This is not 0.45X but 0.7X at most, like so many others wide angle adapters on the market. And in any case, the quality is really embarrassing.

Look into the upcoming ZV-10!
@TIMagicProd
@TIMagicProd 3 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with your findings, but the bottom line is that there are just too many pain in the butt workarounds just to make the ZV-1 usable for vlogging. The lack of a wider angle lens and a more effective stabilization system make this camera less than usable for vlogging. The stabilization on the Osmo Action and GoPro Hero 9 would be ideal with the wider angle lens. Doing anything in post adds another layer to the process. The issues with the action cameras are that they are not very good still cameras like the ZV-1 due to the smaller sensors and cannot record in stereo.
@SanjaySchulz

I totally agree with you and I no longer have the ZV1. A camera that you may be interested in is the upcoming ZV-10 which is basically the same as the ZV1 but allows you to change lenses and has an APS-C sensor. There are plenty of leaks online already and it should be released sometime this month.

According to what I've read so far, I have not seen anything that points out a much more effective IBIS similar to that of GoPro or DJI. While the focal length issue could be addressed in the new ZV-E10, when it comes to vlogging, then you run into another issue - size and weight. I was at a recent vlogging trip to Disneyland and I was totally exhausted trying to hold up the Panasonic GH5 (12-35mm F2.8 lens) for more than an hour.

Thanks for checking out the video. Sony reused the same lens for the ZV-1 that they used for my RX100V so both cameras suffer from the same disadvantages. I checked the video description and the timecodes work on my end. Maybe it's a temporary glitch.

@SanjaySchulz

Unfortunately, I haven't tried using a polarized filter or any additional equipment with the Zomei lens. My concern is that it will add too much weight to the end of the camera lens since the Zomei lens is already quite heavy.

With the ibis, battery issue, limited lense, Idk might as well get a great condition A6600 for about 1000$ on the aftermarket? If those things weren't an issue and had the wide lense to begin with + it has the ability to use as a webcam with just the USB it would've been an instant buy.
@SanjaySchulz

Great points! However, the IBIS is not as good as you think for video. Wait for the successor of the A6600 that has stabilization via the gyro metadata. Or get the new entry level full frame camera coming this month called A7c.

Thanks Gaston. I have watched plenty of your videos before when the ZV1 was still a rumor. I am waiting on a full frame or APS-C camera from Sony that can record the gyro data for stabilization so I can ditch the gimbal and also use my lens collection including the Sony 10-18mm f4 or that same Sigma 16mm f1.4. Unfortunately, Sony has delayed the release of their cameras ( I know because I've been watching your videos regarding all the Sony rumors lol) so I decided to pickup the ZV1 today because it was the last day of the introductory price. However, I will hold off on opening the package for the next 30 days to see if Sony does release a similar alpha camera. If they do then I can return the ZV1 for a full refund 😃

Hi Brian, a macro lens is different than a wide angle lens. I know that cell phones use the wide angle lens to also take macro shots but this is done using software trickery. Some of these wide angle lenses come in 2 pieces, one for wide angle shots and one for macro shots. I haven't tried one of these combination lenses yet but here is one that may work: amz.run/49r5

Awesome hack !! 2 major questions though. 1. Can you provide a distortion sample test in video recording a grid drawn on a sheet of paper ? 2. Can I mount filter on front ?
@SanjaySchulz
@SanjaySchulz 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! 1. Unfortunately, I no longer have the RX100V nor the ZV1 but you can perform a distortion test by taking a screenshot of any of my examples in the video, open it with your editing software and enable the ruler. In Adobe Premier Pro, Control + R brings up a ruler and you can drag and drop the ruler line into your image to check for straightness. 2. It does have a 52mm filter thread but the more weight you add the more likely it will damage the motor that extracts and retracts the lens. It will eventually become so bulky that a much better choice would be to buy the new Sony ZVE-10 which will be announced in a few weeks and is basically the same camera but allows you to change lenses so you can pair it with the newly released Samyang 12mm F2 or the Tamron 11-20mm F2.8. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pX7MeYWtbtyhb7M

Hey, does the wide angle filter affects the gyro stabilization? (I ask this because Catalyst browse has the focal length information from the metadata of the video file so I assume it moves the image around to stabilize by considering the field of view but it doesn't know that you are using the filter so it might causes problems)
@SanjaySchulz

