Of course, as soon as I have this video was uploading I notice the guidepost that pulls the tape out (P5 I think?) had started to gum up. So that got fixed as well.

great video Sony started making VHS decks in 1988 and continued making Beta decks for the US until 1993

Yeah I think 12voltvids said their first VHS machines were the SLV-555 (predecessor to this one) and the SLV-757 (shown in the brochure). Their last Beta VCR in 1993 was the SL-2000 right?
@KR12753 жыл бұрын
Funny to see in the brochure all the remotes without LCD screen. All the European Sony VHS models that time had a LCD-screen on the remote for very easy timer setting.

I saw a German Sony VCR with a remote with LCD on ebay. Looks very different from the Sony remotes we had over here. The buttons, design, layout, everything.

That's a nice machine, and looks to be absolutely mint condition. Looks like the previous owner really took good care of it. I still have three VCRs, two S-VHS and one later Sony standard VHS although they rarely get used today, but I do drag them out every few months to clean them, ensure they still work and for occasional archiving. I also have several 4 hour tapes I recorded music onto back in the late 80s and early 90s as they made an excellent alternative to reel to reel and sound superb even today.

These are good machines. Electronics are usually perfect. Mechanics are normally the half load arm, blue gear and capstan bearing. Easy to work on and great picture. I have (2) of the 575s and a 676

In the brochure when you're showing the Beta comparison page, the " SUPER MECHANISM " I can attest to. I have an SL-HF350 with the pre-SUPER version and it's driven completely differently; with a series of cogs driving a toothed belt that lets you know it's loading/unloading and threading the tape with a whining sound. I also have an SL-HF360 which has the newer, silent SUPER MECHANISM. It's driven by a motor attached directly to a worm gear that drives the loading/unloading tray separately from the threading mechanism, which is also a newer spiffy design. I love your presentations; so well lit; focussed and executed! I had a SLV-585HF with the pinch roller design that lifted up and out of the way when unloading and loading. It had to be kept lubricated or it would get stuck. I didn't like SONY's VHS m/c's.
@probnotstech3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I really appreciate it! I also have one of the newer Sony Betamax VCRs (SL-HF860D) with the quieter loading mech. Unfortunately the worm gear attached to the motor is cracked and slips, so I need to source another one.

Yes finally a VHS VCR!!!!!!!!! I am so pissed that you always find beta vcrs for cheap since I took years for me to find a broken Beta VCR that needed to be fixed and for you beta vcrs grows like apples on a apple tree while here in Sweden you can expect to pay a fortune for a beta VCR even if it is a broken beta vcr.

All these Sony vcr motors make “buzz” noises during function tasks. Owned many Sony models, even totl SVHS units all did the same. A small annoyance, but Sony Japan made units are solid

Great video, actually watching it recorded on STD D-VHS on my JVC HM-DR10000. It's quite good, pretty much DVD quality as far as I can tell but it's slow to load previews while FF or REWding and slow to load the image and sound after being paused.

Hi i just bought this exact machine yesterday at goodwill the blue gear is broke on the bottom can u give me some advice
@probnotstech3 жыл бұрын
You can still find replacement "blue" gears on ebay or even some supply websites. However you will want to remove all the dried grease in the mechanism surrounding the gear and replace with fresh grease, to prevent it from breaking again. 12voltvids has done a good video about that gear, but I can't remember which one it was exactly.

'Mint' means 'seems brand-new, factory-fresh, hasn't been used, works perfectly' and not just 'unblemished exterior'. It's a little alarming how many people are saying 'I got a thing that's in mint condition but it doesn't work'. That's not 'mint'.
@stereomann833 жыл бұрын
I had two of these units both of them had problems when playing SLP tape it would speed up then play normally. i think it was the capstan motor. but other then that they were very nice units.

I think these Sony VHS VCRs we made by Hitachi.
@probnotstech3 жыл бұрын
I think there was an article saying that the first Sony VHS VCRs would be made by Hitachi, but I'm not sure if that panned out, or if so how long it lasted. The design of these is very distinct from Hitachi VCRs of the time - it's definitely Sony's design. They also already had the manufacturing capability, given their Betamax line, so I suspect the Hitachi thing was either a temporary plan to get VCRs out the door, or it was an initial plan that never happened. Either way, really interesting stuff, I would love to find some more definitive information.
