I bought the xm5 yesterday with black friday sale and i returned it and I bought the MX 4 instead. I love the female voice from my xm2 but the xm5 dont have this voice any more but the xm4 does have this voice in high quality. The headband is better, the build is more premium of the xm4 because they still have metallic elements. Somehow i still love the heavy feel from the xm2 and the tight fit around my ears but the headband is really soft and my head hurts after a while so it was time to upgrade from my xm2.

2024. Just purchased these at $274. I'm a bose girl. Never used anything else but bose until now. I received many complaints about not hearing me on the phone with bose Headsets so I needed to get one that works great for phone calls and watching movies / music . This is my second day having them. Almost returned them yesterday because they kept disconnecting ever 5 min during a movie was really annoying and I had already turned off the sensor . It continued to this issue this morning on my way to work so I decided to reset to factory. I bought it brand new but sometimes , the items still needs to perform factory reset. I LOVE thelight weight, noise cancellation and rhe sound options. The rest like options for auto detection should be removed . It's annoying when companies strive to think for us and know whats best so they auto change things. Anyways, your review also helped ty and subscribed. ❤

When you change the settings in the app (such as turning off the volume lowering when talking), does the setting stay with the headphones or the device? So if you make the app change on your phone, will it carry through when you connect the headphones to your tablet, or do you have to have the app on your tablet and configure the settings there, as well?

These are incredible headphones. They were a lifesaver during a loud flight, the noise cancellation is fantastic. The ability to use an EQ and tweak the settings to your preference and then have it save to your headphones to carry over to any other device you connect to is great as well. I've had mine since 2021 and they've been what a reach for whenever I'm on my laptop , listening to music, or traveling. They padding has held up well along with the battery life, and they're still really comfortable to wear! If you have the money to spend and treat yourself, these are worth it 🙂

​@@lakplayz9092 I have a Samsung phone so I use their Sony "Headphones" app to set the EQ settings and it'll save to the headphones and those EQ settings then carry over to my Macbook Pro whenever I want use them with it. It sounds the same as when they're connected to an android device! I do believe they also have that same "Headphones" app for ios as well, so you should be fine!

Just bought the XM4 in the January sales and I was wondering if they'd be okay in the rain (especially as I live in England), I know they aren't approved to be water-resistant but I've never had any problems with my HD350BT Sennheiser (which I'll switch from when there arrive) which also isn't approved to be water-resistant.

Ive had experience with them in light snow, and they did fairly well. but I get too nervous with headphones in the rain so I typically avoid it if I can. hope that's at least a little bit helpful.

great question but I cant say for sure since my head isn't small and I havent tried the edifiers. But I can say these xm4 have less clamp force than most beats typically do. which for me is a plus because the beats used to give me a headache when wearing them for longer periods of time. hope that helps a little bit.

How are these headphones in (heavy) rain / strong wind? Will they survive on your head, and will the rain not damage the headphones or touchscreen?

I haven’t tried them in heavy rain, but I have used them in snow. They hold up well and I didn’t experience any damage to my touch sensors. But I don’t think I’d make it a habit to wear them in heavy rain. Especially how much they cost. In windy conditions they are fine I never had them fall off my head in windy moments.

May i know how is the noise cancellation? Is it adjustable? I have an headphone with adapt anc, it sometime have this weird sucking sound when im listening to music. I dont knw if this is worth it to pick up today or the xm5?

The anc is great on these. I love using them while traveling but also when it's too loud in the office. You can adjust the anc settings in the app. I haven't tried the xm5 personally but i hear that they have just a bit better anc than these xm4s. hope that helps!

Great question! While I'm not an audiofile, I will say both do have great sound quality that can please most people. The airpods do have a unique feature that really brings the listening experience to another level in their spatial audio, but I think the xm4 beats the airpods pros in sound quality. If you need convenience on top of good sound quality I'd say the airpods pro. Regardless I think you'd be happy with either! Hope that helps!

Hii iam currently very confused between sony xm4, xm5 and sennheiser momentum 4 i want to buy an all rounder headphones one which i can use on my ps5, ioad pro and phone. I mostly play games like rdr 2 so their is no issue of playing with mic and i heard sound is better on momentums but iam really very confused because i want to buy headphones for a long run so any suggestions pls ? I hear great things about the momentum 4s, but I haven't personally tried them. I also haven't tried the xm5 for a long time. I can say that the xm4 are really comfortable and I can use them for long periods of time without being bothered by them. I've actually fallen asleep with them on before. That said from what i've heared i dont think you can go wrong with any of these options you mentioned. So which ever you chose I'm sure you will enjoy. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

I'd say they sound pretty detailed and balanced on a wire. On BT mode they have very deep and powerful lowend but the rest gets muddy.

Note: If you want to connect a Bluetooth transmitter (on a flight) don't try and use the XM4 app to do it. First turn the Bluetooth off on your phone. Turn the Bluetooth transmitter/Receiver on making sure you have it set to TX mode first. When your Bluetooth transmitter flashes to pair only then power on your headphones and continue to hold the power button until it says pairing. After it completes pairing you can then turn the Bluetooth on on your phone so you can use the XM4 app to change any functions you want to change.

