Even if it's way more heavier (like 4 times this Zeiss), I love my Sigma Art 50mm F1.4 too much to consider replacing it with the 55mm Sony Zeiss.

I had this and am selling it, as a stills guy. I found Sigma's 65mm to just be better optically and more fun to use with its metal construction, odd focal length, and tactile controls.

I have had the Sony Zeiss Sonnar 55mm 1.8 T* ZA for five years, though I do want a Lens to have an aperture ring and a AF/MF switch, I can live it, because the 55mm are so compact and Light weight, very well built and with excellent optical image quality ! When combining the 55mm with the excellent Zeiss Loxia Distagon 21mm 2.8 T* you have a very nice compact and Light weight set for fx Street Photography. About focal length, I really do not like 28mm and 50mm focal length, boring and to often either too wide or too narrow, the 55mm is just that bit longer and are better for fx portraits of people.

This is also great for barbers/stylists/make up artists etc for photos. I am a barber and this lens always gives me way better photos than sony 135gm and sigma 85 dg dn, the sharp but soft thing is so true thats why its a game changer for this niche of users exactly what we need

The best way I would describe the Sony Zeiss 55 1.8 is a modern lens with all of the benefits that means but with a slight and very well controlled vintage vibe. The slight swirl in the bokeh is just amazing!

It was the first lens I bought when I started down the Sony full-frame route, and I still love it. The biggest disadvantage is that it doesn't focus very close. To get round this I add a Nikon 4T close-up lens using a 49-52 step-up ring. The results are excellent with very little degradation of those famous razor sharp images that the 55mm produces.

I have this lens for 2 years its almost perfect , size weight sharpness , af speed , the only downside its the minical focus distance I sell it recently and I buyed 50 1.2 gm for work but I will buy again the 55 1.8 to travel .

hey there, awesome video! this lens is stellar even tho you've rented the old version with a lot of CA and bit slower AF. Old verson got the 'Carl Zeiss' branding, new ones same look, but only 'zeiss' branding on them.

Love my 55 ziess. Love it for video and photos. Only 2 bad things are the minimum focus distance and manual focus on this is terrible lol.

@@KenseiAkatsu ALL autofocus lenses have trouble one way or an other !!! I have some of the very best Sony GM lenses, they can also struggle with AF, THAT is why I do manual focusing 99% of the time, faster and much more precise !
