The Human ear perceives frequencies between 20 Hz (lowest pitch) to 20 kHz (highest pitch). All sounds below 20 Hz are qualified as infrasounds So yeah We can hear all that, some of us more than others. Maybe that's why people like us become AudioHolics, right you know what I'm saying we had no choice sound has to be just right we are rarely satisfied but when we get it right Dam there is nothing like it, well almost nothing. lol Oh by the way nice review dude I learned from it, so thanks for that keep up the good work. We can never be to informed when it comes to building the right system pursuing perfection for that ear candy.

I have a old old rx v596 I want to upgrade (which is still working really well). I want something with Atmos and the newer formats, without going too crazy with money. I think it's come down to these to receivers.

Thank you for the review! Given the major differences in price up here in Canada, the Sony is $600 and the next step up for a 7.2 HDMI 2.1 receiver is $900, I'll be going the Sony route. I"ve been seeing a lot of good reviews, so I think this video caps it off for me.

@sugarey I believe so m, too. Your review really helped me out. Not sure if I'll get all of the benefits of HDMI 2.1 with only eARC, but its better than anything else I've found in this price range.

Thank you so much for the thorough review! Quick question, the Sony says it's not certified for 4ohm speakers, but would it still work? As I have a very good Passive speaker pair (70 RMS) but they're 4 ohm... And then I'll add smaller surround and center - probably 6 ohms. Thanks!

Here in Canada the Yamaha is $850.00 while the Sony is $550.00. From your comments I don’t think there’s $300.00 difference in performance so I went with the Sony. The other advantages of buying Sony is, if you have a Sony TV and or Blue ray you can control all three with one remote. That’s actually my setup so it was a no brainer for me.
@sugarey

Agreed with that price difference I'd stay with the Sony.

I'm on the same boat, in Toronto those are the prices. I'm leaning towards Sony, also because its size is smaller. How is the sound of the Sony? Any issues? Thank you!

Yup. Same here on the west coast. This is primarily for gaming for me, and the Sony is significantly cheaper and looks like thats going to be the one for me until I'm in a position I can go crazy with my system.

Great video I'm currently looking for an av receiver and your videos are helping a lot. I'm in Canada and prices here are way different than in the states. The three receivers on my list right now are the Yamaha RX-V6A ($850), Sony DH790 ($600) and the Sony DN1080 ($1000) I'm leaning towards the RX-V6A but have noticed a lot of people are having hdmi issues (not switching properly) have you noticed any hdmi issues and is Yamaha addressing and fixing this?

I'm going through this Canadian pricing thing RIGHT NOW. I would never have considered a Sony Receiver but I'm on a budget at the moment. ( I also live in Vancouver, so you know it's a financial knockout punch) I landed on this Sony for such a good price I figured it must be junk. 2 days later and I'm seeing glowing reviews for it. My major concern was HDMI 2.1, as this is primarily for gaming and I have a PS5/Series X, so I need that performance. The eARC firmware update sounds like it brings the functionality up to my needs.

Thanks for the video. Which is better? I was looking at the Sony or an all in one LG blueray system. Do you recommend a seperate amp over an all in one?
@sugarey
@sugarey 2 жыл бұрын
I’d say what type of gear depends on how much budget, room you have and your style/look. Example: at my new place - downstairs I just have the TV and use the TVs sound because it’s sounds decent and I wanted it clean (just the TV). Upstairs I have this full system and it works well for my uses. Also can’t go wrong with Sony and LG soundbars. I have a video highlighting them.

New subscriber here. I am replacing my 2nd 7.2 receiver. First had Onkyo and then Denon both from Best Buy. Now Best Buy said they were not doing these components anymore. So I am here on KZbin looking. Thanks for the good review. I am going to try to use my old speakers and replace as needed. Baby steps. Haha. Any advice for this retired engineer? Thanks again.

@@sugarey thanks. I replaced my stereo with a Sony. It failed like the old one. I discovered when a loud bang or just loud noise the amps would shut down. Then we discovered that the left surround was not playing any sound. I disconnected it and no more problem. So I didn’t need the amp but my daughter will like it.

Not sure if I missed it or not but you were about to tell us exactly how the yamaha sounded. If it was warmer etc.. and then started talked about tracks etc. I'm actually debating on these two receivers and since Costco doesn't have the TSR-700 listed anymore on their website I'm probably going to end up going Sony. I'm more interested in overall sound quality. How did the Sony sound to you vs the Yamaha?
@sugarey
@sugarey 3 жыл бұрын
In my opinion the Yamaha sounds better. By warmer I meant the default parabolic equalizer setting is better. Also the Yamaha may sound better because Yamaha YPAO mic setup does more internally to configure the system. Having all banana plugs and the USB in the front is also a plus. I also didn’t see it on the Costco site. I had to go the local store. If Sony o available in your area. But if it’s not at your store. You can’t go wrong with with the Sony model. Hope this helps.

Banana plugs vs. The wire clips. You said sony doesnt have all banana plugs option. Is there a cleaner, better sounding connection with banana plugs, or is it just to have a cleaner looking connection? I'm leaning towards the sony, but would consider getting yamaha. I have a yamaha 5.1 system in my room for a few years, and it's been great, but sony interface looks nice. Just weighing options before i buy. Btw i have a klipsch 7.1 speaker system on the way with a 10 inch sub already here. So running 2 subs.
@LarryMusgrave
@LarryMusgrave 3 жыл бұрын
@@camanay77 The banana connector is cleaner, easier and faster to work with if your a tinkerer and will be messing with the wiring periodically during your system growth or changes. As for sound quality, there really isn't a benefit, they both work fine for 95% of home theater applications.
