I got a Sony Xperia 1 IV after watching your review. I really like the natural look and not so over processed images it delivers, during the day time its amazing. I find indoors, low light and night time it can still perform but you start to see the difference and to be honest with the hardware its using i do believe we can get better quality images from it that we are seeing if it gets the right updates. The problem that i have had and forced me to buy another phone ( pixel 7 pro) was the last 6 months of updates the signal on the wifi, GPS and phone got weaker and weaker. What i have found quite interesting is testing the Xperia against the Pixel, both have much more stream lined camera functions. Sure the Xperia can use a pro function but you are not bloated with pointless features.

I went from the Xperia 5ii to a Google Pixel 6a. Unfortunately my 5ii died so had to look elsewhere and was low on cash. But Ow man i hate this pixel 6a . Deffinitly gonna buy an Xperia again. Just saving up some money first.
@luc7976 Жыл бұрын
The Pixel pro phones actually have a larger main sensor and combined with their computational processing they are really great at low light (but in daylight I find often too aggressive with HDR and saturation). In theory the 1 V should now perform similarly with 1 stop better sensitivity. I never had issues with Sony software updates affecting HW. That's odd, maybe factory reset could have helped.
@runninginthe90s75 Жыл бұрын
@namelesssnitchy To be honest Google Pixel is very overrated and trash. They are as good as paid/biased reviewer claimed. Not to mention since google tensor chipset was made by samsung the thermal is so bad, it feels like the phone can cook.

Ive the IV and have used Sony phones for many years , the camera jump once the Xperia line came was astonishing Im using the MK IV, after all the updates it has subtle improvements I do hope Sony will bring the ui update to the MKIV and add any image optimization improvements that they can with current hardware/software It was such a late release with the IV, the next generation jump ,as welcome as it is , i still feel the MKIV has plenty to still offer. My only gripe on the IV is the widely variable signal reception but most times i use hot spots for wi fi calling so its not a major issue. It was great to see a comparison between the two !

@newandroid14 Жыл бұрын
The only reason why I got my IV was the battery life. I've had the IV for over a week and used the cameras a few times to see how better it is against my II...charged it a few times. My II would need charging twice a day (mainly social media, Facebook, Instagram MS Teams). The IV would last at least 2-3 days. The cameras... incredible. I did a side by side comparison yesterday and was blown away at how better the IV is... and that was using Auto mode. Only thing I personally found is, although the IV is brighter than the II, the speakers weren't as loud and strength of the vibration. Other than that both devices are brilliant. The IV makes me want to take photos and use all of the lens and use the zoom on the 125mm lens

I just upgraded from my 5 mark II to the 1 mark V and I'm loving it. The 5II was already my favorite Xperia ever since the Acro S and now the 1V is taking that torch. @MarkVictorson Жыл бұрын
Good time of day Juan! My main question. I've left it under the previous video, and I'll repeat it here too. A lot of phones have a claim for high peak brightness, but they don't sustain it in the sunny environment. I've ran a number of tests leaving a bunch of phones outside shooting 4k30 for 30 minutes at the same time, and even the iPhone dropped brightness so low that it was difficult to tell what's happening in the viewfinder. Sony 1iv was the first phone to drop brightness so low nothing was visible on the screen. And later, it gave up as it got too hot. Huawei Mate 50 pro has the same issue, and even the Xiaomi 12S Ultra ran too hot to continue shooting, but at a much later point in time. Asus Zenfone 9, Vivo X90Pro+ and ZTE Nubia Z50 Ultra were among the phones that didn't drop the screen brightness below the comfortable level. Now, does the new Xperia sustain screen brightness when shooting photos and videos outside? How does it perform compared to other 8gen2 phones?

Does seem like those bezels are getting even slimmer and yet have front camera and better front speakers. My only question is whether notification LED is still there cause some people are questioning whether it has been removed or not. Kudos to you man, you're great at reviewing the nitty gritty of tech rather than just the basic overview stuff. A pretty good upgrade but given how I'm not really into phone cameras, I do look forward for a few more options to upgrade to at the end of this year, namely the Xperia 5 V and the ZenFone 10, and if not convinced by both, the ROG Phone 7 remains the most likely upgrade unless I somehow get a good deal on the 1 V. Tell you what, if you somehow get your hands on all the phones I mentionned, since I'm much more into phone haptics given I usually tend to type instead of dictate, what about a haptic comparison between those phones? Including vibration recording, haptic feedback recording, and your personal opinion on which feels the best at haptics and which is the more likely to garenty you're not missing any notification without a smartwatch. It of course could bePatreon exclusive stuff, just like camera deep dives and shootouts. I was just thinking about another kind of insentive, I've been craving for that kind of comparison enough that paying for it in some way would be no problem for me.

