Transport looks very similar to a TC-206SD I worked on a few years ago. If I'm not mistaken, the motor shaft on this TC-K4A is 2.5mm which is kind of awkward if the motor eventually fails. Replacement motors are possible (standard fitting), but most of which are 2mm shafts.

It was very easy to hear the beating of the two 3KHz signals.

Have the same deck in a closet. Never opened and serviced. It's working, but the sound is fading in and out frequently...

Probably missed the blue ground wire while screwing the right screw of plate over the flywheel

Did you show how you lubed the eject mechanism? Mines noisy like yours was but I don't see the part where you fixed that

So did the controls get cleaned and does the unit now recognize the difference in tape types? Seems disjointed and that the unit isn't really working correctly and fully functional.

I got the Sony TC4A new in 1978, but after a few years of use (in 1981), similar to the one at the bench, it randomly sent out a very loud high-pitch signal on the right channel until one day it burned my receiver amp stage (Sansui G7500). It was random and difficult to troubleshoot. I stopped using it, but I am still curious; do you have any clue to start looking into it? I never got rid of or sold it.

1979, fetches some decent money For Sale on CL. Hmmmmmmmmmm, not a good sign to visibly see a difference in belts, that's how you fry the elect motor. Never liked SONY and there flat head screws, I mean how much money could that save ? Very surprised, counter belts usually always the 1st to disintegrate. VU magically fix themselves, crazy. Own only 2 SONY components and both of which do strange things as well.
