😱 Sony ZV-1f vs DJI POCKET 3 vs iPhone 15 Pro Max (fails on a tripod also)

I prefer sony zv 1f. Natural color & color accuracy. Maybe it's not perfect. But for me it's more cinematic. Not great in stabilization. But you can fix it.

yes, in a very controled environment the ZV-1f produces good quality, not extremly better than the iphone or pocket but better. Problem is, I find it to be lacking hard in some areas and those areas hurt if you are a run and gun type of setup. It is priced like the pocket 3 that is the problem. I would not use it as a vlog camera unless in a talking head setup.

I use the ZV-1f for exactly this! Only talking head shots. Maybe some B Roll if im filming scenes where im using my phone

yup, I think set in a studio, not moving is probably the best scenario. But sony is presenting it as a vlogging revolution and you might be tricked by all other youtubers that this is indeed a good camera for vlogging. If you start moving it, footage will break down...

@@VictorReviewsGarage yup I completely agree ! Even if you use the product showcase mode its starts acting weird. It’s very slow at focusing on the product and focusing back on you.

If you had of turned your Sony ZV-1F's Product Showcase mode on you would have had no problem focusing in on those items. I had to freeze frame that scene to see that you had that feature turned off.

hey man, not sure what exact minute you are referring to but in principle I pushed the product showcase mode sevaral times from clear to defocus several times and it did not produce the desired outcome. The pocket 3 though had no such button and does absolutely great without one. Don't you think we should hold sony to a higher standard on this one?

I don’t care how much better the image quality the Sony is over the pocket 3. The pocket 3 is easily the most convenient camera to bring around and use. I’ll happily sacrifice image quality for a camera I’m willing to use more.

Absolutely, and the image quality is not like double better, you basically for a smidge better you lose the flexibility of telling a story in multiple scenarios, traveling/moving around/interviews and such. Versatility over quality and film more! Do you own a pocket 3?

For my side gig, I use a pair of regular ZV1 cameras for studio style work with controlled theatre lighting. For those cameras, the flexibility of the zoom lenses and the very good IQ of the Sony makes all the difference. Yes, I do use tripods for that work. But, for moving shots, the DJI is king and my iPhone 15 Pro is a close second. I get what Sony was trying to do with the ZV1f, but it was too little, too late. Would I buy one? Maybe if I needed a fixed mount camera and the fixed lens simplified the workflow, such as an overhead mount. And I'd buy it used from someone who bought it to vlog, got frustrated, and decided to sell it at a loss.

ahahahaha brilliant. this is the best comment I have read all day. Could have used it as a conclusion for my video. The zv1 Mark I is a better camera than the zv-1f for sure. In my country it is less than 90$ more new and cheaper Second Hand. Agree on the pocket 3. Thing is, I went on a trip (an episode on this channel) with the zv-e1 / pocket 3 / iphone, and found myself shooting MOSTLY on the iphone :( I just had it on hand, easy to pick up. the pocket 3 always was in some sort of pocket. Hope I explained it correctly :))

Are you in the US? I use a VZ1F as a studio cam and am considering a second for my studio cam 2, am currently using a laggy over HDMI iPhone 15 pro max. At $350 new on sale these are good cams for me and the cropping zoom is good enough for my use. Just iPhone does kill it if HDR but all too hard to match shots and do production I just want to switch on my 4port HDMI card and be done.

@carasiaone A problem with integrating phone footage is the variable frame rate. Leads to sync problems. My ZV1 camera as don't do that. Yes regarding being in the US.

The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is the most unique camera with a 1inch sensor. Vlogging, subject tracking, etc. The Sony however seems rather pointless, especially if you’re seeking “cinematic” I would suggest their APSC sensor cameras. Idk the convenience of the pocket 3 just kills anything else with the same size sensor in my eyes.

for sure for sure. Do you own the pocket also? The pocket 3 is just an amazing package. This is why I said I can't buy the Sony zv-1f . It has good video quality but it is not complete in what it must achieve: be a vlogging camera!

Yes but product showcase mode should avoid this situation that is why it exists. Dji pocket 3 does not have that problem. It’s about building great products in the end. And they can build great products since i just bought another sony 😂

Yup this is the Reason I shoot all my videos for YT with a Frickin phone :D The Exposure,Focus,Stabilization, Dynamic Range on EVERY ''real'' camera is fcking worse than on a smartphone.. These cameras are only good for Controlled Studio Shooting with Studio lights, this is where they are actually better... No wonder Smartphones Destroyed the Camera market. DJI is only decent because the tech in it is actually extremely similar to a Smartphone. I'm waiting for a DJI to make a camera with APS-C Size sensor and all its tech the DJI Pocket 3 have...

man, absolutely. What iphone do you use? I even bought a full frame camera on my trip last week to upgrade my vlog approach. literally the iPhone is better, more discrete, lighter and brings basically 80% of the story from the full frame camera. This channel is and will be built mainly on iphone / pocket 3. Even though I found a light full frame camera setup (I will make a video about it) still the iphone offers better focus and stabilisation on quick run and gun situations.

For quick run and gun situations, and vlogging, I can see that a phone makes sense, for most other professional recordings though, no. Dynamic range, lens options, lens quality, Image quality and flexibility, Vastly better on a proper camera. The consumer camera market has pretty much gone, but the Pro market is doing just fine, and will mostly likely stay that way due to physics, there is a limit to how much light is gathered on such tiny sensors, and heavy software processing can only take it so far.