Good question, I never had people complain about any sound leakage when I’ve used them in the office setting. So I just tested it with my wife. I got up to 75-80% volume before she could hear anything from about 3-5 feet away. And at that volume it’s already much louder than I typically listen to music. I understand people have different capacities for volume so it’ll probably depend on that. Hope that is even a little bit helpful for you.

Great headphones if you don't mind that the noise-cancelling starts having a hissing-like sound when active at a fully silent room after a couple of months (while the headphones aren't playing any music or sounds). If you do mind the hissing sound, headphones won't last longer than a year (and only got 1 year warranty). I used warranty claim and sent my headphones for repairs, hoping the hissing sound would get better- but it was worse when I received them back. I opened a ticket to sony and they told me (took them like a week to respond) that I should send my headphones back again to the exact same place that repaired it, for inspection. I did, and their technician said that they found no problems and sent it back. The hissing sound is still worse than when I first sent the headphones for repairs, and I feel that the noise-cancelling has also gotten slightly less effective. Their price was would be worth it if they actually lasted longer than a year and if Sony provided proper repair services. But personally, I'm not buying a Sony product again.

Sorry you had a bad experience with yours, maybe I don’t notice the hiss or maybe mine doesn’t hiss while on ANC. I have enjoyed mine for over 2amd a half years now but maybe I just got lucky with a good pair. It seems as though you may have had a bad experience with these unlike many others who have enjoyed them. Again sorry to hear that. Have you found a better headphone to replace them with?

​@@ardentlytech Hey, thanks for the reply. I loved the headphones until the issue started. I got angry at Sony after the issue got "handled". I believe that this hissing sound problem is more common than it might sound, in fact I think a lot of people who own the headphones have this hissing sound issue and they don't realize it/or maybe they do and they don't mind. Sony warranty services were awful, companies like Soundcore care more for the customer than Sony. As for what I got? I got the new Bose QC Ultra, though still haven't arrived. Hope these ones last, but unlike the Sony headphones, it appears they have been built to last (Sony pops a new model every year or two- Bose took several years).

I've had mine for almost 3 years, and they've held up amazingly. I hear a very quiet white noise sound when I have noise cancelling on in a quiet room, but that's completely normal. It's unfortunate that you had such a bad experience with yours!

@@morganmariex nope. its not "completely" normal. It wasn't happening out of the box. to mine, at least. Sony release 1 model every 2 years because they want to sell 1 model every 2 years. They don't create their headphones with longevity in mind.

I saw you working out in them - do you happen to know how they handle sweat? I am a chubby guy unfortunately and wanna use them at the gym, but I sweat so much. Wondering if the earcups will break apart after a time from all the moist.

Great question! I think they do pretty good with minimal sweat, but I am not sure how they’d do with a lot of sweat! I don’t sweat too much on my head and I don’t use these at the gym often, usually only if my earbuds are dead, so I can’t say for sure. But In the almost 3 years of using it I have no damage to my ear cups but I don’t often use these at the gym, they don’t have the most tight fit, so if you’re going any workouts like bench presses they will fall off. So honestly if you do sweat too much, I think I’d say keep these away from the gym and maybe look at a cheaper pair of over ears for the gym that you wouldn’t mind if they got a bit damaged. Hope that helps!

Overall i think these are really good headphones. I got these in Early 2022 for 300$. Anc is great not the best but close. The sound is good enough for most people. Its balanced, slightly warm with decent detail-retiveal. The feature set is pretty good. Good battery life. I have used XM4 alot. Buy them if you have the money.

I recently tested it out with my wife, and she started to hear leakage from about 3-5 away from me when the volume was about 75% which was pretty loud for me. I usually am in the 50% range, but I understand everyone has different tolerance and preference.

Well if you enjoy earbuds more than over ear headphones I’m sure the wf1000xm5 will serve you well. I haven’t tried them personally but I had a friend who sold his AirPod pros to buy the wf1000xm5 and he loves them. Personally I love having both over ear headphones and earbuds but earbuds are definitely a bit more convenient. Let me know what you decide to do!

I’ve seen them as low as 180 recently! I’d say download the honey app/ extension and you can see the price fluctuations for it. But that said 220 was much better than what I got mine for!

I have 5 pairs of earbuds and 5 pairs of over the ear headphones, the Xm4s are not in my collection, any headphone to make it in my collection need to have good call quality and the XM4s failed me on that, is a shame because the XM4s are the most feature rich headphones ever.

I have the xm5, great headphones, exceeds every expectations. But I got the white ones and they get really dirty, specially if you are an active person, or you go go the gym regularly. So I was thinking on buying the xm5 black but I saw the xm4 for just 180 and I had to guys. 180 is a steal for almost the same quality as the xm5 and more comfort (in my opinion).

I'm finding that even with noise canceling on and music going I can clearly hear people talking in the cafe. WTF is the point of these if I'm hearing people talking even with my music going in NC mode? I've done all the setup and everything so I'm super confused about this and about to just return them because this I still have no peace from other people's noise!

