In the full review I would love a section about gestures, people forget about the importance of what you can do with your earbuds on the run. That's why I'm still sticking to the Pixel Buds 2nd gen since they have the same gestures on both earbuds.

As for the ear tips, it's very subjective. I went through about 5 different aftermarket ear tips. it wasn't until I used a silicone type tip that I got a passing seal test using the app. For me the silicone ear tips give me a much better ANC experience. I can never get the stock foam tips to fit well. My heart was crushed when the batteries of my XM4s went to shit, so I broke down and bought the XM5s and I loved them right out of the box, but then I REALLY loved them after finding the aftermarket silicone ear tips.

Strangely xm4s worked better with 3rd party comply foam tips and xm5 work right out of the box and seal on both ears flawless. Many manufacturers claim great anc, but only xm5 and bose qcii survived nyc subway test!:) qcii arguably better, but their bass tuned earbuds sound bland and muffled. Sony is just a better all rounder.

I have been using these IEMs for a week now every day 6+ hours each day. Tried a set oh hybrid tips, and preferred the oem foam tips. Have only had a handfull of blip disconnects over the week. Coming from the cheapest set of buds i could find on amazon i have nothing of comparison. These do not hurt my wars, sound incredible, secure in my ear with a little bit of adjustment. Looking forward to your 6month review of these to see if you have similar thoughts

Loved my xm4,s when i got em until about a year later when the battery started dying alot faster in 1 bud than the other. For that reason i think i will wait a year first to see if i want the new xm5,s. If the same thing happens with them it will become known by that time. I dont want to risk paying 300 for the same thing to happen again. I will wait and see.

My xm4 battery died after 7 months. I got warranty replacement and again after 5 months the new pair battery died. It is a common issues with the xm4. I was hoping to hear about that. Did they fix it?

Got the Sony XM5s and I have to say, I'm impressed with their sound! And they fit very well, they connect fast and are compatible with Google applications and Assistant, love the multipoint connection and the ANC and Passthrough work pretty well, the only major drawback isn't even the earphones themselves, it's the app, which is not very user friendly and has poor UI in my opinion especially compared to the Sound+ app for Jabra which is way easier to navigate and understand. If you have issues with your XM5s automatically turning to Ambient mode when you put them in your ears, check the ambient sound control settings in the system tab. Because when you put them in your ear you accidentally press the left earphone and it will turn on the ambient mode.

Because of the battery issue that was caused by the 1.4 update on the xm4, I only get like 1.5 hours max on a full charge, but it can be as low as 40 minutes. So i need a new pair, but I'm hesitant to get the xm5 because sony never even acknowledged the issue. They seem good, but also considering the senn wm3 because of it. Hard to trust they won't ruin these too after a few years.

@@Nonresponder01 I'm pretty sure it was out of warranty, it was over a year old at that point. Sony was really good about replacing them for me, just had to send in the old ones. Before Sony I used Samsung buds and they gave me a serious ear infection which is a known problem but Samsung never acknowledged it and they had me on chat for two hours before agreeing to refund me. Now I'm using a pair of $20 Jlab buds and no battery problems or ear infections. 😂

Yep, Sony's customer service is terrible. My XM3 over ears randomly broke when I was taking them off one day and they refused to refund or replace - they'd only offer me a discount voucher to buy a whole new pair. I threatened legal action and then one day a brand new pair randomly turned up on my doorstep 😂 wish they'd just done that to begin with because now I really have to think before buying their products.

I use the newer earbuds as somebody who has had these earbuds for several weeks the downside is the main functioning is on the right earbud and honestly. The downside to the newer ones is the random battery drainage you get in The case even when you don't use them for hours

I have the WF-XM4 and I've had 2 different pair after time fail with the right ear buds battery. It dies while the left earbud is at 60%. Same issue with 2 different sets. Did they fix this issue? I hope you touch on it. 4:21

If you can still return them, do. The XM4 are seriously flawed. After a year the battery life diminishes tremendously and unevenly. I have 2 and I wish I could get my $500 back. It makes me question buying another Sony earbuds being that this is a known problem and they aren't helping customers who are out of warranty with this product.

Just went and bought these, after watching this vid. Was trying to hold out for a sale but I've been lusting these since they came out. This vid kicked my willpower to the curb, so "thanks" for that, Josh. Lol I've got the XM4s and while I loved their sound quality, they were just too bulky for my ears. Switched to the "Link Buds S" next and really, really like them! So, now the big question is - will I like these XM5s better than them or will I end up returning them? Getting ready to take a nice long walk with them, so... Let the testing begin!

