The book was horrendously racist and painted asian men in a bad light. Gave my trauma when I was 20 yrs old. We're not all sad depressing mfs, asian men i know are optimistic, hopeful, interesting and intelligent. Hopefully this will be better

@Quoc Anh Nguyen yeeee, tbf the opening line was incredibly off, and having Debby Ryan’s character say “maybe it isn’t your race :/“ tells me this is gonna be…not my kind of movie.i appreciate your sharing your experience with it, I never knew the graphic novel

Saw this tonight. If you liked the original Optic Nerve comics, you won't be disappointed. The movie follows the graphic novel beat for beat, with just a few exceptions that make it work better as a screen adaptation. The Alice-Ben relationship feels more authentic in the movie. Debby Ryan is great as Sasha and Justin Min is great as Ben Tanaka. I think Miko was miscast. That should've been Lucie Zhang. They don't really make smaller, indie movie like this anymore for theatrical release so enjoy it while you can.

They still make a lot of indie movies, it's just that their thetre run is limited because very few people actually go out to watch it.

I loved the graphic novel. It was raw in exploring Many weaves of Asian American issues. Kind of dark in its implications about the minority experience and relationships. This trailer seems lighter on the mood and acts a little cutesy with the characters. I'm looking forward to the film. I hope it's good

Finally a film with Asians as leads that doesn’t involve them back to the “motherland,” China, Singapore, or whatever, where they are just American. Having Asian leads doesn’t mean it always has to be about their culture. Are any of Liam Hemsworth’s movies about him going back to his roots in Australia? How about Arnold Schwarzenegger to Austria?

This film made me feel strong emotions and look at my own faults and relationships in a way that I wasn’t emotionally prepared before watching it. Specially when I dated a girl that looked just like Sasha, and I was treated in a similar way too. Shit this really made me feel shitty, but now that the film is over I took my lesson from it, I need to look in the mirror and grow up. And just let the broken hearts feeling go and enjoy life and forgive people and let them go, and fresh new beginnings. ❤

I left the movie feeling kind of disoriented. Ben's life at the end is like mine - alone...and it f**kin hurts. It left me feeling emptier than I already do especially with things falling apart around me socially - moreso to do with others and not myself, unlike Ben. I've never read the graphic novels, but I hope in time that Ben grows and that things get better for him. I loved the scenes with him and Alice and the meta elements of the film.

@gforce1754 Unfortunately, we are the 1%, the minority, unnoticed, unpopular, and misunderstood. As predicated by the amount of likes and responses on this thread, let alone the video. There is gaining traction on awareness of a multitude of complexes, personas, etc., but this type of life in postulation is, I would dare say, the least understood and at the same time the most special. At the very least, my insight concludes that it is the most lonely type of life.
