Picture looks really good now. These old games look fantastic on CRT. Some of the CRT shaders on MAME come close but it's still not a complete substitute.

I appreciate you uploading this video. I have 2 monitors, one is a pvm and the other a bvm. This seems like the solution to my problem. Both were shipped to me and now I'm wondering if maybe they just got rattled a little too much and caused this problem. The pvm is actually quite well, just a tad hint of purple up in the corner when displaying red in that part, damn near identical to your video. The bvm however is terribly bad, a good 1/4 of the screen is purple tinted coming from the corner but can be mostly eliminated with some magnet trickery. I've had these for a few years and have been reluctant open either one up. I can live with the pvm but the bvm was practically free and I've always thought maybe someday I would learn how to fix it. It's only got like 20,000 hours on it and I hear they're supposed to last over 100,000 hours.

Fixing convergence has got to be the most infuriating aspects of crts. If you get a chance do you have a convergence ring specific video planned at all? I'd love to see how much it can be cleaned up. Thanks.

Have you worked on any consumer flat screen triniton crts? Specifically trying to correct wavy or bowing horizontal scanlines. I corrected all the convergence issues on mine but can't seem to do anything about the geometry outside of the service menu.

Hi, sorry I have not worked on any flat screen CRTs. If the service menu and convergence adjustments don't help, then it sounds like you may need to replace the caps around the flyback and heatsinks on the main chassis.

@@RetroTechUSA okay thanks. I considered looking into replacing caps but didn't want to put in the work and not see any improvement. It seems like flat crts are notorious for these issues, at least from what I've read online. Beginning to wonder if it's just a flaw of having the screen flat instead of curved. The overall image quality is good so I can live with it for now.

@@karld4737 After watching most of Steves videos I attempted to fix geometry on my flat screen kv-36fv models and oh boy...talk about time consuming! plan to play with it all day long. I had to really flex the top of the yoke outward away from the screen as far as it would go to fix a horizontal upward bowing across the entire screen. After that you'll add a dozen magnets and a ton of strips to try and perfect it only to strip it all off and start again! Steve said it best: You can't have everything as far as geometry goes!

@@linkzz00 yea I eventually found a curved 32xbr48 and it's much better. It's the one curved trinitron model with component inputs so I no longer desire a flat screen trinitron. The image quality is great on flat models but the geometry issues are a pain to deal with.

Great video. I just recently picked up a Sony Trinitron Wega KV-36FS16, and I have a problem where blacks are crushed due to what appears to be an internal feature that probably works well on movies but not on video games. Do you know how to turn off the “auto white balance” and “dynamic picture processor”? I’m not sure if these are the settings that are causing the problem for sure, but I think they might be.

I bought a 19" tv from ebay that was dropped in shipment the tube survived but it took a nasty knock, the lower left is purple and upper left is slighly off color too, no amount of degaus will correct it the tube is damaged i wanted this tv for a tube swap on one of my arcade machines, I've adjusted most of it out via the purity rings on the neck the picture looks pretty good now you wouldn't know on normal gaming screens, only time you see it is on a solid white screen there is a litte faint patch of blue in the lower left corner now, i might take the yoke off now and see if one of the windings magnets have fallen off as ive seen this a lot on oldet tvs then just try adjusting it out with the yoke now, hopefully i can save this tube its flipping annoying because its a very healthy tube gun wise and life expectancy when i put it on me BK REJUVENATOR / CRT TESTER, color guns are on the top levels of good.

I moved my 39" consumer Wega Trinitron on it's wheeled stand and when I was done playing a tape the corner discoloration occurred, but fixed itself when I moved it back. Why would that be?

I just got a 40xbr800 and I had to place magnets around the edges of the screen inside to get rid of the color variance. However they would come back after a few hours. Will adjusting the joke fix this issue long term or am I looking at a dying tube?

Hey Anthony. I did catch some of the highlights from those games. It seems like a smart idea and cool to watch, but the games weren't vary close. I'm thinking the XFL is going to be bigger and hopefully better. I'm excited to see that. BTW, did you see Jeff Jarrett came back to RAW a couple episodes back to hit people with guitars. I had to laugh when I saw him out there working. It was cool.

I do, but it is hard to deliver CRT's without damage happening. I have a storefront in a city outside Nashville, TN where I accept CRT work/repairs.

hello! I have a sony 29kv310 that has a curve image on the top and bottom of the screen instead of straight lines. I think the yoke needs to be lifted to correct this (getting the yoke's top closer to the screen and the bottom further away). Do you agree with this???

That's how I fixed it on my KV-32FV16. Also fixed the screen tilt.