Only thing, so far, I don't like about them is the default volume controls and that you can't customize them. (Can't believe Sony did that. Stupid)! Aside from that, I'm really enjoying the XM5s.

the xm5 are quite repairable for earbuds that small, once you open them with a heat gun the remaining glue can be easily pulled out and the battery is onot soldered to the pcb

I bought WF-1000xm5 on 7/26/23. Much improvement on my WF-1000xm4. I left my new WF-1000xm5 at my tailor's shop. On Find My Device, they were located at my tailor's shop which is about 1 mile from our house. Sent screenshot of location to the tailor, which closes at 3pm. Pray for me, $298.00 is dear and the new WF-1000xm5 are a superior successor of the WF-1000xm4. XM5 pricing is reasonable.

Can you help with connecting 2nd device(Samsung TV).I am using the Bluetooth button on the charger.The TV can see the XM5’s, but get the error make sure device is turned on. It won’t work using the second device option in the app either.

The XM4s and XM5s have the exact same type of ear bud tips with the exception of the mesh. If people actually replaced their XM4 ear bud tips through Encompass, which is the only company authorized to sell Sony parts to include foam ear bud tips. The ones they sent to me over the past year was made of foam like the XM5s, but didn't have any mesh.

Biggest reason for not upgrading and actually moving away from Sony earbuds for at least some time. Lot's of battery draining on previous model, for me kept happening even after I fixed them in official Sony store and same thing happened to my friend, so everyone should def consider buying these one or previous model. They cost a lot but issue with them is quite serious.

I’ve had the xm3,4, now 5 and link buds S. The link buds S are so comfortable it was hard to upgrade but the XM5’s are best of both worlds. The increase in call quality makes it an easier decision. The benefits of the link buds with the sound and NC of the WF series.

Linkbuds S is a pretty good pair that will get the job done. However short battery life of about 4-4.5 hrs in my testing, would not make them a good choice for me. If my xm4s did not die after 1 year and 3months, I would not be upgrading. Xm4s are good for the sound and anc, but xm5 with the larger driver sound so much better with improved anc and good phone call quality. To truly appreciate all these qualities you need 3 things: android or sony phone that support ldac codec, good seal/fit and hirez source of music sourced via streaming apps or flac files. With hirez, however, battery will drain much faster.

I use the 1000XM4's for sleeping - the noise cancellation mode completely dampens down the sound. I tried the XM5's and the noise cancellation mode did not cancel ambient sound - noise was dampened, but you could still easily hear ambient sounds. This made the useless for me - so I went back to the Xm4's.

Something to keep in mind the Sony WF1000XM4's had a battery scandal when first released for the first year or so or atleast until their latest update making all headphones with that battery obsolete with battery power and only new ones after that update were good for longer than a year, these XM5's dont seem to have the same battery scandal as the XM4's making the XM5's much more reliable in the battery department hopes this helps as i did buy like 3 pairs of the XM4's all having the same battery problems

ok so day 1 of wearing the new XM5’s & im honestly disappointed…firstly the noise cancelling is not as good as the XM4’s & my guess is it’s due to the fit not being as snug so I guess the passive NC is way worse… Also wtf happened to the voice over?!! I found that super useful, the voice prompt would tell me how much battery I had left , which device I’m connected to & also which sound mode I selected..All now Gone which for me is super annoying & a huge fail from Sony. Look it’s day 1 so maybe I need to tinker with them but being totally honest right now, I wish I’d kept my XM4’s…Sorry Sony but I’m not happy.

Hey Josh, I’m new to your channel. I have one question for you. I use an iPhone and was using the Samsung Galaxy Buds + for 2 years which I lost last week. I’m considering buying a pair of earbuds; I want good battery life, good sound quality and most importantly I receive a lot of calls so I need an earbud which I can use to receive calls without encountering connectivity issues via my iPhone and Apple Watch 7. I'd go with the AirPods Pro first given what you outlines, which will have a bit less battery than the Sonys, but you also gain more features within the Apple Ecosystem. They're not the most comfortable buds though (at least for me) which is why I end up using the Sonys. You miss out on ecosystem features but do gain better battery life, sound and noise cancellation. I'm wondering about LR connectivity - almost 4years ago, I had Sony's early wireless models and it was made so the R piece connects with my phone, and R sends music to L piece. It worked fine indoors, but once out on the train or the crowd, it picked up so much interference between L and R. It was so bad and annoying - R kept playing, but L plays intermittently. Can't bear to listen,that's why I switched to Beoplay B&O with L&R connected by wire. I'm wondering if Sony has improved at all since then - how is it when you're outside?

Is there really no other way to adjust the volume than by tapping 4 or 5 times? Because that has got to be one of the most idiotic UX design choices I've ever come across if that's the case.