I have the 1MIII and think about buying a new phone and are deciding between S23 ultra and the 1MV. I like the Sony a little more but the 2 years of software update is a bit harsh these days. Is Sony still only providing 2 years of software update with the 1MV?

I have 3 Sony phones, XZ Premium, Xperia 1, Xperia 1 III, they are still run well....and all can use a 1 TB micro sd cards! I'm temped to buy the Mark V as I can still use me Audio-Technica M50X studio monitor headphones

Compare it with Samsung and Huawei p60pro, and does it get hot when filming in direct sunlight?
@SomeGadgetGuy Жыл бұрын
Of course it does. All phones get hot recording in the sun. What matters is whether it will last longer, and it definitely will last longer than the 8Gen1 powered phones.

I've even managed to make a snapdragon 765g oppo overheat by doing that (Spanish heatwave on a beach was apparently too much for filming + supplying hotspot to my friends 🤣) Thermal management only works if the heat has somewhere in the external environment to go.

If theres no more notification led, is there notification light notification on the edges of the phone? Contemplating buying this phone or go the Mark 4 route

The biggest thing I need to know is, how is the camera software for point and shoot? Because I feel like that's the biggest down for me when I have my 5 IV. Pointing and shooting just didn't give the nice processed effect I'm used to from Pixel phones or my S23 Ultra. Has the software been improved for 'casual' use? I'd like to take my phone out for family outings and snap a great photo without taking 5 minutes to set up the camera settings.

Wouldn't a gcam port on it?

Planning to upgrade to the 1 V from my 1 III because the battery health isn't the best, and the fingerprint reader is totally dead. I have to use a passcode to unlock my phone now... Apparently it's a common issue.

This vid convinces me to get this Xperia 1 V to upgrade my Xperia 1. 🤓

Ya know... That sounds like a REALLY nice upgrade 😁

That upgrade is gonna be insane! 😮🎉😅 It's definitely going to feel like you have a phone of the future with electronic sim (so you no longer need a sim card in some countries) and the most current up to date android updates!

@@SomeGadgetGuy yeah I think so too. 🤞🏿it will come soon.

This is exciting. Not for the 1 V but I've been using the 5 ii. I prefer a smaller phone & 1080p is enough for me. Also don't want to spend over a G on a phone. I'm hopeful similar improvements for the 5 V.

Nice 💪 unfortunately my Xperia 5ii died like a month ago. Bought google pixel 6a to overcome to the summer (i was low on cash 😭) but Ow what do i miss that 5ii. Superb phone. Now gonna save up money again and maybe after the summer buy a sony again and give this pixel to my mom

Juan, huge thank you for posting your videos, they are extremely educational and sincere. Owning Sony 1 - II (You've really convinced me to get one :) and iPhone 13. Sony's battery has degraded in 3 years to a point where I do need new phone. Watching reviews everywhere on Mark V and love it. The only thing that makes me a bit puzzled though is video recording quality from device. While it looks awesome in close shots (i.e grass, flowers, etc.), almost everything shot from a distance looks "Mushy" and I am not sure whether it is an issue with software i.e. preproduction samples with lower bitrate than needed, hardware (sensor/lens quality) or something completely different. I do love S-Cinetone mobile, that is not about color reproductions. Could you, perhaps, emphasize video recording quality and quality degradation going from 4K30 to 4K 120 to show which are the best settings for high quality video shooting (and recording examples from different apps, as this also may impact recording quality) Thank you in advance, kind Regards, your viewer :)

Dang. If this had come out a year ago, I may have chosen it over my s22 Ultra. As a photographer, Sony's software experience on their phones is something to be envied.

Thanks for another great review. Any macro capabilities? Minimum focus distance? How smooth is the switch between focal lengths while shooting video? I am seriously thinking of supporting my Alpha series gear with an Xperia. Any ideas if its photo editing software supports fuji and hasselblad outputs or I will still need to google download their own software.?

No macro, and they removed notification LED, a very useful feature for me.

It would be nice to find out if WiFi calling works on Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile on mk5 . I have mk3 and WiFi calling only works on Google Fi.
