For a bit of increased speaker volume on the Xperia X Compact, do the following: Settings app/Sound/Audio settings/Sound effects(make sure certain other options are disabled in order to access Sound effects)/Equalizer/ Set all 5 equalizer band controls to maximum. Back out of Settings app. This setting provides a noticeable increase in overall sound volume.

Favorite phone ive owned. Bought mine for $375. Works perfect and super easy to use. Amazing battery life. Sony is very smart for making this very nice small phone, unlike every other company that loves making big clumsy ugly phones. With this Sony i can drink a beer in one hand and text someone in the other. No problemo. And the overall quality is great. A very premium looking and functioning phone. I just felt the need to shut these haters down that have never even used this phone. Ive had an iphone, samsung, htc, huaweii, and nexus, and this Sony is my favorite phone no contest. This phones sweet. Unless you love giant phones that dont fit in your skinny jean pockets and always need 2 hands to hold and drop 8 times a day, then you should get this phone.

Hahaa. I'm watching this on my Z Ultra that I use as a tablet. Sony makes some great phones nonetheless, the only downside about them is the price and since they don't have such big advertising investments, people tend to look to alternatives

This thing is secretly waterproof, it shares the sim tray, the ports and the speakers, this is due to cost issue: it's cheaper for sony to use the same parts instead of getting different, non waterproof ones. This also expains why the speakers are quiet: the waterproof design makes them quieter than usual. Sony didn't advertise it's waterproof ability so that if they get water damaged, sony can walk away without taking responsibility

This phone is fantastic in my opinion and well worth the price, especially now that they have come down, but even at $500 I'd probably spring for it. Sony is as far as I can tell the only manufacturer that makes a compact phone that has a competent processor and runs very smoothly in all activities. I also wish that these reviews would get updated to reflect the things that have been found out about them. The fingerprint reader works perfectly in the US version with a simple firmware change. The phone is also water-resistant, it simply is not certified in any other market other than Japan, so if you get water damage, Sony will not replace it, but if you dunk it in the toilet it will be fine. My only real complaint about it is the plastic it's made from. But considering any sane person puts a cover on their phone once they get one it's really a non issue.

The water proof feature is a joke. I got an xperia z3 and in 7 months the screen started to get unglued and i only exposed it to water 3 times.

Sony doesn't say it is "water proof''. The Z3 is water resistant. That means it most probably will survive a little splash of water but nobody guarantees you that. And actually my Z3 Compact is still alive after 2 years of showering with me lol. The thing is that if I damage my phone while showering, nobody would repair it for free, it isn't in the warranty policy.

I have the US version; flashing the UK ROM onto it fixes the lack of fingerprint sensor (it is a software issue after all). While $500 for this thing is hard to stomach, under $400 is better. In my experience, this phone performs as fast or faster than the Honor 8 (also a great phone). I'm really loving this little thing.

Flashing it over to Uk doesn't effect bands right? Willmyphonework.net doesn't have the X Compact listed but has the XZ listed and that works with both AT&T and T-Mobile.

As far as I know. I have it on AT&T and it seems to work well. Things to note: there are four bars in the triangle for signal instead of five; threshold for displaying full signal may be greater than normal US indicator; security patch is still from June (auto-updater indicates there's nothing more available).

The lack of IP rating I believe is really marketing more than anything else, there have been several water 'tests' conducted on the new non-rated X phones and they have performed similarly to the older rated Z5 phones. This has led many to believe that Sony has simply removed the rating in litigation friendly markets as miss-use of a waterproof rating leaves them open to warranty claims. This would explain why they retain the IP rating in their Asian markets where litigious culture is far less common.

If a phone manufacturer removes the headphone jack, they would replace it with USB-C connector which is universal and a world-wide standard. The companies who produce cables and headphones won't have to pay Apple (per say) huge fees for the connector. For example a USB-C to 3.5mm jack adapter would cost like 1-2$, not $10 and the headphones would be the same price as the normal 3.5mm headphones. Lenovo removed the jack before Apple with the Moto Z, HTC introduced unibody metal designs, Apple is buying their camera sensors from Samsung, and Microsoft made the first smartphone. I don't really know what are you talking about...

such a shame I love the Compact range and have a Z3 compact which I still use quite a bit especially when I'm on a night out and don't want a bulky phone spoiling the line of the pockets of my trousers or selvedge jeans. The main selling point to me was the fact the Z Compacts do not compromise on specs. Now they have dropped an inferior processor that's the kicker for me. Couple that with the full plastic build and no water proofing it definitely a no go. I may get a Z5 compact as a spare at some point if I see any decent price drops now this disappointment has come out.
