Sony Xperia 1 | Three Days Review

After 3 days with Sony's Xperia 1 flagship phone, here's my early review of this feature-packed media monster.
This super-premium mobile boasts Sony's first triple-lens camera, as well as the same 21:9 cinematic display as the Xperia 10 and 10 Plus - but here you have gorgeous 4K OLED visuals, complete with the Creator Mode for accurate output. Performance is fantastic thanks to the speedy Snapdragon 855, which also proves pleasingly energy efficient - so far I'm enjoying all-day battery life from the Xperia 1, despite the capacity not really increasing.
I've already fully reviewed the new tri-lens camera, complete with a deep dive into features such as the Cinema Pro app. It's not the best camera out there for everyday consumers but the manual control over the video capture is ideal for demanding cinephiles.

This is not a honest review btw, there is currently software issue for the present released Xperia 1, it might be fixed on actual released, but it's sad that no one actually mentioning it.

@@Llucius1 There's always software issues on Sony phones. I currently own XZ Premium and they haven't fixed problem with wifi connectivity...since release. Even though Sony are actually good phones, I love the fact they make bezels and are not making stupid holes on a screen.

Preordered mine of course. Couldn't be happier. The aspect ratio and 4k HDR screen makes compatible content look IN CRED I BLE. Absolutely in love. The camera is beautiful as well and everything runs silky smooth. Close to perfect to me.

Got mine yesterday, changed from Huawei P30 pro. The design pleases my eye way more, and it fits in my hand way better. Also the display, its just so amazing. Gonna keep my P30 for the camera, but my daily driver will definitely be the Xperia 1. Just a shame the purple version wasnt available here ;)

I got this phone a couple of days ago, coming from a P20 pro. And there are a number of surprises. Firstly the form factor makes it really stand out from the pack of square blobs. And this is not just about aesthetics. The narrow form factor makes it much more comfortable to hold over long periods of times. Secondly I'm really surprised that nobody mentioned the finish. Apart from being gorgeous, it does not attract fingerprints, so it always looked nice. I don't know what Sony have done to make this happen, but it is a real bonus that the phone looks good and not messy, if you are one (like myself) that doesn't use protectors. As far as the other stuff goes, well the screen is to die for. Laser sharp.. makes screens on other phones look ordinary. Then there is the incredible performance. Now, I don't know if I am behind the curb, but this thing flies. Admittedly, I am coming from a P20 Pro, so a couple of years old, but the performance difference between them is night and day. For example if you install apps and blink, the download would have already happened and the app would be installing. Incredible stuff. Also, it is just simply super responsive. Then the camera. Okay so it hasn't got a night mode, that makes pictures taken in the dark as if it was bright sunlight. But you do have, is a lot of manual controls and brilliant colour accuracy and resolution. In many ways, it is superior to my P20, with the exception that it lacks the 'let turn night into day' mode. And to be frank, I do miss this from Sony. But the phone makes up in so many other ways, I can overlook this omission. Well done Sony. So is this a phone for everybody? No. Not if you want to blend in with the crowd and are not prepared to learn how to use a manual camera. But if you are prepared to engage with a little bit of effort, not only will you feel better for doing so, but you will enjoy your investment far more. I like the fact that phone makes you work a little bit more harder than a typical Samsung clone. For this reason, I can't see myself getting bored with this after 5 minutes, as I would have if I had not stuck my neck out and gone with one of the 'also rans'. It's a nice phone and I hope that future updates take it from being very good to stellar and first in its class!!

I love it too, I preordered mine and everything that supports the 21:9 aspect ratio looks stunning. It seems like phones are getting taller anyway with a lot of phones becoming 18:9 I'm sure phones will stretch a little further to that full 21:9. Hopefully more content becomes compatible with that aspect ratio, especially games, because I agree that it is the way forward. Complete game changer.

If the phone gets cheaper, I will DEFINITELY buy it! This is the best Sony phone ever! It was a good experiment trying out a Chinese phone, the Honor 8 and I learnt from it: it just can't live up to the stunning experience that I had with my Sony phones prior to this Huawei glass sandwich. I absolutely loved my Xperia L and Z1 Compact! And it seems that Sony had finally fixed the issues I previously experienced using the Z1 Compact: according to the reviews, the Xperia 1 now doesn't shoot noisy photos with noticeable oil painting effect. Instead, the photos are clean and sharp. The night and bokeh modes can surely be fixed in a software update. And with these fixes to various issues with the camera, it's the best time to get myself back into the Sony ecosystem, the best ecosystem that I had ever been a part of.

Watching this video on the Xperia 1.Going from a xz compact to this ,this is abit of a chonk but the screen is amazing and the only thing that I was worried about the battery seems great ,using on and off all day for over 70% at the end of the day . Pretty much using dark mode on everything I'm able to which probably helps alot though .one thing that wasn't really mentioned was the speakers, obviously not going to be as good as a stand alone speaker ,but surprisingly loud (more than good enough to watch films or listen to podcasts ) and even at the loudest still remains super clear ,no tininess unlike other phones .

I was very lucky and managed to get my shiny new Xperia 1 on 30th , with a complimentary ps 4 chucked in by vodafone. I charged to 100 percent this morning at 0700 currently (1535) on 86 percent , had a couple of hours of music on , played a bit of fortnight and the odd bits of FB etc. Not heavy use but going well never the less 😁

Here's a good tip for the finger print sensor, or any sensor for that matter: create multiple finger profiles! It will read Ur finger print much better with higher success rate.

I have a OP7 Pro and am considering this phone as a 2nd phone for business purposes. Not sure I can get over the refresh rate since it's tough to go back to 60hz after experiencing 90hz. Hopefully more OEM's decide to up the refresh rate, until then there's no real competition for the OP7 Pro in my eyes

In love with this so far. I have two questions though. Whats the little "N" next to the camera stand for? If there is more than one face does the eye AF still function?

NFC, its for easy connection, like bluetooth headset, camera etc:) just hold the device you want to connect over det phone and it connectzz:)