What a great video, I’m glad I’m found it! I have an RX100 MkIII. I’m not interested in the ZV1 for my purposes but I am very interested in the wide angle lens. Do you think the same adaptor you used for the RX100 MkV will fit the RX100 MkIII?
@SanjaySchulz
@SanjaySchulz 4 жыл бұрын
It looks like the front of the lens on the earlier RX100 cameras is slightly different. I think I found a filter adapter that will work for your camera. The good news is that it is also a 52mm adapter like mine so you can attach the same wide angle lens. www.ebay.com/itm/201600058960
@gregsimmons1709
@gregsimmons1709 4 жыл бұрын
Sanjay Schulz Yes, the opening at the front of the lens seems a bit larger on the RX100MkIII, which was my concern. Thanks for the link to an alternative product. I have seen the Kiwi adaptors before because I’ve also wanted to fit a circular polarising filter on my Sony. However, your demonstration with the wide angle lens has really inspired me to think more about a lens adaptor. The simple way you stood and put the lens on and off again repeatedly really made it easy for me to see the benefits. I’m a sound engineer getting into filming (video) my recordings, so I don’t have a great background in optical things, how crop factors changed in relation to sensor sizes and lenses, and so on. Your video and demonstrations made a lot of things fall into place for me. Thanks again! :-)

@@gregsimmons1709 I bought that very same Kiwi adapter for my old RX100 II to be able to add a variable ND-filter. Was a bit nervous that the adapter wouldn't stay on the camera as it sits there thanks to a sticky tape, but so far so good. Has worked just fine for a year now. :)

HI @Sanjay - one other noob question -- I see the LCD panel opens to the side. When I keep my eye on it, my eyes appear slanted since I'm looking to the left. How do you deal with this? Is the side-opening panel a bug compared to a top-opening panel?

If you a are vlogging and trying to maintain eye contact with your audience try using sunglasses. The viewer will never be able to tell when you are looking at the screen. For them it will always look like you are looking at the lens. However, you may need to try different sun glasses as some do not allow you to read the screen anymore because they are coated with something.

I used a camera with the same lens system which is the RX100V with a 24-70mm F1.8 lens. There are a few videos of people testing a wide angle lens with the ZV-1 and did not seem to have any issues either since the lens is the same. The autofocus system is more advanced on the new camera but does not appear to be impacted based on the reviews I've seen.

The closest one to perfect is the Sony ZV-1 if you add the wide angle lens and a powerbank. I am going to wait for a new Sony full frame camera or APS-C camera such as A7S3 or A7000 that records the gyro metadata to stabilize the footage in post. That way I have a camera that can use different lenses but has all the same benefits as the ZV-1.

Want a camera that works out of the box, noT a Frakencam!

This is what everyone is waiting for. The best thing to do in my opinion is to buy a camera that is as close to perfect as possible and then customize it to address whatever flaws still need to be addressed. Or wait another year and hope that the ZV2 may be the perfect camera.

Hi is the stabilisation active or the standard? Just checking :)
@SanjaySchulz
@SanjaySchulz 4 жыл бұрын
The strongest stabilization on the ZV1 is active which is equivalent to intelligent active on the RX100V. This is why I performed all tests with intelligent active stabilization.

The ZV1 would be a backup to your GoPro? For most people it would be the other way around 😅

For the Lens, how come you chose the 52mm? I see they offer up to 77mm.
@SanjaySchulz
@SanjaySchulz 4 жыл бұрын
You need to choose the lens that will fit the filter that you stick in front of the lens. The 52mm filter and lens combo worked perfectly with no vignetting at all. If you go bigger it will add unnecessary bulk to an already large lens.

@@JerridBoutto You're welcome! Sony is still running the introductory promo price of $50 off for the camera or $100 off for the vlogging kit with remote tripod until June 26th. I am going to wait until the last day hoping they are releasing a full frame or APS-C camera that records gyro data for stabilization in post like the ZV1 has.

@@SanjaySchulz I already have the camera and Vlogging Kit! just looking at the wide angle lens and adaptor! I'll be bummed if they come out with a Full Frame so quickly haha!

'ALMOST' is BS. show this on the zv1, not another. this is clickbait.

The lenses on both cameras are 24mm-70mm and crop in when you apply stabilization. There are a few comparison reviews on KZbin that will go into more detail.

Love this. Want to use in my online business to stream on zoom and into my FaceBook groups... seems like a simple camera to use and recommend to my students and audience 🙌🏾

I think this camera may be overkill for just a webcam. A better choice may be a GoPro for about 1/3 of the price unless you want the blurry background and more options to change the color composition of your video feed.
