noisy problems as this one, but it was almost at it's maximum excursion.

Its a great little sub, obviously a good trash find! I've changed to driver in it and now it have the Logitech z2300 subwoofers... Wa way better! But hey what do you expect from a cheap home theater sub? 20hz?! Nah but it goes down to 40 which is already nice

Thank you ! Well yeah that driver remember me of that JBL SUB333 subwoofer , no excursion but still mechanical noises . They doi have a lots of potential but they sounds like trash due to the lack of ventilation . But yeah it's a decent sub .

I have something that is identical to what you have in your video, but no labeling anywhere to tell me which model number. It does have a 100 watts printed on the front. The speaker is a Sony 8" 1-825-004-12 instead of a 13 as yours is.

idk about you, but i think sony uses the same subwoofer drivers in all of their home theatre systems e.g multeki 6.2

Yeah they used the same in a ton of models but some higher end models had their own custom drivers tho

Wow this driver sounds soooo bad in free air xD Dead spiders seem to like Sony speakers huh? I found a dead one in one of my Sony speakers that I picked up before going to school (oof i hate school so much) I blew up both of them and they were soo powerful! Sony MHC-BX2 btw

I have some Sony ss-b3000 3-ways that had a dead spider inside each box when I got them. Funny thing is, I have never witnessed a spider crawling up a bass port, I just find some of them inside the speaker.
