Thanks for showcasing this awesome phone. While everyone is praising Prores HDR log and the new iPhones can we take a second to appreciate that this is the most cinematic footage coming from a phone even before the edits? Hardly anyone is even challenging Sony on the highest quality slow motion at 4k120. The actual variable, optical zoom lens is also a technical feat. I kinda blame Sony a little for the smaller presence in the US not taking advantage of getting their phones on carriers and higher prices and very long launch to availability windows but I love their stubborn-ness in the right hardware areas rather than jumping on the trends that take features away from consumers like everyone else. With that being said, I'm really excited about the Google Pixel 8 Pro but if I had the money to drop on an Xperia 1 V, that would be my phone easily.

I upgraded to pixel 6 pro and it was a bad decision. I do appreciate the software updates and exclusives but it's been a frustrating experience the worst screen I've used in ages no palm rejection whatsoever modem and fingerprint sensor way less durable etc. One thing that I'm reluctant in getting the new Sony is having to wait until spring time at least for Android 14 and it's still a little weirdly optimized for that aspect ratio. I'm surprised. Sony didn't even change the stock wallpaper on their new phone even though it's still 13 it's a rather weird thing to overlook when marketing a device. I never get the candid portraits and other shots I did with the shutter, superior AF tracking and burst in Sony I'm excited to try 120fps on all lenses that's quite the feat im really surprised even Nokia doesn't get back on the ball and try because regular phase detection af isn't enough

Great video Josh! I just bought an Xperia 1 V to replace my beloved Xperia 1 III (cracked the screen, which is next to impossible to replace on Sony phones unfortunately 😢). This is actually my 4th Xperia, I absolutely love these phones. The photo and video pro apps are a lot of fun to mess around with. I absolutely love the dedicated camera button, headphone jack, notchless display, and front facing true stereo speakers. I have a glass screen protector on this one and I'm hoping to get a few good years out of it

Same happened here with my 1 III :/ accidentally cracked the screen ( a wrench fell on it.. seemed impossible in the situation, but it fell right on the edge of the screen...). Unfortunately, I had only insurance for my previous phone ( Xperia 1), so they wanted to charge me a fortune to replace it. I decided to buy the 1 V instead and so far, I have a very positive impression 👌 but have to say anyway, that if the 1 III would have survived, then I wouldn't have replaced it for another 1 or 2 yrs. It was and still is a very good device 😁 it's still working btw, but the crack on the screen is a bit annoying, especially because it cracked more over time... And yeah, glass protector here also 🤣🤣

all google does is take away more and more features to make it like iphone but also because they're incompetent to develop for their non industry processor so development is mostly isolated to just people at google hence all the bugs and lack of features compared to say high end bbk phones (settings are convuluted af but they have the features every power users needs and they work). pixels are trash for their price unless you're 50 plus years old, get with the times

I've never wanted to take pictures and record videos more than since I've got my 1 V. As you said it encourages you to do more I lost this when I got my 13 Pro, but with the Xperia it came right back. Video Pro is so good that it's now my go to device to record video, instead of my MirrorLess And even when you consider more "usual" smartphones features, I can't really find something to complain about. Sony's got on this Mk 5

The problem with Xperia phones nowadays is the price, where you can get either better phone with half the price or just get a proper DSLR with a similar price. Thats the problem with the xperia market right now

Great hardware, but the software could have been a lot better. Not to mention the updates, or lack thereof. You only get two OS updates and three years worth of patches. You can forget about getting camera software updates for it once a new model is out. Sony pretty much only support their latest model. Other than that, it's a very good phone.

Sony 1 V is almost the best device on the market but now is in the same league as Samsung and Apple.

In lots of ways, Sony is already ahead of the "leaders" in terms of capabilities like 4K 120fps HDR recording, light sensitivity equivalent to 1" sensors, 30 FPS burst and 20 FPS burst with HDR, 60 hz auto focus and exposure, 4K 120hz OLED screen, a true zoom lens, adaptive crop hybrid stabilization, focus breathing compensation, two stage shutter button, 12 GB RAM on the base model, SD card slot and headphone jack.

only one thing I miss one trying to "actively" record while moving is lack of OIS and EIS for 4k60fps recording, other than that I love the quality of photos and videos which are not over processed and over sharpened with aggressive HDR and so called night mode (iPhone and Samsung for instance). Long time I was considering to buy Xperia, and now with Snapdragon 8gen2, it was a trigger and totally no regrets. Amazing device.

Returned my 15 Pro Max because im really disappointed about the camera , especially the extreme lens flare in video. I mean how the hell is a pro user gonna deal with that lens flare ???? Payed almost € 2K (1 TB model) what a joke. Even the photos are better IMHO on the 1V. Glad tot be back on the 1V 🙂

Its wise to use filters eitherways and a gimbal. That way, you can get proper shutter speed and framerate in videos.

I came very close to pressing the buy button on the Xperia 1 V but ended up not doing so. I really wanted the get it for the cameras as it had more focal choices than the iPhone but the move to Android was what stopped me in the end. I just don’t trust Google and Android for privacy but I’m so ingrained into iOS and macOS that it would have been a huge move for me. Enter the iPhone 15 Pro and, in particular the Max model, and I’ve now gotten a camera choice that will keep me in the fold. Yes, it might not be as good as the Xperia 1 V camera wise but it’s an improvement nonetheless the less. I felt your video and photography was a tad over exposed for my taste but it was a good review nonetheless the less. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

can you make a single shot with the physical shutter button while you use the basic camera app but have burst mode on? this is my biggest nuisance with the xperia 5ii. it always makes 2 photos then :( and with that also a new map on the phone. pretty annoying. it would have been nice if they just gave the burst mode a half second delay so you can make both with the physical shutter button