That’s strange! You may have a defective pair because the noise canceling on these are near perfect. Obviously it doesn’t block out 100% of the noise but it does make a significant and noticeable difference in my use. Have you used the app? Cause there could be a software update for them or maybe the noise canceling is on a lower setting? Or maybe the people around are just way too loud lol. Either way I think something is wrong with your pair or its settings. Hope this gets figured out for you, sorry that you’ve had a disappointing time with these.

XM5 is much better for attending to calls or just using the phone to call someone. Also, to me, the XM5 has a little more clarity on the sound. On form factor, XM4 is more compact and has an edge there.

I do not get why no one talks about how the multi point is so buggy on the 1000xm4's. These do not maintain any kind of device specific volume profiles, so that if I switch between my ipad and android smartphone or my windows laptop, it simply does not remember the last used volume on each, and I end up having to set the volume every time I switch. These also do not allow one to pull connections from paired devices so that one cannot connect to a different paired device without disconnecting the current device, you have to enable multipoint to do the same. Both of these are pretty normal features for much cheaper wireless solutions so I never thought it would not be there on the XM4's. Or, maybe I'm just doing something wrong.

Hmm sorry to hear you’ve had issues with the multipoint! Thanks for sharing your experience! I currently use all Apple devices so I wonder if that has anything to do with how well the multipoint works? Not sure tho! As for the pull connections thing I’m not sure I understand what you mean. I find the app to be an easy solution to selecting which two of my devices I want them to be connected to. Much more clear than other devices with multipoint in my experience. And I could be wrong but I feel like multipoint is just now becoming a more common feature in earbuds than they were back in 2020. Which is exciting but I feel like long over due.

@@ardentlytech So, by being able to pull connections, I mean that if the headphones are paired to devices A and B, but connected to only device A, I should be able to connect them with device B by connecting to the headphones from the bluetooth menu of device B, which would automatically disconnect them from device A. And all this without enabling multipoint. This is imo a more useful feature than multipoint and I use these quite often on my oneplus buds pro 2. Sadly, wh 1000xm4 does not support this. Note that this works only for paired devices. Also, it's very irksome for me to have to set my volume on the 1000xm4 each time I use them with a different device. I set a particular volume on my android, and then use them with my ipad and upon returning, the volume on my android is no longer the same. This happens with and without multipoint, and with my windows laptop as well. The only explanation that seems logical is that wh 1000xm4 does not maintain a device specific volume profile but a unified one, so that changing the volume on one device alters it for all other devices. Again, this does not happen with my op buds pro 2, which saves each device's volume level, with or without multipoint enabled. Does your saved volume not get changed when you switch from a mac to an ipad and then back again to the mac?

Thanks for explaining pull connections! I haven't even thought of doing that, but that does sound pretty useful! I've wanted to try the oneplus buds, might be a good time to do so. As for the volume changing, I can't say I've noticed any issues with it changing but I'll have to try it out and see. That does seem to be more of a very particular gripe but I understand how that can be frustrating.

@@ardentlytech The volume thing literally drives me crazy. I set my volume to a comfortable level on my android, and when I switch over to my pc, it's too low so I set it higher, and then when I switch back to my android, it's obnoxiously loud, so I have to adjust it again. That the 1000xm4's are not saving the device specific volume levels is more of a problem than I thought it could be. I've not faced this problem in any of my other wireless headsets yet. There's also the issue that the volume change control (both on the device and on the touch sensor of the xm4) does not work until and unless some media is playing, which is another odd thing.

@@zs2001 I just gave it between my iPhone and iPad, and whatever volume I set on one device carries over to the next device. I think it may not be bothering me because the volume output and levels are probably similar between the two devices, so what 50% is on the iPhone is the same as 50% on my iPad. That's just my theory as to why it doesn't affect me, but yeah, I can see that being frustrating. Also, I never noticed the volume changing only being possible when something is playing till you mentioned it.

Yeah, I use them time to time while weight lifting. But durning bench presses and workouts were you’re laying on your back, they do fall because they don’t clamp on your ears. Which I’m glad they don’t cause that makes them more comfortable for longer wear sessions.

No, you shouldn't. Do not buy the Sony WH 1000XM4's. Most youtube reviewers don't mention it, but it comes with the worst touch controls I've ever come across. Also, they have this braindead speak to chat function, which stops what you are listening to if you make too much sound. It doesn't start playing again until the minimum time in the app of 15 seconds. You can turn this function off in the app, but it randomly turns back on again for no reason. You are supposed to be able to turn it off by touching the touchpad with two fingers, but because the touch controls are terrible, most of the time this doesn't work.

Sorry you had issues with your XM4s. I did mention that I also dislike that speak to chat function in this video. But I never experienced it randomly turn back on after being toggled off in the app. I also did not have the issues with the touch controls like you did. Mine were worked just fine and as expected.

Never had no such issues with anything you have mentioned after owning them for over 2 years disabled speak to chat in the app and it's never kicked in while speaking all swipe gestures on mine work fine
