The problem has nothing to do with the hassle of using software and everything to do with the fact that the software crops the image to do this.

I would also add that, in addition to increasing shutter speed for shots to be stabilized in Catalyst Brown, you should be shooting at a higher frame rate, i.e. 30p as opposed to 24p in order to minimize jerkiness of any lateral motion through the frame. Thanks for the great instructive video!

How do you make that icon appear in the upper right, so that you know the clip can be stabilised ?

Turn off all image stabilization in the camera and for the lens (if applicable)

Hi, Mark, I am following you because I am new to Sony ZV-1 and Lumafusion and finally I found a valid source of information clear and usable. I have a question because I am owning a Hohem Multi gimbal and the Sony "tripod", now I want to switch all my editing in my iPad pro (drones footage and Sony) and now I am in trouble thinking if I do really need the gimbal or I can stick with the Sony tripod instead and us catalyst browser (It is usable with iPad Pro ?). I am wondering how to make my regular "walking vlog" footage to be more stable? I know with active (using the ZV-1) it crops in way far when shooting at 4k, so I stick with standard, but that has some shakes. I do a lot of walking reviews around shops and cars and my footage is just shaky and due to the fact the camera is only at arms length, I end up being way too zoomed (cropped) in, would a better grip help stabilize the camera?

I would think about using a gimbal, or using active stabilisation, then using walk stabiliser in Premier or something similar in Final Cut Pro

Please locate the "metrics.xml" file in each of these two locations: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Sony\CatalystRenderProcess\1.0 C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Sony\Catalyst Browse\2020.1 Right-click on the file and choose Open With to open the file with Notepad. This should allow you to edit that file. In that file, locate this line of text: Change that line to this instead: Save the file, and once you have changed that line in both metrics.xml files, try rendering a stabilized clip again.

hi, is catalyst browse reduce the image quality? i see when you crop in 10-15%, the video size reduce a few, and at the end you can export back in 1080p original. that confuse me a little.

When you load and stabilize the footage, how much time does it take to run the footage through the software? I have a Sony ZV 1 and the built-in stabilization sucks. I don't want to deal with another awkward and cumbersome gimbal situation. I tried running my footage through the stabilization of my current software but it took loads of time with little to no improvement so switching to Catalyst Browse might be my next move if it doesn't take forever to stabilize with the software.

Hey yes to be honest it takes far too long, it's fun to try it out, but I wouldn't rely on it or use it. I film too much and it take 5 mins for each clip. You need to make sure to film around a shutter speed of 1/300 or higher for the best results.

Hi - when you say download your footage to the T5 - you would need a laptop to do that - why not just put your sd card into your laptop?

Hey Mark, you don’t need a laptop for that, I just have a USB Dongle that has USB-C and an SD Card slot so trim the iPad you can move the footage direct onto the T5. Hope this helps

Hey Mark we have an Editors Keys single (keep subbed to the channel as launching it next week) You plug it into your iPad and then if you plug in an SD card you can view them in Files just like on windows or Mac. You can then drag from SD to external drive or visa versa

I bought it a few days ago and today I am going to refund it sadly! why? the poor stabilizing feature even in Active mode. it is very shaking and not comparable with my DJI pocket 2 with amazing gimble. although as Sony shooter I love to have it because of size, build quality, perfect handgrip, wide range customization, good for daylight photography, etc. but I tried a lot and could not find how to take video when I am just normal walking to be in acceptable footage! any solution to stop me to refund? thanks

Hey yes its not perfect, good for a camera of this size, but won' compete with the DJI as that has a gimbal built into it.

Definitely it is much better for controlling, photography, etc as a complete camera but this issue is annoying me a lot. After watching your video and others, I downloaded this software and result was good but Export in trial version was not working. That’s why I purchased monthly plan to use it in full aspects but unfortunately couldn’t activate it and sent an email to them, now waiting till tomorrow for their reply. However if footages will be something like yours, I think will be acceptable to keep the camera (despite of extra monthly payment and spending time for post for videos and photos both). What do you think?

How do you have this app configured? Mine is running SUPER slow. I have a Ryzen 3900x, 2070 Super, and 32gb of ram and I can't get smooth playback. A 13 second clip took an hour to export.

That is what Sony wants us to believe. The reality is that a gimbal is absolutely necessary because that camera has the worst stabilization ever seen and stabilizing with external software is slow and ineffective.

Hey you need to make sure you're recording with stabilisation on the camera fully turned off, otherwise it won't be available. Hope this helps.

DONT USE THIS WITH HD FILES files from ZV-1 - the results are not good. Even if you export using a manual setting and reduce the amount of stabilisation to zero the reduction in file quality on export is really noticeable and not really usable all. Great results with UHD though.

Thanks, yes I'd agree with you the HD results don't look quite as good. We've had some OK ones, but it defiantly helps to use 4K. To be honest for all the hassle of using Catalyst browse, we will stick with the active stabilisation. We've got a new ZV1 video coming out next week, we have fixed a variable ND filter to it and it makes such a difference to the shots, so keep a look out for that.

Just a heads up for people looking to use this software. Unless you have an editing rig with at LEAST a 6GB video card, you won't be able to use it. You will get GPU memory errors regardless of what you try to export. Trying to use older versions is even more of a headache. This software is very poorly designed. When it works, it looks like it does a good job. But if you don't have a tailor made editing rig. You are going to NEED A STABILIZER. Because this software will undoubtedly not work for you.

Even my 6GB video card doesnt work with this software. It just keeps crashing or giving me a GPU memory error message.
